I finally tried out the GV-VMS 60 day free trial and it seems to work good in trial mode. The custom layout improvements in GV-VMS are very good compared to regular GV-NVR. Now you can have live views of all different sizes of cameras. They should have added this feature 10 years ago.

Night time vision - is this as good as it gets?
LittleScoobyMaster replied to xavier4or's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
That bandit is hilarious! That is the funniest thing I have seen all month. Thanks for that. I wonder if he will strike again? You should put up wanted signs in the local coffee shops. BTW, what are the model numbers of the Raytec illuminator and Hikvision camera? I'm currently trying to decide between Raytec and Axton. Have you compared the two by any chance? Before purchasing the Raytec, did you measure angles of the location to be monitored ahead of time using the spread areas as a guide, similar to the ones in this comparison starting on page 2? (Raytec has a similar guide somewhere). For example, if you had purchased the 10 degree angle illuminator to cover an area that should have a 120 or 130 degree spread, the results would be horrific, although, not quite as horrifying as that bandit. If you are currently at an 80 degree angle, it seems that the 120 degree angle change may help your situation. http://axtontech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014-AXTON-Product-Guide.pdf -
Looking for preferences for which IR illuminator brand to choose between Raytec or Axton. Any thoughts? Looking for an 850n that can do approx 70 to 100 feet range at 90 to 120 degrees with PoE capability. thanks

Axton 12ES38130 AT-12E-S 850nm IR Illuminator thoughts?
LittleScoobyMaster posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hey everyone. Just wondering if anyone has tried this IR illuminator (or any in the series) and what your thoughts about it might be. Is it fairly new IR tech or outdated, Axton quality, problems, stories you may have about them, etc.? This would be for a residential backyard to replace some older and much cheaper IR illuminators. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/909398-REG/axton_12es38130_at_12e_s_poe_megapixel.html -

I use Geovision GV-NVR for regular 2560x1600 ip cams. It will take more for 4k cams but if you have a small number of cameras it's not too substantial. For enterprise installations it will be very substantial. For my DVR I have one drive for each cam plus an extra hard drive for the OS and one more for the application. I -
Infrared Light filtered out by double pain window?
LittleScoobyMaster posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hey everyone. Realizing a non-optimal situation whereby an infrared illuminator such as the one listed below must be placed inside a house and pointed out through a double-pain window to the back yard versus being mounted outdoors, can anyone tell me approximately how much infrared light would be filtered out of the illuminator by the standard double pain window? I'm looking for a rough percentage based on an average clear double pain window. For instance, will 10% of the infrared be filtered out, or 20%, or 50%? thanks note: I'm not concerned about bounce back of the infrared light into the camera lens because the cameras are located in different windows in different rooms pointing towards the area outside that will be lit up by the infrared light. Vinyl Siding Hangers for IR illuminators
LittleScoobyMaster posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Just curious if anyone here has tried these hooks (or similar hooks) for hanging infrared illuminators instead of drilling holes in vinyl siding? I'm curious if these would allow the illuminators to move around too much when the wind blows, etc., or if anyone has tried these and decided against them for any reason. These hooks are rated for 5 to 6 lbs and the illuminators I'm considering are only 2 lbs, 3 at the most. http://www.amazon.com/Vinyl-Siding-Hooks-Hook-Shape/dp/B000X34WH6/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1434868201&sr=8-15&keywords=Vinyl+Siding+Hangers -
Infrared Light filtered out by double pain window?
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thanks I think of attenuation as a loss, so to clarify, are you saying that 90% of the infrared light would be filtered out of standard double pain clear glass so that only 10% of the infrared light will make it out of the window? Or do you mean that 90% of the light would make it out of the window and 10% of the total amount of infrared light would be lost? -
Hikvision 4K Smart Outdoor Dome Camera - DS-2CD4585F-I(Z)(H)
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well, I have been in dialogue over the last couple of days with Shenzhen DSD Technology Co., Ltd (http://www.dsdcctv.com) that markets itself on Alibaba: http://dsdsecurity.en.alibaba.com/product/60240658245-219231951/Hikvision_ip_camera_2015_new_released_cameras_DS_2CD4A85F_IZ_H_S_.html ; and have received the following quotes: (i) DS-2CD4585F-IZ with 2.8-12mm motorized varifocal lens, price is $565. (ii) DS-2CD4585F-I, 4K smart IR IP dome camera, support PoE, max 40M IR, built in 2.8-12mm varifocal lens, price is $485. (iii) DS-2CD2432F-IW, 3MP IR cube WIFI IP camera, with 4mm lens default, price is $125. Shipping is not included and they have yet to provide me with a quote for this (calculated depending on order size), however since they promise fast delivery (3-5 business days after payment) I would assume they would use one of the global express couriers which drives the price up (est. $50-75 perhaps plus VAT & duty). I had asked for a quote also for the 2432, not only because I am in the market for three of these too (for the kids' bedrooms) but also so I could better benchmark their pricing in general against other sellers. The cheapest I have found this camera from other sellers on Aliexpress with good feedback is $115 but then with free shipping, probably by airmail using EMS, Hong Kong or Singapore Post or similar (slower but more likely to go through customs without any extra import charges than DHL, FedEx, UPS etc). Thanks for the info NiToNi. Good to see some pricing info for these. I should set up alerts on ebay to notify me when they get them. I'd like to see how these would look on a 4k tv. I see that the Network Camera critic website has just announced they will continue to be doing camera reviews. If you end up getting any of these I bet they would let you put up a review on the site. I bet quite a few people will be waiting to see how these perform. -

Anyone had a chance to try this camera yet? I think they are demoing it at ISC next week. http://bkeesti.ee/upload/Hikvision/DS-2CD4A85F.pdf -
On Geo's website they show a method for updating existing GV-NVR dongles. Have you tried to update one yet? http://www.usavisionsys.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=550

Do you know if that is true only if you are using Geovision cameras, or is it also true for 3rd party cameras as well? (I purchased a GV-NVR to be able to use four 3rd party cameras (Hikvision) and I'm curious if it will work with GV-VMS without updating the dongle).

Tried it out for a few weeks, but had to go back to Multi-Cam. The (new) PC specs exceed the minimum requirements to rum VMS, but it seems very buggy. The camera layout and menus are much better. Switching between live view and playback is real easy. Problems encountered: Hangs up when making changes, adding cameras, motion detection tweaking, adding analytics, camera layout changes etc. Any of these changes would cause the PC to stop responding for several seconds, sometimes a minute or two, or require a PC reboot. It became too time consuming to make system changes. Playback with the time line is great, unfortunately is is also VERY laggy and would occasionally take very long to respond or quit responding all together. I loaded VMS on an older i7 PC and it pretty much responded the same way the new PC did. Maybe the next version will work better, but for now, I'll have to stay with Multi-Cam Did you have to update your GV-NVR USB dongle in order to run GV-VMS?

Looks like Geovision hasn't had any updates to their software since January. http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/4_2.asp Are people still buying new Geovision software licenses or are the majority of people switching to Milestone's Xprotect solution? It feels kinda stale with Geo lately unfortunately. I'm thinking of purchasing more Geo licenses because I want to add 2 more cameras to my system but since they don't seem to be updating the software anymore and have never resolved their UI issues over all these years, and the lack of recent updates, it kind of makes me want to consider a switch away from Geovision software and I've been using Geo for over 10 years. Anyone else who has compared the 2 platforms that has actually come back to Geo? If so, what were the reasons?

Hikvision 4K Smart Outdoor Dome Camera - DS-2CD4585F-I(Z)(H)

Holy Farts! I just received an e-mail from Hikvision and they said this camera, the DS-2CD4585F-I(Z)(H) will have an MSRP of $2,651.00 That seems high to me. Is that what you show as an MSRP for this one as well? They said the ETA for availability was in June. These two news items makes me cry like a little kid who just got kicked out of the candy store. Please tell me it ain't so! I think this is all NiToNi's fault... When will the $327 4K Hikvision that NiToNi promised be available? On Tue, May 5, 2015 at 6:11 PM, Michelle.Chiles wrote: All Hikvision products are sold via authorized distributors. If you can give me a better idea of the Security distributors that you shop with, I can help with pricing. Some of our authorized distributors are ADI, Anixter, CES, CSC, Tri-Ed. In the meantime MSRP is $2,651.00 and the product should be available in June. -
Hikvision 4K Smart Outdoor Dome Camera - DS-2CD4585F-I(Z)(H)
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Man, stop getting prices from some Asian websites, those are fake. I've got dome version of this camera (indoor) and it costs $1258 MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price), even if you get super discount It wont be even close to 327 USD. They put 1/1.7" sensor inside those 4k cameras, so the lens part probably cost more than 327USD. Maybe if you buy it using "smart-try" program, but you can get only get 2 cameras. You might be on to something here. I'm going by the pricing that NiToNi has provided in the previous Hikvision 4K camera thread and he has listed this : http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.0.0.4qnN2v&id=44906942673&ns=1#detail And looking at that url very closely, I don't think it is for the DS-2CD4585F-I(Z)(H) as the highest resolution listed in the link above is only 1920x1080. NiToNi, do you have a reliable link for the DS-2CD4585F-I(Z)(H)? The one you posted in the previous thread appears to be for a different camera unfortunately. -

Here is another example from a more-known shopping site: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.0.0.4qnN2v&id=44906942673&ns=1#detail Looks like the real deal to me. A little bit more expensive at CNY 2,400 but if anything prices should come under pressure once supply picks up and it becomes available on ebay, aliexpress, dealextreme etc. And at 3.5x more expensive than the equivalent 3MP, the price makes sense too: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/HIKVISION-DS-2CD2732F-IS-New-High-Quality-varifocal-lense-3MP-IR-dome-security-network-ip-cameras/32311601560.html Hey NiToNi. To confirm, are you saying that this exact 4K camera is very close to $327 in U.S. dollars? http://bkeesti.ee/upload/Hikvision/DS-2CD4585F.pdf I think it makes sense that it would be about 3.5x the price the 3MP's but I'm still not 100% clear on the price of the DS-2CD4585F. Hopefully the conversion is correct, and like you mentioned, this one is a little higher than $327 at $386, hopefully the translation is correct: https://www.google.com/#q=+%C2%A52400.00 Do you know about how long it will be before some more well known places like eBay will start receiving them? -
