    DVR HELP - noob

I may have missed something, but what is the make and model of the DVR. I ran into this once, when the old DVR had software that wasn't compatible with the newer windows. Dennis
  2. Router: Netgear/Frontier 7550 Have done hundreds of port forwarding dvr's to internet, but must be missing something here. Figured that Frontier must be blocking 80, so changed it to 81. Still can not see the WAN address with "canyouseeme" or remotely at another location. Anyone who is acquainted with Frontier and this router have some help for me on this? What am I missing?. Update: Client contacted Frontier and they sent out a tech. He couldn't figure it out either, He called his supervisor and he couldn't access their router. Decided to try a static address and start over. They're supposed to get back with me after the static address is setup. The router is only a few weeks old, but maybe it's got a problem.
  3. A Frontier technical manager came to the site and after about 2 hours or so, we got the DVR to be accessible from the outside world. Evidently due to security issues with Frontier Business Class, you can not use the address that you see when you use "whatismyip". That is the right address for the router, but you are not allowed to access it. They added another "layer" within the router, a different address that was a WAN address, both for the "gateway" and "ip address". The DVR saw the LAN gateway and IP, but that is not useable and you have to use the WAN address within the DVR and router given to you by Frontier. They then entered a range of DNS addresses of 40 to 41. Too complicated to explain it all here, but now it works. So,,,,,be aware that if you are having a problem with Frontier Business Class, contact Frontier to have an internet tech come directly to your site. That is supposed to be a "pay" service, but in my case the tech probably felt sorry for me, turned out to be a great guy and he got it working by taking instructions over the phone with his superior. Even with those instructions,it didn't work until the tech at our site programmed the router with the range of DNS of 40 to 41, instead of just one, of which he tried 40 only and it didn't work.

    Please Healp Zmodo

The SFN6 is different than your model. Here's is what I found on the website regarding your model DVR. You may already have this info: hxxp://kb.zmodo.com/index.php?sid=117806&lang=en&action=artikel&cat=2&id=1&artlang=en Replace the "xx" in the "hxxp", with "tt". If you still can't get it to work, maybe I can find some extra help. The "format of the USB might be the problem". Dennis
  5. I have no clue at this point. If I had the unit in my shop, maybe then I could figure out something. The thing is, that if it's very old, it wouldn't be worth paying somebody to check it out. Why do you have it rebooting everyday?. Don't even know why I'm suggesting this, but stop the rebooting, reformat and try again.
  6. OK, 2nd choice. Have you reformatted the hard-drive lately? Won't get into the why's and wherefore's, but that should be done from time to time. A few weeks ago, our local police department was complaining of locking up, no record at times, etc. Told him to reformat he HD and see what happens. FIXED!!!! If that doesn't cure your issue, we'll have to move to #3.

    Voltage Drop Check.

Nothing to it as long as long as you have the camera that you are going to use connected to the line. Monitor the supply voltage at the DVR and then the voltage at the camera. Subtract them and you have your voltage drop. Current wise, connect a DVM in the current mode and connect it in series with one of the power lines, either at the DVR or camera. If the camera is an IR unit, then the tests should be made when in the "dark" mode. If you make the test in the daytime, cover the camera lens end with something that simulates "no daylight" and maximum dark.
  8. Sounds like it could be a power supply issue.
  9. Did you enter the Username as "Admin"? Capital "A" in Admin and leave the password blank?

    CCTV mark up outrageous

Crazy markup on what and what's the point? Are you trying to sell something? I don't have "crazy markups" on what I sell and don't need prices, as I'm a CCTV dealer.
  11. Too many variables for me to answer that.
  12. That is also a good place. Like I say. It's all in what you are wanting to accomplish. Camera placement can be a very personal thing. At times legal issues restrict what you would "like" to do. Just had that with one of my clients.
  13. On the rear camera's, I would suggest 6mm (or vari-focal of 4 to 9 or 2.8 to 12 and adjust as suitable). You don't need a lot of overlap and you will get "closer views" as the Field of View is reduced. As far as the front camera goes, (in my opinion) you don't want too much of a downward angle to the top of peope's heads. Do you want the facial shot as people are coming up the stairs? Then what you have is ok. Or move it closer to over the door. If you are wanting to see who is at the door when the door bell rings or they knock, then place a camera in the corner to the right.
  14. Just a suggestion and an opinion and you know what they say about opinions!

    Newbie camera installation questions.

On DVR's that have "mouse" contol, just run a USB extension cable to the area where the TV is. Also, run a video cable from the rear of the DVR to the Video (Yellow) jack on the TV for DVR monitoring. When you want to run the DVR remotely in this fashion, just select the proper video input on your TV remote control. Easy. Do it all the time on my CCTV installs.
  16. I use both Remee and Sewell with no issue yet. On overhead installs (Siamese with messenger) had to use Remee as I couldn't find any other source that I didn't need to take out a mortgage loan to purchase.

    Horizontal Lines Across some Monitors

Maybe a "ground loop" issue. Very easy to eliminate that as your issue for about $20.00 or so.
  18. Found the exact one with Graybar and another type on eBay (ALL TEXAS SALES).
  19. Anchoring RG59/18-2 with messenger recomended method(s) For running cables overhead, structure to pole to pole to structure. What do you recommend as the best way to anchor the above cctv cable at the ends (poles, structures, etc.)? Also, source of the correct anchors? Dennis
  20. Thanks so much. You are a great help. I have searched everywhere that I could think of to find these things. I will only need about a dozen or so of the Omni Hooks and Drop Wire Clamps. Do you know of a supplier of which I could order only that many instead of a whole box of a 100 and 125? Dennis
  21. You're welcome Dennis
  22. What version of windows are you using? I do know that some of the older players/codecs won't play on Windows 7. Fact of the matter is, I monitor a dvr that I can view on XP and Vista, but it won't work on Windows 7 at all. Dennis
  23. Are the DVR's in the right video format mode, ie; PAL, NTSC for your location? Generally, I believe, that this dvr is formatted for the location sold and am not sure if you "reset" it, it changes or not. Need more info. Dennis
  24. Looks like a $15 to $25 camera. The video is typical of a CMOS unit with no electronics compensation at all. Dennis
  25. What browser and program are you trying to install? Dennis
