  1. USB-DVR has a very limited bandwidth, 27 MBytes out of Max 480 Mbits. Only 1 channel of D1 sized at 30FPS video can go through the USB port. The product that you linked carries a false statement in that 8 Ch X 30 FPS. Only 4 Ch of CIF can go through. That means 8 Ch of CIF at 15 FPS rate. Actually USB-DVR targets the market where Desktop PC are not widely deployed, notebooks relatively dominant. These days the quality of camera has improved. So you would not like CIF sized video, quite being disappointed. Buy a new DVR that can record D1 size or above, if your DVR box is for CIF. Or buy a PC capture card that offers 4 Ch D1 sized or above at 30FPS. How do I know? We supply our chip sets and boards for USB DVR and PC Cards. If you think you are good at software and willingly to suit your own system, you may let me know. We can provide you the device drivers.
  2. If not professional, stand alone DVR or PC card would be good enough. You can buy cheap but decent quality analog cameras for less than U$30, these days. You may consider the DIY package at Walmart/Costco/Fry's, etc.

    CCTV System Required

Please note that Bahrain could be set for 50Hz PAL system, while USA for 60Hz NTSC. Some camera models do not allow to switch NTSC/PAL as you like to have. Most DVRs or PC cards offer remote viewing such as, internet or smart phones. Please search and study threads of 'port forwarding' in this cctvforum.

will 50 ohm coax work for HD-SDI?

Any cables aim to be Ohm-Less. And 50 ohm could mean for impedance matching to balance off the signal for the receiving devices. Therefore, no meaning for cameras(TX) and DVR (RX), both designed, expecting 75 Ohm impedance matching. Why don't you try out before installing cable?

    Confusing terms

TVL shows number of vertical lines discernible of a horizontal line of a video image. In other words, horizontal resolution. 960H is the number of pixels in horizontal line, which is a standard size of video. But the method to send the video data over a cable is fixed as NTSC or PAL signal. The TV signal does not allow much bandwidth, to our sorry. 650 TVL or above is good enough to fit into the bandwidth, and representing the details for 960H sized video. Effio is a good chip from Sony. So better lens can be a deciding factor for video quality, not TVL for analog cameras.
  6. Xrblazer, That's too old-16 Ch. It could be before century. You may buy a new card for your 16 Ch analog cameras.

    Advice for quality HD-SDI cameras

Mega pixel cameras use CMOS sensor, while old analog cameras use either mostly CCD or CMOS sensor. So good lighting can be needed for CMOS even though CMOS sensor has improved a lot. Turning off WDR and turning on 3D-NR (noise reduction) could lead to a better image quality at night. Check out whethet Only Black and White (no color) can be set at night.
  8. Did any body mention the power limit that can be drawn from a pc for the web camera?

    1000TVL Cameras?

The video data from analog camera is transmitted via TV signal (NTSC, or PAL), which is quite band limited. Whatever number of TVL, High Details should be low pass filtered to be squeezed in such a low bandwidth. To me, above 650 TVL is more than enough.
  10. Yes, they are pretty much old, 2 or 3 frames per second for each channel. I will send you our card, free, if you have still interest. We have become the only chip set supplier who survived out.

Install the video capture card into your PCI slot of your PC. Then down load the software for the card, carried in the CD ROM. There are many clips on youtube.

HD TVI press release by Hikvision

captainvideo and milkisbad, From your comments, I can say that over a solid copper of RG59, 1080P X 30FPS video in HD-CVI signal can be received OK as preview seems to be in 30FPS. That's good. But chances are you may have to upgrade the old cable that could be a no brand, cheap cladding one. The reason why different prices for 12 FPS/30FPS recording can be explained. They could be using different Compression Chipsets, cheap one or expensive one, but powerful.
  14. jhonovich, Thanks for your information. That's a Sin if they already knew a line of code states more clearly than a page of text, eventually spreading the adoption more quickly.

HD TVI press release by Hikvision

Maybe you are right in that only 12 fps can be transmitted over the limited bandwidth. 30 FPS could be too much for sending and receiving over a long distance cable without much degradation of the video signal.
  16. jhonovich, Does ONVIF provide C like - source code that conforms and describes ONVIF specification?. For example, H.264 provides C source codes conforming to it.
  17. akv, Please do not expect that PC capture card makers would prepare softwares for both IP camera and their own cards. Even expensive NVR may not be supporting your card. The card of USD 9 is very old, more than 15 years. Its chip maker is closed down. As to card of U$29, its chip maker is also gone.

    Cable Quality, Camera Image Quality

The toss, you are all correct !!
  19. SunnyKim

    Cable Quality, Camera Image Quality

Your guess could be very right. As to analog cameras, the image quality depends on the video decoder chip set of your dvr set. Your old dvr must likely carry TW28XX chip sets form Techwell. But your new DVRs must be using a poor/cheap video decoder. Can you please open the box and let me know the chip set name for all of your DVRs.

    effio-e cameras question

There is no camera/no chipset that does not support OSD. It must be an copy or the maker do not afford any engineers to put OSD feature. Forget it.

    remote cctv

If less than 400 ft, cheaper cable can be used for analog cameras. Bu you may install a good cable of RG59, for upgrading your cameras into HD, say HD_SDI, HD-CVI, HD-TVI, whatever, in future.

    Manufacturers using Ambarella chip

Ambarella does not make sensors, but image processors for raw video data from sensors in front. Of course, they embedded compression engine into the processor.

HD-SDI backward compatibility with analog CCTV cameras

Please allow me to make things clear. 1. Conventional DVR can not go with HD-SDI or HD CVI, whatever HDs. You need to buy a Hybrid type DVR that can still support analog cameras. 2. HD_CVI may ask you to replace the cables which could be cheap/unbranded whatever, if not solid copper cable.

    CBR vs VBR

The quoted one may add some confusions among us. I agree mostly to jhonovich's explanation. To my understanding, in order to give rather constant video quality, VBR is to be used with a fixed quantization parameter. Instead, CBR changes the parameter to squeeze into a given bit stream size during a few seconds, therefore, recorded video quality can be fluctuating(good or bad quality) as a result. A good CBR algorithm can reduce these side artifacts, of course, depending on cameras and DVRs. So the decision is up to you, after testing in the field, to your satisfaction.
  25. Lee Tracey, You are correct. S2 seems to be the latest one for UHD camera application. Thanks.
