How do I stop the IR flash off the wall?

On CSI perhaps. I notice that IPVM has tested out the 4K TV I have but they charge for subscriptions. http://ipvm.com/report/testing_4k_monitor Anyone have a subscription to this site? Curious what the verdict was. I know that the 30hz is an issue, but I still think the set is perfect for a surveillance monitor. -

Whatever you do, don't buy this camera: I bought one many years ago, and it was almost useless. It's the Kodak MC3. It's like an El Camino of the car world. Instead of being a car that is like a truck, the MC3 is an Mp3 player that is like a camera, but it fails miserably. -

I'm not that much of an enthusiast. My dollar limit for graphics cards is well below that, but I did have one of the very first 3dfx 3d accelerators back when they revolutionized the graphics industry. It was awesome to pop in a 3dfx card and eventually two in SLI to play Quake back in the day, although Doom was better. Another addiction. But yeah, that card (or 2) with 6 30" 4k monitors in a 3 over 3 config would be amazing for a flight sim (if a good one existed presently). drools It's too bad Nvidia was late to the multi-display scene though. Arrgh. Did I mention how much I hate bezels? Don't get me started on that lame industry standard. We should be at 36 to 40 inch monitor sizes nearing a standard, instead, we are at only 24 to 27 inches. Much older Eyefinity setup with much smaller displays: -

Don't get me started with that whole debacle, and yes, 24 fps has been a horrible industry standard since forever. Finally some movies like The Hobbit (48fps) are breaking the mold and showing us what we have been missing in the movie industry for all these years. I'm not talking about the movie itself, because I hated it, but I like the idea of the greater fps push they employed for the picture. I also notice the blur quite a bit on standard blurays on 60hz tv's, and yes, 30hz sucks as well on some of the new 4K sets and 4K monitors. Thankfully, the 30hz refresh issue is just a passing phase. I hope 24 fps becomes a passing phase eventually in the movie industry, but I'm not holding my breath for that one because it's been the industry standard since the dawn of time. Almost like how surveillance cameras, since forever, were limited to very low scan lines and low pixel counts. That's why these new 4K cameras are a nice change, as were the 1080 cams a few years back. http://www.blurbusters.com/overclock/120hz-pc-to-tv/ -

So I take it your not a professional? Because that isn't realistic. This is video surveillance not Hollywood. Even at 15fps or even 10 your not going to miss a thing. In the real world we work in it would not be feasible to support the storage for high frame rates just so it was smooth. We are about collecting evidence and if an assault or robbery happens it's not going to make a hill of beans weather its 30fps or 5 in a court of law. It's still going to show the same thing. I have seen hundreds of slip and falls in hospitals and it looks the same at 5fps as it does at 20. They slip and they hit the ground. I'm more of an enthusiast. I like pushing hardware to the limits to see what it can do. It's an addiction really. But I can tell you that when you are live viewing your cameras, under 20 fps looks bad compared to 30fps, not to mention those 6 fps 10mp cams, way too slow at 6 fps. Like just 2 minutes ago, a car just drove by the front window which I was watching through the TV next to my PC in another room while typing this. That camera at only 20 fps looks much worse than my other cameras at 30 fps. It's like Skippy Peanut Butter under 20 fps. Also, I can tell you that 4K tv's really do show more details than 1080p sets. Once you try it you really don't want to go back to a 1080 set. I remember the first time I saw the Winter Olympics in 1080(i), and I was very impressed with the upgrade from standard definition sets. The same thing happens again with 4K, albeit a little less pronounced, but still a huge improvement. -

And high frame rates too. Funny The Indian gaming commission only requires 20fps but he thinks he needs 24 to 30 I am a little obsessed. I like to live view all my cams and on the 4K tv, the cams at only 2035x1600x20fps don't natively fill the entire screen or look that great at only 20fps. When you have to stretch 2035 pixels to be 3840, it doesn't look that great. We can watch House of Cards in 4K but we can't even view our surveillance cameras in that resolution...until now. I think it's long overdue. It's about time that the surveillance industry starts to catch up with the hardware life-cycles of the IT industry. The new cameras will fill the screen at a 1:1 ratio for live viewing, which is very nice. I've always been disappointed with 1080p\1440p\1600p. I always notice the pixelation too much. -

New Acti 4K - 12MP surveillance cameras - 4K at 24FPS
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
So what would be the application for something like this? Purchased a 4K TV for my NVR recently that can do 3840x2160. Want to start testing 4k cameras with the same native resolutions. Mostly curious to see how they perform. 6fps is too slow for the current crop of 10mp+ cams. 24 to 30 fps is the sweet spot. -

Anyone know how much these 2 cameras are going to be when they are released (B414 and I43)? They can do the following resolutions: 15 fps at 4000 x 3000 24 fps at 4092 x 2160 30 fps at 2592 x 1944 http://www2.acti.com/corpweb/Tools/ProductSelector/ModelSpecDetail.aspx?__Model=B414|I43 It looks like Acti is getting set to release a whole slew of cameras that can finally do 4K at a decent framerate. The older batches were limited to only 7 fps at under 4092 x 2160. Finally some decent frame rates coming for the 4K models. 24 fps is not bad. They have some nice looking PTZ's and domes as well with the same resolutions \ frame rates. Guessing they'll be showing these off at next weeks IFSEC? Buellwinkle, do you have any samples of these new batches or are you planning to do any reviews for them soon by any chance? http://www2.acti.com/corpweb/Tools/ProductSelector/ModelSpecDetail.aspx?__Model=B414|I43 http://www2.acti.com/corpweb/Tools/ProductSelector/ModelSpecDetail.aspx?__Model=B914|B915|I913|I914 http://www2.acti.com/corpweb/Tools/ProductSelector/ModelSpecDetail.aspx?__Model=B510|B75|B812|E821|I74|I75 Let the 4K floodgates finally open! -

I wasn't thinking so much compression as just shipping fewer bits. Something fairly fuzzy... but with that little rectangle of high def. Hard...maybe brutal on the CPU... But CPU cycles keep getting cheaper - likewise cams - while bandwidh/streaming site charges seem to be holding steady. Geovision GV-NVR has a panorama feature where you can tie up to 4 cameras together, but as recent as version 8.5.8, the limitation was to allow only up to 1920x1080 as the largest stitch video. They need to upgrade that feature because I would like to stitch together two 2056x1600 streams (4112x1600) to be viewed on a 4K set, but presently it won't let me do that due to the panorama limitation. This whole thing reminds me of this Frankenstein camera, the Arecont AV12186DN. (it's 4 camera's in 1 dome stitched together): http://www.arecontvision.com/product/SurroundVideo+Series/AV12186DN#KeyFeatures This camera is a master of stitchery, indeed. Has anyone here tried this Frankenstein monster camera? New Acti 4K - 12MP surveillance cameras - 4K at 24FPS

I'll let you know when it's out. I checked with Acti today and they peed on my cornflakes. They told me that the Acti 4K's in the beginning of this thread won't be out until Dec or so. So, Axis is going to beat them to the punch because the Axis one is due out in the next 30 to 90 days. Like with Intel and other CPU \ GPU manufacturers, do companies ever send you early samples to review? Or do you have to wait until the release date? I have had no problem with that video either. I am watching it on a Seiki 39" 4K TV and it looks amazing. I can't wait to get my hands on one of the new 24-30 fps 4K cameras. I guess it's a good time to upgrade NVR's and PC's as we wait for the cameras to arrive very soon. Is Axis going to get the first one out, or has someone already released one already? (Besides like Avigilon who probably has one already...maybe?). I keep reading about the poor low lighting issue as well. Is it really that bad? I mean, if I have a really good external IR illuminator covering a small area, say, 40 x 40 feet near the house and point one of the new 4K cams at it, is it going to be super dark? I would like to see some early examples of this poor lighting everyone is talking about. Even the Acti rep told me that as well. -

Yeah, I've seen that video like a thousand times quietly anticipating a review of it when it comes out. (buellwinkle?) "AXIS P1428-E Network Camera with 4K resolution is planned to be available in Q3 2014 through Axis’ distribution channels at a suggested retail price of $999." I thought there was gonna be at least one nice 4K camera set to release with next week's IFSEC conference. So, at least one decent 24 - 30 fps 4K camera *might* be out next week. Could even be that one as Q3 officially starts in 3 weeks. Do we know if the P1428-E is due out early, mid, or late Q3? The video is great though. It looks fantastic on the insanely priced $389 Seiki 39" 4K TV. Although it would look better on a larger 60hz set. (Seiki can only do 30hz at 4K). You and your computer are old update computer Double True. But also, Youtube is sometimes horrible for streaming big content, and sometimes even little content. (they rotate their servers around like a Tilt-a-Whirl on K-Y jelly sometimes). You never know what your gonna get. You want to have a somewhat decent system for 4K video though. 4K doesn't do puny-ass! Seriously though, you could try to make sure that the whole video downloads, or try to d/l some other entire 4k videos, and once you have them saved locally, you might be able to view them. You could start out watching them in a smaller rez and bump up to a rez just under one that chokes the system. Hopefully your not trying to view them on a Commodore VIC-20, Apple ][Plus, or Apple //e. If so, there will be no hope. I can't wait until these cameras are finally on the market. I'm trying to get pricing and availability to see if Acti undercuts Axis or not. $999 for one 4K cam (Axis) is a little steep. I'm hoping Acti enters the game with lower prices, or any other companies for that matter. I can't seem to find a release date yet, and Acti hasn't responded to my inquiries yet. Those turkey-asses! UK9VU1aJvTI You know, on second thought, you might be able to watch the Axis video with the Commodore 64 which is recommended by Jim Butterfield. In fact, I just ordered a Jim Butterfield red shirt and white suit but it wasn't available through Amazon Prime so I have to wait a while to get it. xmnlkLc1Foc -

I know. Pretty amazing. I wonder if anyone can find the release dates and prices. But this is ACTI so I don't have my hopes up. From my experience ACTI has been flakey and sub par image quality. Bummer to hear that. I didn't know they were unreliable like that. They just added 2 more 4K bullets to the lineup today. Now they have 4 bullets listed that can do 4092 x 2160 at 24fps: http://www2.acti.com/corpweb/Tools/ProductSelector/ModelSpecDetail.aspx?__Model=B414|B422|E420|I43 Has Bosch or Axis released pricing and availability on their comparable offerings? Are Bosch and Axis more reliable than ACTI from your experience? -
GoPro Hero 4 as a 4K surveillance camera
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The GoPro that can do 4K at 30 fps is the new GoPro Hero 4, it is scheduled to be released in the next week or two. I guess it depends on the pricing of these new Acti cameras, or the ones you have mentioned above. If the prices on them are low, I could just use one of them. The new Acti cameras can do 4K at 24 fps which is very close to the GoPro Hero 4 which does 4K at 30 fps. I hope we can get pricing and availability info on these new Acti cameras: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=41264 As for the IPO, it sounds like they would be a good company to invest in, but I currently don't have any of their stock. Good tip though. -

GoPro Hero 4 as a 4K surveillance camera
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well, I have a 4K TV hooked up to my NVR and I would like to view a native 4K stream from a surveillance camera on the set @ 30 fps from one of my surveillance cameras. Mainly it's because I think 1080p is so outdated that it borders on the ridiculous. We should have been at 4K years ago. It's long overdue tech and I want it now. I don't want to wait any longer for it. Now that 39" 4K TV's are available for under $400, the cameras and other items need to start becoming just as affordable as well. It's a natural progression. -

Which 10mp ir dome for $300 can do 30 fps @ near 4K rez? I thought the Acti E77 could only do 6 fps at 10mp, or is there another dome out that can currently hit 30 fps @ 10MP \ 4K for $300? The Hero4 can do 3840x2160 @ 30 fps, isn't that also known as 10MP+? I know the terms are kind of mixed up a bunch and they sometimes crossover and 4K marketing is atrocious. (10MP, UHD, 4K, etc.) The Hero 4 is claimed to do 4K, even though 4K is really 4096x2160 instead of 3840x2160, but I wasn't aware of any $300 dome that could do 3840x2160 at 30 fps in color \ bw. If there is one out, that would be great. That is what I am presently in the market for. http://dgise.com/post/62262921573/gopro-hero-4-specs-and-release-date-are-disclosed -
Anyone running Geovision on a 4k display yet, such as one of the models from Seiki? I know they have a $499 39 inch 4k tv at Amazon that is pretty popular. Just curious what Geovision would do on a screen like that because last time I installed Geovision GV-NVR, it asked me the resolution so it could set up a template for display and I thought the highest was only 1080p, so is GV-NVR able to use the full 3820x2160 resolution, or does it only use 1920x1080 pixels and display in a little corner or something? http://gizmodo.com/5994765/seiki-50+inch-4k-tv-eyes+on-how-the-hell-is-a-tv-this-beautiful-so-cheap

Widget Widget Widgets! I have a similar issue with Windows 7 and Geovision. After selecting the widgets to 'always be on top', many times Geovision will push them behind so I can't see them. If I click on the widgets, then maximize Geovision, the widgets will stay on top for a few hours, but over time, eventually the widgets go behind the Geovision application. Very annoying. You might try editing the gadget directly by fiddling with the gadget code if you are bored: http://digitalpbk.com/windows-gadgets/how-make-windows-gadget-windows-7

Thanks GB, I hadn't used the Digital Matrix feature yet and it works great on this 4K display to view just the camera feeds just as you have described. I did notice that when the Digital Matrix is active, and I am using it in conjunction with the camera pop-up feature, that it causes a quick 1 second black screen to be seen just before it switches to a pop-up viewed camera, and then once again when it goes from pop-up mode to regular panel mode, but this is a very minor annoyance and may be less noticeable when I upgrade my NVR server. Also, I am 1 Geovision software release away from the current release. Also, the primary UI display is only a 1080p display and the secondary is the 4K display. I'm going to be replacing the 1080p with another 4K display to see if that helps as well, perhaps if both displays are the same resolution it might help, but also, 2 4K displays may cause more delay due to the extra pixels being processed. Should make a nice experiment. It's nice being able to see 4 1080p cameras on one display though and being able to view all the pixel information. I like it. And it should be perfect for when I add a 4K camera later this year. This black screen item occurs on a much older NVR based off of an Intel Q6600 cpu set-up. (6 year old quad core cpu), and it seems to be speed related whereby on a current system, the 1 second black screen might be closer to a split second, or like 1/10th of a second or less maybe. I wonder if a much newer system would make that little black screen flash from the Digital Matrix to be less pronounced? Have you noticed the black flash I am referring to by any chance? Just curious. I also notice more fps lag when the digital matrix is active but that is to be expected on this older NVR. Otherwise though, this Seiki is pretty nice for viewing 4K content from the camera feeds and the Digital Matrix is the perfect fit. This weekend, Amazon has them on sale for under $400 I notice. The 30hz @ 4K is the only sucky thing but it will most likely be a while before a 39" 4K set with 60hz comes anywhere near this price point.

Tips for mounting cameras behind glass?
LittleScoobyMaster replied to yakky's topic in Security Cameras
PIR's are great. but having a a large flood light turn on when a PIR detects something, not so great all the time under all circumstances. In some neighborhoods, the kids love, did it say love? Yep, love lights that turn on bright when you walk by them. They love them so much, they actually go on your property more to set them off, and see if they can get the homeowner annoyed enough to come out and chase them, etc. Seen it happen in many places. Also, sometimes, having a light come on in certain neighborhoods can really annoy other neighbors. It also is not great for light pollution. http://www.darksky.org/ It's extremely tacky under certain circumstances. but yeah, it does scare some people away, but attracts others. The miscreants, the dreads, the others. -

6 FPS limit on new Acti cameras at high resolution
LittleScoobyMaster posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Acti has released a whole line of new cameras recently, (like the E77), and they all have a frame cap at 6 frames per second across all of the high resolutions. I'm curious what component causes this cap? Curious if this is related to the 6mb bandwidth cap or not. I swear they must have released at least 5 to 10 cameras with these exact same frame caps on these resolutions. 6 fps at 3648 x 2736 6 fps at 3648 x 2160 6 fps at 2592 x 1944 6 fps at 2048 x 1536 http://www.acti.com/product/detail/Dome_Camera/E77
