I wasn't going to add what I'm about to now, but I find it amusing. That's in regard to crosstalk, etc. when using 4 pairs of networking cable. In the late 60's I was a technology instructor instructing in the modulation and demodulation of 600 communications over a single pair of wires. And that was duplex. Now, they don't use "wires" but fiber. Each one not interfering with each other and now almost 50 years later, networking has all the issues of crosstalk, interference and you name it. 20 years or more ago, when my son was working for me in the business, we were networking new construction with internet, Cable TV, TV antenna, Satellite, Telephone, Audio (both wired and fiber), Video and Centralized remote control all intermixed. All in the same networking enclosure with no interference between them. It's like we've gone backwards. Here's a picture of one our smaller installs. Behind the wall of this enclosure was a rack with the major equipment components.

I'm confused to why he was confused. Your explanation was plain enough for me. Of course I only have 20 years in networking and surveillance experience. May not be enough.

On page 33, make sure that the schedule area is all "blue" to motion record 24hrs. Click "Apply" and "OK". Not relative this, but would recommend setting for Prev and Post to at least 5 seconds and Hard Disk Overwrite checked. Of course, I'm taking for granted that this DVR has a hard-drive installed!

I edited my post just before your reply. Sorry, I was in a hurry with my post as my supper was ready and setting beside my computer. After I left the forum, I cussed at myself and got back on, but too late. My initial response was in regard to a system that I was called to service for an issue, that had Cat6 between 2 different buildings and the cables were not terminated to standard, but the dang system seemed to work just fine in that regard. Wasn't relative to the problem that they called me for.

Black and white/color issues
aibudo replied to kencat7072's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Do you know if the camera's are UTC (up the cable) capable? Or, do you have a model number on the camera's? -
Do you have a pdf users manual that we could look at?
-
I take for granted that you changed the password from the original default. The default on most of them was "admin" "admin" and "admin" and "0000". There is a "jump" on the main board for reset, but I forget what it is.
-
If I was you, I would replace the cable with one of commercial quality.
-
There are two types of cables that are similar to your description. One is the mini cable that is sometimes supplied with CCTV kits and then there is the commercial cable of full size RG59/18-2. If it's the power wires that are cut, splicing them really well, should work for you ok.

You didn't say what camera's you had. They don't have the little joystick on the cable do they? And, what model DVR do you have? -
Recommendations for my outside storage area 220' wide x 80'
aibudo replied to rpinkc's topic in System Design
It's going to be hard to find recommendations on systems online because of all of the variables. I always go to a site and setup some sample camera's for each scenario and allow the client to visually see the results. The only thing I would say about the max distance of 80' or so, would be a 25mm lens. Lens very by manufacturer, but they would probably give you an apx horizontal view width of 14' and 10' vertical at that distance, but would narrow proportionately at closer distance's. Of course detail received would be dependent upon the resolution of the camera utilized also. I have clients who have used 25mm lens at 200' in a generic analog camera of 600tvl and had no issues at all in recognizing the individual and vehicle, if there is enough light at night. Daytime wasn't a problem at all, unless you wish to blowup snapshots. If you wish to "blow up" snapshots at all from videos at that distance, I would recommend an HD system and camera's. Most tech's on this forum would advise against any analog system and only utilize HD, but I have clients who have "cheapy" cheap systems and they have gotten along just fine with close up views with them. Like I say, it's tough giving recommendations without providing a site survey working with specifics. As far as durability, most "outdoor" cameras are IP66, but if you wish more, then look at IP67. -
Is it stilll functioning or do i need to delete storage?

I'll have to admit, I am confused about the "red line going to the camera's". I took that to mean that in the live view or playback view, there was a line pointing to the camera icons. Can you clarify where or what the red line is? Are you able to watch the camera's in live view ok or are they just black then? What did you see when playing back the recording that you did get? -

I would guess that it hasn't been recording for some time. Was the hard-drive originally set to over-write? -
I still give estimates/bids on sites that I have gone to, but,,,,, Stopped giving actual DVR/Camera/Power Supplies/etc. makes and models on the bid. I just give a one or two line generic description and cost after acquiring the requirements of the client. What I found was happening in the beginning was that the client would use me to put together a "parts list" and "recommended equipment locations and procedures", then use that to purchase and install the equipment themselves. That was a long while ago, but the first two "bids", I didn't get. Went back later and just happened to catch them doing what I explained above. I'm sure that I probably wasn't the only "sap" that they contacted too, so that they didn't make any mistakes. Oh, something else. I have had a client or clients ask why I didn't itemize my bids. I tell them that the technology and equipment is changing so fast, that equipment that I might place on the bid might be discontinued by the time they approve the install. If that happens, I will then sub the newer equipment at the same cost if possible. If not, I will contact them with an amended bid.

Not that you may be interested but I had a client who was using the cheap cables that came with their system and one of them went to crap. The DC part was good and they didn't want to have to put ends on the better RG59 cable. So, I cut a piece of RG59 cable, put the ends on it and they just ran it beside the original cable and used it for the video. Fixed their issue. I'm not trying to sell you a cable, but you can purchase premade RG59 cables at several sources. Here is a link to what I'm talking about. https://www.cablewholesale.com/products/coaxial-cable/rg59-bnc.php

Tomcctv, that camera is a dual power camera. Here is the link that I posted above: http://www.clintonelectronics.com/store/CE-VF775IR.html

Sounds like that your power supply isn't regulated very well. The specs on that camera say that for 12VDCV, it pulls 750ma. A 2A regulated supply should work well for each camera or an 8A supply for all 4. You could try a 5A supply for all 4, but it better be regulated well. http://www.clintonelectronics.com/store/CE-VF775IR.html

Doubt that DVR 960H is the model number. Night Owl is no doubt the make. The model should be on the box that you purchased it in. Or on your receipt of purchase. Even with that we may not be able to help if you changed the default password and forgot what it is.
-
That is absolutely not enough. That is only 300ma per camera. When the IR's turn on (night time) the current will be at it's maximum and worse case. I wouldn't do less than 5A for 8 camera's. Don't know what the length of your camera runs are either, but long runs can cause issues also. I would start with larger power supplies or 2 more small one's like you have and only 4 camera's on each one.

Do you have 2 "home" connections in your phone? ie; network (LAN) address when home and (WAN) address when away? I have mine named "Home LAN" and "Home WAN" Examples: (IP addresses not your actual addresses) 192.168.1.10 (accessing your system via WiFi when home 123.456.78.90 (accessing your system on 3G/4G when away) Sometimes when using a WiFi hotspot, in a remote location, a remote connection isn't possible. Won't get into the technical's on that. Also, what are your required ports? Did you forward them in your router.

What is the current capacity of the power supply? With 16 camera's I would use a 20amp supply.

Hit a wall trying to get my DVR online.
aibudo replied to Eddrruiz's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I tried accessing your system using the address you posted using Internet Explorer and got right in to your login page and everything seems to be ok. By the way, I would delete your post with your WAN address!
