  1. It is you that started. Go get the new vaccum cleaner and show off, please. D1 and 960H have many good things, adding to be very very cheap. It is a very rugged system, being around so many years, inter-operable between many different suppliers. The resolution is the same as DVD's. Of course, old CIF based DVR sounds no good these days. It can go easily over 1000 feet, while other HD stuffs are very limited. Be wise.
  2. Did you bring back the vaccum and get the new one, Dumber?
  3. Boogieman, I did read the link that you list, only to find 1 year warranty from the manufacturer. That sounds reasonable. But sorry to find any wordings close to it. Please do not talk and Please show it highlighted in pdf format. Lifetime warranty could mean different from Lifetime return policy? You mean you can return the old vaccum cleaner or any electronic equipments that you bought 10 years ago and get brand new one free or cash back?? Please do it and show me the evidence. It could be more paying to you than arguing and getting angry with me. Cool off and Get Cash. In my thread bove, I never recommended a PC Card for analog cameras. I did a Stand Alone DVR. As said, you can not always sell a Cannon to be recommended for killing a Roach. May I ask you what do you do for a living?
  4. Boogieman, you look quite confused. I can not still find the term "Life Time Warranty" on the link that you listed. I know you are not lying. Please show that to me. I know you are not selling anything. But I know anybody should peddle something or anything for food. Becoming much more true in year 2015. The package 8 ch product you linked seems not to be an IP Camera. It might be HD Analog type. HD-CVI, or HD-TVI, or HD-AHD, un-revealed. And Not to be an NVR. But must be a DVR, specific to camera types as above.
  5. Boogieman, I do not see "Life time warranty", on the link that you list. It is the very reason I said a Good Deal. No suppliers can do that. At least not me. TVs or Cars do not work every 7/24/365. But the much cheaper surveillance system should. Not a single, short break, allowed. Oh poor thing!!!
  6. No need to peddle low resolution junk its 2015..d1 or 960h should not be installed it should be thrown in the trash...I know you guys sell it so thats why you promote it...you can get 1080p CVI from costco with lifetime returns for 500. Or spend a bit more for IP... A 4k camera camera will allow you to zoom in to the image at a later point and get much more clarity. You will also be able to cover much more area say with a 1080p camera over a 960h camera while maintaining MUCH better image quality. I have no idea what you are talking about when you say limited choices for decoding and playback - you are just making stuff up now...how are IP cameras more limited that analog? 1080P-CVI system at 500, Life Time Warranty. Real good deal. I missed. Hope not lying. Are you selling those?
  7. With your budget of 500 cdollar, you can go for a standalone dvr (wd1 or 960H) and analog cameras (ntsc), installing cables on your own. These systems would last forever. You do not face any compatibility issues. Because they are all of standard, inter-operable between all diffrent vendors. Just plug & play. That's all you need for a small store. Do not worry much the quality. They have been there more than 30 years. 90% surveillance system of Las Vegas is still in Analog. I do not understand many experts here are talking about 3MPs /5MPs/8MPs/10Mps, while they are limited to 1080P TV (2MP) or Monitor, and getting less than 10 FPS, and getting limited choices over decoding/playbacking machines or softwares. A cannon can be too much for a chicken, that's my point.

DVI or HDMI is recommended for CCTV

Both are not the same, but on the same video quality level for being transmitted and received. The capturing (decoding) of pixel values gets much easier and more accurate than the conventional RGB TX cable. Therefore, both(HDMI/DVI) can be said better, in terms of video quality, than the conventional RGB TX cable for the monitor.

    Video distortion

Suspect the new LED cameras drawing a good amount of powers, more than you think.
  10. With all due respect, all the responses I am getting back, are totally confusing to me. So, if I want to go with a manual solution, then would below work? Two of http://www.amazon.ca/Hikvision-DS-2CD2132-I-Vandalproof-Waterproof-Security/dp/B00XJI76IE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1437751894&sr=8-3&keywords=Hikvision#productDetails + http://www.amazon.ca/DIGITAL-VIDEO-RECORDER-DS-7204HWI-SH-HIKVISION/dp/B00U9QKD16/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1437751894&sr=8-13&keywords=Hikvision SWChoi, The camera that you picked is IP Camera. I recommended analog cameras, outputing "NTSC", ranging U$20 to U$30. The cameras from Hikvisiion or Cnb tech should be OK. The DVR that you picked is correct. And you need to buy a piece of HDD, and cablings.
  11. With HD IP Cameras, it may seem tough to fit into your budget, as nobody gives you any specific items. You may go for analog systems of 960H, stand alone DVR or PC based capture card- price level U$50 or below. Analog cameras -price level of U$30 or below, at some online markets.

    Need help on HD-CVI system

ricreis394, Buy and test over 200 meter cable before you install in the real field. In our lab with an unbranded rg59 cable, 50 meter was a big challenge. Therefore, please post the result so that all CCTVForum members should be eager to know.

    hard drives and dvr

For 1 Ch analog camera for 960H sized recording, you can assume Max 2 Mega Bits per Second for the file size. Based on this number 2Mbps, you may calculate/ expect the size of HDD and its overwriting period (weeks or month) for looping.

Need Help With 4 channel DVR

Seems that you are talking about analog systems. Buy a new DVR, possibly expanding to 8 Ch /16 Ch or so. Its price can be as good as splitter's that you think, but not workable. If you consider to manage the systems tightly coupled with PC, you may go for PC based DVR, what so called, video capture card.

Please help me pick the best choice:

Sunny I know from your posts that you know better than that. So PLEASE stop misinforming the poster. These are true HD cameras as you can clearly see from the spec. The nvr and the camera are NOT using mpeg4 but rather h.264. The reason why its the listing has the TVL and mpeg options is simply to let the user choose the type of lens, 2.8 3.6 etc and to allow choosing different options in the NVR like poe and the amount of channels. This is done because ali express does NOT have the option to let the vendor input the lens size. There are NO analog sensors on Dahua cams..the tvl numbers are added by the vendor in lieu of selecting the lens size. The vendor does the same think with hikvision cameras http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-hikvision-3megapixel-3mp-array-30m-IR-Network-Dome-DS-2CD2332-I-support-POE-free-shipping/638300_1396985171.html Do you understand now? You are deliberately misleading the op...these are the LATEST cameras from dahua. You know this and a purposely misinforming. Shame on you. Please stop recommending old analog junk to users. If 80 dollars for a camera is expensive then you are in the wrong line of work. Also please note that sunny works for a company that sells analog cards for pc...analog should not be used on a new install of this type. The only thing the op should confirm is that the NVR can support 4mp..its lists 5mp and 3mp...I am pretty confident that it will record the 4mp..worst case set the camera to 3mp.. Boogieman, I did not realize TVL number goes with recommended lens size. I am not quite familar to such terms in that field. It is quite shame that 4 Mega Pixel can be only represented as 600 TVL. But you seem to sell old IP cameras, as H.264 has been around 10 years. In our term, do not recommend a knife for a Bull to be for a knife for a chick. Every penny counts for all involved. Visit at ubiqmicro to see what I am doing for.

Please help me pick the best choice:

I do not agree to Boogieman's recommendation. Quite surprising as I know he advocates all the time HighTech, Expensive Systems including Mega Pixel IP Cameras, High End NVRs,etc, for all applications. Please make sure the points below. The camera shows 4MP that may mean HD Mega Pixel, but claiming 600 TVL as a Horiz resolution that may mean for old analog camera sensors. The NVR claims to support "MPEG-4" which is quite old compression standard, advanced by H.264. Please get Boogieman's confirmation whether the NVR can even support the camera before placing orders
  17. These days, DVR capture cards for analog cameras are very cheap and providing their own software for recording & preview & playback. Why going for Zoneminder, whoever?. Some of Dell boards may cause troubles with PCI cards. you may go for PCI Express, in stead.
  18. Please allow me to add some more. Most of people recommend IP cameras from Hik Vision or Daihua. They are good worthy of their price. But they are using the same chip and the same software and the same materials, as other much cheaper brand's. You may expect better Tech supports from them, by paying a higher price. If you can not get such supports as expected, you actually waste the money. Do they think you can get Supports from those brand companies? Are you sure? You better buy from local dealers because they basically know about what they are selling to survive.
  19. Thang, Most of your requirements are listed as features of most of IP cameras currently selling on the market. Go get any them. Try it or return it, if you do not like.
  20. Evader, Simply buy an analog DVR 4 Ch or 8 Ch, costing around U$50 on the internet market, if you think you can save cameras. Most DVRs old days were for CIF recording, nowdays most of them are for D1 or WD1 (960H). So the quality has improved a lot with much lowered price. Remote access over internet or smart phones have become default.

    What causes ghosting?

As said, "bnc" hook up, you may be probably using analog HD (HD-CVI or TVI, or AHD). These are based on amplitude modulation and can be very susceptible to channel interferences. Make sure alll video lines are to be de-coupled and clean input ports on the board. If playback or recording videos are OK, then noisesgetting into the displaying path would cause ghosting.
  22. Joey, My posting was about an NVR stand alone box that is capable of 8 Ch of 1080PX 30FPS simultaneous playback for preview-realtime spot monitoring, based on main stream, not based on substream. That's what I have been looking for. You links may not seem to match or not to be clearly stated. Break your NVR box, find the chip set name, and check the data sheet from hisilicon.
  23. Can you please recommend an NVR to play back simultaneously 8 Channels of 1080P for monitoring, while storing incoming compressed bit stream from 8 IP cameras (1080P)?. I mean not to decompress based on substream. I mean on "main stream" Probably not, as an NVR Hardware Box. So far, up to only 4 Channels of 1080P, as far as I know. I do not think that the NVR does decompress and reconstruct video image for motion detection. The CPU may be reading the bitstream and checking out motion information for making decision over motion event, not really playing any tricks on the actual reconstructed video sequences.
  24. How much you pay for the box (HDD not included)?
  25. Cameras do it. Incorrect. With a Hikvision NVR system with their IP cameras, the motion detection is performed in the NVR, NOT in the cameras. If you connect them on your LAN and not directly to the NVR's POE switch, you can use BOTH, but I'm guessing no one does that. I do not agree to. I do not think any NVR can be powerful enough to decode several compressed streams from several IP cameras, and to process motion detection algorithm in a robustic way. It is much easier for each IP camera to do motion detection and passing the event to the back end nvr or directly to Notifying Surveillance center.
