Looks like you can no longer download the 8.1 update. Does anybody know why?

I cannot connect for the life of me to webcam from outside the LAN. I had it working at one time but I can't get it to work again. I have the 1480 card and updated to 8.1 geovision software. I have a Belken Pre-N hub router and have tried port fowarding 80, 4550, 5550, 6550 and even tried the UPnP option. I have tried changing 80 to 81 but nothing sees the computer. Tried canuseeme.org port checking program and get access denied. The new 8.1 multiview connection icon say host is under protected. Don't know what it means. I have also put the computer outside the DMZ zone and still cannot connect. I wish I knew how I did it the first time but this time something seriously interfering. I disable windows firewall also. I give up!! Anyone know what to do now? I even went as far as to redo the computer just in case. I originally had it the way rory suggested by disabling lots of services and it did run great. Never a problem except for logging on webcam outside my network. I'm about to buy a new hub/router incase the dam thing isn't opening up the ports. Thanks for any suggestions.

Problem connecting to Webcam from outside of firewall
mariner replied to mariner's topic in Geovision
Yes I did try using Dynamic DNS name service from geovision which is how I figured out the correct IP address that the Internet was seeing but it kept taking me to the hub/router configuration screen inside the firewall. So I tried the IP address outside the firewall and the webcam fired right up. Once I used IE to log on, the DMMultiview made that IP the default IP number. Since I created a DNS name I will try that method but that required a util program to create and I think, required to run in the background. Got more to learn. Thank's for the advice. -
Problem connecting to Webcam from outside of firewall
mariner replied to mariner's topic in Geovision
The problem was I was using the ip address assigned by the router to the dvr which works inside the firewall but once outside the firewall the ip is not seen so I got lucky and tried the ip address of the WAN which was seen by the internet and then it would route me back to the DVR computer. It worked. I have to use IE to change the default IP address in DMMultiview v8100. -
Are 75 ohm terminators necessary for unused video inputs on Geovison 16 camera cards.

Are the Gevision 8 channel 30 fps cards, 30fps per channel?
mariner replied to personalt's topic in Geovision
You are correct, the FPS is the total for all channels available. For example a 30fps 4 Port card will allow you to record at 7.5fps per camera if you used all four ports and at the lowest resolution of 320x240. Any higher resolution will produce even slower FPS. If you used only one camera you could get 30 fps at the lowest resolution. I believe when you set the FPS per camera it is still assumed to be at 320x240. -
I am considering the Extreme WZ20 as my next camera purchase based on it specs and a post stating it almost blows the EX82 away at half the price. I would love the EX82 but it cost way too much. Has anyone used or demo'd the WZ20? I would love some feedback regarding picture quality expecially at night. Also pictures posted would be of great help. Thanks for your posts.

Thanks guys for the posts, I was hoping Extreme's cameras would be the cream of the crop because they are priced that way. Their IR illuminators are priced even higher. The specs stated the WZ20 camera has IR corrected lens but if it has focus shift then what did they correct? Does anyone know of a better choice for a Outdoor Day/Night IR bullet or dome with IR corrected lens 6mm or above or varifocal. This is for my house and I can't convince the wife to allow me to spend $1350 per camera for a ex82 because I need about 6. $300-800 is ok.

Altronix Power panel with battery backup
mariner posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I am considering the Altronix SMP7PMP16 power panel. http://www.altronix.com/index.php?pid=2&model_num=SMP7PMP16 Would this be considered a good panel for a cctv installation? I prefer to have a seperate battery backup for the cameras. The cameras I currently have are 12v but future cameras may be duel voltage. Thanks for your advise. Mike -
Altronix Power panel with battery backup
mariner replied to mariner's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thanks rapid for the infomation, I wasn't aware that it didn't include the distribution module. The specs made it appear that it had 16 outputs. I also wanted each output to be 12v or 24v selectable and thats not the case with this panel. The panel you suggested is a better choice. I will have to look into an alternative UPS for the camera's. The DVR computer already has UPS. Thanks again for pointing out the shortcomming of the panel. mariner -
While reviewing large motion detection recorded clips, the playback clip will pause while the time bar continues to move to the right; then will continues the clip. This same problem also occurs with Windows Media player while playing clips both on and off the internet. If I start the computer without starting GeoVision; then I have no problems. The GeoVision software is causing the problem but don't know why? I have the GeoVision 1480 and 800 and this has occured with both cards. The Computer I am using is: Sony Viao VGC-RA716G 3.2G P4 1G Ram NVidia GeForce FX5200 128M Video Ram Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2 Display set to 1280x1024 Anyone else had this problem? Did you find a cure? Thanks for any advise/suggestions.

What brand name and model # siamese RG59/U 18/2 Plenum rated cable is most used by all the professionals? I am looking for a 1000' roll. Are the BNC connectors different for plenum rated cable? Thanks for the help.

What does the S/N ratio mean? Is a higher number better or worse? Thanks for any help.

My name is Mike and I live in Northern California. I've been in the electrical union for around 22 years primarily in comercial buildings in San Francisco. I have no technical experience in cctv except running the conduit and 120v power for cctv/security installers. I've recently purchased a Geovision dvr card and some cameras for my home and I am looking for ways to improve what I started. I look foward to reading posts from experienced installers and technicians and any help I can achieve.

Could someone recommend an outdoor camera that has extremely clear nightvision capabilities and clear motion recording. Prefer color for daytime but not required. I need two types of cameras, one to see up to 100' and the other 200' with IR range accordingly. IR can be internal or external, if external could you please recommend those also. I was hoping to keep the price under $800.00 for each including the IR. The DVR card I am currenly using is Geovision 1480. This is for a residence but prefer comercial quality and reliability. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Siamese cable signal clarity
mariner replied to mariner's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thanks for the info VST_Man. I was hesitant to purchase saimese cable until I was confident it was not inferior to seperately run cables. Understanding the cable should be plenium rated RG59U with copper braiding and 18/2 power conductors is there anything else I should be concerned with regarding outer jacket or quality of cable; before I purchase 1000 foot rolls and BNC connectors. Thanks again for you help. -
When using siamese cable; can the power conductors interfere with the clarity of video signal through induction or other means because it is run closely and in parallel to the video signal. Also is plenum rated siames cable always used for residential and professional installations when run in free air. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks Johnb143 for the examples you provided. If the light source was provided by IR would SuperHad produce a picture with less video noise? -
Sony Super Had CCD vs Sony Ex-View CCD for night vision
mariner replied to mariner's topic in Security Cameras
Thanks for the link and information Gonthar. I checked out the camera you mentioned and looks good. I'm interested 8 outdoor cameras capable of no light conditions. I've purchased 4 outdoor cameras that were not capable of their specs ie: night vision 50' and clear night vision picture. I'm hesitant to purchase more cameras without some review or input from people who have used them. Since all the website i've found sofar don't let you return them once they been used; trial and error is getting expensive. -
If this is a comercial building it would be run in EMT. If outside we would use compression fitting. PVC would not be used unless underground, then it would be grey PVC which is for electrical; no other color is permitted. Being low voltage it is not reguired to be in conduit, unless there is a city addemdum to the code which usually is only on fire alarm. Rigid conduit (threaded) would only apply underground. Emt is considered a mechanical ground not an electrical ground (ground wire) and wouldnt pose much of a threat to lightning strikes.

Help! Cable protection sleeve
mariner replied to freeflyer's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
The trade name in the US is "sealtite". It is waterproof with a grey jacket surrounding a flexible metal conduit. This is different from flex conduit which is not water proof. Sealtite also includes a ground band wound in the conduit and requires sealtite compression fittings which have a inner bushing and are watertite.
