2 1080P IR Bullets at Costco for 349
LittleScoobyMaster replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The IR-leds are clearly under software control on these cameras (unlike on some Dahuas), so I'm fairly certain that it would be a minor issue for Hikvision to add a separate IR on/off-option. It is a pity they haven't done so, but perhaps it is possible to ask them to? Anyone have some good contact info? I called them tonight but the tech support person suggested switching to day mode to turn off IR, but of course, that is not a viable solution. The person on the phone suggested sending an email to techsupport@hikvisionusa.com to inquire about any possible firmware updates, so that is what I have done. I don't know if that e-mail will be forwarded to the other countries support or not. Maybe if enough people e-mail them, they might add the feature. It's kind of surprising they left it out. I'm also surprised more people on this forum aren't wondering about this because it is so much nicer to have separate ir illuminators for cameras. For the people who are using the built in IR, aren't you getting a bunch of false events from insects flying around the cameras? -
2 1080P IR Bullets at Costco for 349
LittleScoobyMaster replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just received my Swann HD-820CAM set today. Just want to confirm this. There is no way to turn off the IR leds without switching to day mode? If I use my own IR illuminators, I would think I would want to be able to use night mode with my external IR. This seems like a big limitation for these cameras if this is correct. Will the HIK firmware upgrade allow us to turn off the IR leds without switching to day mode? -
Yearly Check-In. Are thermal surveillance cameras cheap yet?
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in Security Cameras
What is affordable price point for you ? I think for a thermal imaging surveillance camera I would probably hope to pay between $300 and $667 or so. -
I bought SONY Effio CCD 700TVL and I need help

Just wondering how your IR-200-940 is holding out? Still like it? Any issues with it? -
Thanks. Those are the same measurements I had for regular CIF's and regular VGA (the spec itself unrelated to Geo). That sounds like a decent upgrade in resolution then. Doubling of horizontal and vertical. I haven't used GV-EYE yet. Should I be using that instead of I-View? Last time I looked into GV-Eye I don't remember what it's strong point was, but if it has 1280x960 on an iPhone, that sounds very good. I thought there was a reason I never installed it but now I can't remember what that reason was. Is GV-Eye limited to GV-IP camera's only or something? If so, that would be the reason I didn't use it.

Panasonic MOS sensor cameras and 940nm illuminators?
LittleScoobyMaster replied to ddbear's topic in Security Cameras
I have this exact same camera and was wondering the exact same thing about using it with a 940nm instead of an 850nm. It does very well with 850nm but I am in the market for a couple more ir illuminators and I really want the stealthier version. Did you end up just testing it or did you go with an 850 instead of the 940? ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/business/security/spec_sheets/WV-SC385.pdf I don't see on the spec sheet how we can know without doing our own testing. Anyone know? If not, may just order both to test. This seems to be the only ir info on the sheet: Color: 0.5 lx, B/W: 0.06 lx at F1.6 (Shutter: 1/30 s, AGC: High), Color: 0.031 lx, B/W: 0.004 lx at F1.6 (Shutter: 16/30 s, AGC: High) -
I'm curious about this as well, but more so, when will Geovision release an update for higher resolutions on our devices? I mean, tablets are everywhere these days. I'd like to be able to get something like the iPad mini or a Galaxy tab to be able to view my Geovision system. Hopefully an update to this resolution issue is in the works. Anyone know for certain?

I have an older Geovision GV600 v3. It can only be used with Geovision 7.x. Anyone know the technical reasons why these cards and others can't run 8.x and beyond?
-
Anyone know when it will be out and what it will contain? It's going on 4 months now since the last update (8.5.4.0). Anyone have a hint or preview?

Haven't tried yet but can Geovision systems at version 7.x work with Geovision 8.x in the Geovision Center?

We already have that. It was included in a previous release. -
GeoVision 8.5.5.0 is Released! - Holy Mama!
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in Geovision
I ran into a similar problem. I have a GV-600 v3. It won't run on Windows 7 either. I wish Geovision would support their older hardware revisions of cards longer than they do. Maybe some day... -
IP cams via smart TV
LittleScoobyMaster replied to aalgelis's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I was thinking this same thing when I saw some of the newer SmartTV's recently. Anyone able to get GV-NVR DMMultiview to work on any of these items? (SmartTV's or the $99 web devices) -
Its the chipset/CPU. Has to be a Intel HD Graphics GPU/IGP(Integrated Graphics Processor- inside LGA1155 CPU). LGA1155 motherboard must have on-board video output.(some boards do not have video ports- these won't work because the IGP will be disabled) Also be aware that not all Sandy Bridge CPUs have integrated GPU- example the i5-2550k cpu does not- so it would not be useful for GPU Decoding feature. I would be interested to see a side by side as well. I will be putting an analog dvr together in the next week or so, if I get some time before installing GV800B card I will set it up as NVR and do some testing. I will measure CPU first while using Sandy Bridge IGP(Celeron G530), then swap in a HD6450 and disable the Intel IGP. That would be great. Can't wait to see the results. I read the part about the integrated GPU requirment as well, and that boggles me. Why limit the feature to an onboard integrated GPU when something like the latest Nvidia\AMD card would do so much better?
-
Glad I'm not the only one who was confused by that. My current GV-NVR server is an older Intel Q6600 quad core based system with an AMD HD 3800 series video card running Win7. I thought the decent GPU's alone could handle CUDA\OpenCL without running a newer chipset but I really don't recall. I just read that the HD3800 doesn't support OpenCL. I don't expect Geo to support the older chipsets\GPU's but I was curious if they would or not. Guess it's time to upgrade that old server. I'm still unclear though, does the chipset really matter? Or is it just the GPU? If only the GPU mattered, you'd think they would maybe support a few older chipsets, in which case I could just throw one of my Nvidia GTX570's into the Q6600 system and be ready to use GPU decoding. But they make it sound like you need the right combo of chipset and GPU, not just a certain GPU. (memory helps too - 16G I think it was - recc, not sure what the minimum is). My current chipset is the Intel X38. The motherboard was made in the first part of 2008, so its a good 4 years old. So, you think the chances of Geo supporting the X38 is pretty slim? What would the odds be of them supporting it? I'm also curious if anyone on this forum, with the proper spec'd server (Sandy\Ivy bridge, decent GPU, lots of memory) has done a side by side comparison of GV-NVR with GPU decoding off and on. What kind of CPU savings were experienced? My current GV-NVR runs at about 40-50% CPU on all 4 cores with Live view of 3 cams on the 4x4 panel display. If I make the panels smaller, the CPU goes down by half. It goes up substantially more than 50% when a client connects. I haven't turned on OnDemand yet either. That should help a bit. One thing is certain. These Megapixel IP camera's in Live View can eat your CPU for breakfast, and GPU decoding is going to be a neccessity. To quote Arnold: 8Tkkpfhd07s

HomePlug Powerline technology
LittleScoobyMaster replied to 300winmag's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Happen to remember the brand? I currently use NetGear powerline devices. They help for some camera runs where hardwiring is impossible. http://www.netgear.com/home/products/powerline-and-coax/ Would be nice to have an all in 1 unit with the PoE built in. -
Looks like they added IvyBridge support in 8.5.5.0. Wondering if they will add older support for some of the X## series of chipsets.

I hear that. Geo and multimonitors still present a challenge after all these years. You should be able to just slide the app around from monitor to monitor. Instead you have to run that little app (DMPos.exe) to move Geo from one monitor to the other. I've never liked how Geo is locked into their screen layouts with no customization either. I keep wondering when Geo will improve some things. I should write to them. I've read a few reviews of Exacqvision Start and it seems impressive. Has there been any in depth reviews comparing it to Geovision?

Phasing out GeoVision? Great Dastardly Dongles! What are you phasing into if I can ask? I do have a DMMultiview connection question as well. Does anyone know what .ini commands are available to add to both multiviewhostinfo.ini and multiviewcustomize.ini? For instance, when I connect to DMMultiview, I'd like it to remember that I want Resolution displayed on each panel (presently I have to right click on each panel and select it manually per Multiview seesion and that's a pain in the elbow). I'm guessing the multiviewcustomize.ini might have a way to make resolution be listed for all cams, and other nice items.

Geovision GV-NVR and Panasonic WV-SC385
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
How do you turn on GPU decoding in this version? Or is it on by default? I couldn't find the setting for it. Rec specs say it performs best with 8 gigs of mem on a 64 bit system. I only have 4 Gigs. Will it still work? (I would only be using 4 cameras total). -
Hey, if you have a surveillance camera that is focusing on a light, say something like a street lamp for days and days, months and months, will it eventually wreck the camera, or wreck any part of the camera in any way? Also, can a green lazer shined on a surveillance camera wreck it? Especially the high powered green lazers? http://www.laserglow.com/GAR?gclid=CJOHyJ7ZnK8CFQHNnAodvE26aw

Wish I had only 1 reason to be puzzled by GeoVision software. Multiview is a shabby piece of code. They really need to upgrade it some day. I tested out GV-NVR 8.5.4.0 Multiview and was amazed to see they still don't have multi-monitor support (web version at least). Maybe some day.

Panasonic WV-sc385 safe operating temperature
LittleScoobyMaster replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
How about a safe operating temp for any cctv cams facing the south sun? I purchased the smoked dome for this camera. Hope it will help with the heat issue a little. I have the option of raising this camera up out of the sun for parts of the day, don't know if I should bother or not though.
