I agree to Chris. JPEG2000 is designed good for still image, way better compression efficiency than the previous JPEG. So good for Event triggered recording or medical imaging. It can replace the JPEG, for sure. The chipset probably from Analog Device, I guess. These JPEG series do not fit for video recording.

odd recording -people out of nowhere
SunnyKim replied to DKtucson's topic in General Digital Discussion
I see. WDM should be used but smart softwares can read the type & model of CPU, then automatically set the encoding parameter, say, size, frames, bit rates. Product from Korea is quite reliable and supportive through my experiences. -
odd recording -people out of nowhere
SunnyKim replied to DKtucson's topic in General Digital Discussion
When PC card manufactures supply their product, they target mass audience, knowing that their system would not be run by high end PC. So if processing power of a PC becomes short, their software are designed to drop frames for recording. You may need to upgrade the PC. Or You may reduce the size of recording video. Or you may drop number of frames per second - say 30 frame per second to 15 frames per second. -
Varascope, I agree to you, 100%. Good quality lens decides everything of video quality. The 960H has been driven by Sony's sensor and its eFFio, image signal processor. It is new one so advanced image processing has been employed. But a glitch was there. With our video decoder from ubiqmicro, we learned that Sony's sensor, 1st generation of 960H, were in trouble providing 4:3 aspect ratio. The picture were taken as Flatwider. Girls did not like being seen Fat. Not sure whether 2nd ones are doing OK,these days. One more point, in old days, a small CIF size were forced by rather expansive HDD and a cheaper CoDec that can handle 4 Ch CIF encoding and decoding at the same time, even though camera were able to send out D1 or 960H sized video. Now HDD gets a lot bigger and cheaper and CoDec, as well. So I view that CIF recording becomes obsolete, now. CIF can be only be used for remote access substream.

The system price have dropped, at least, one tenth of 6~7 years. To fit into your budget, 960H (which is newer than conventional D1) can be recommended. Either 960H video capture card or stand alone would be OK.

I bought a cheap card and...
SunnyKim replied to BillAk's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The chip suppliers have been limited but tons of the card manufacturer were there. Now almost all of them are gone. Even if you can find the card manufacturer, you may not be able to contact them. You better post the picture here then wait for some of visitors who have the same card and its device driver. -
Yes, you can have better image with more resolution. The reason behind is that Sony sensor is there and the newer & better image signal processors are supporting it.

ROHS is not a company name. Google ROHS wiki. I giuess it is pretty much old card, as you state one channel real time, but 4 channel switching. No justification. No worthy to plug in a more expensive camera. -
HD-SDI camera and HD SDI stand alone DVR would fit in your range, too. If you have PC and Moniotr, the 4 Ch HD SDI video card would do well without changing your old cable.

Jaggerd images on ic realtime app
SunnyKim replied to mike747's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Mike, The camera seems to be analog one. It is supposed to output TV signal which is interlaced video. To remove the jagged artifacts, it should be capable of doing de-interlacing (making progressive) before compressing into bit streams for remote access. The chip may not be designed to do such a mild de-interlacing job. But you can be put up with. -
If you plug the camera output (RCA or BGA) to your TV's CVBS or external AV port, you would find the camera is working OK or not. As to DVR Box, it seems broken.

Can I build a decent system for around $2000?
SunnyKim replied to BrendonTW's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
BrendonTW, Please note that most of NVR or Hybrid DVR or Cameras are using almost the same chip. So the supporting features are almost the same. Some may require to have different accessories for different/additional features. What's different but important: Technical Support and Warranty. -

Most of DVRs and cameras, in the market these days, do fit for your application. Get HyBrid 8 Ch DVR on the web. -
Check the manual, they likely provide temporary ID and Password before the user fixes his own one. In case no manual, you can ask TVT on the web site.
-
If ID or Password chagned, you better ask the original owner for those info.

Please try with TV menu options: WSS (wide screen signal) ON/OFF or aspect ratio (16:9 or 4:3). But please note that HD TV carries internally video decoder that processes analog tv signal from DVR (BNC or RCA port). Some of the both ends of horizontal pixels will be chopped down and scaled up to fit into the HD TV screen. No idea how many pixels will be clipped, but less than 4 or 8 pixels from both sides, I guess.
-
Those are all analog cameras. Both seem to be good. Better lens gives you better quality. But you may have to find out which one fits the best for you. By the way, how do you recognize the plate number and record them. Do you develop your own system including software or any stand alone DVR can do that?
-
If the CPU of TV were to be programmed to do displaying CCTV input, then your need would be satisfied. No TV manufacture allow these application. You better buy a small monitor for CCTV and alarm.

Looking for Linux NVR software.
SunnyKim replied to MindrustUK's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
To me, it seems that 10 M Pixel sensor counts the Max number of pixels (image size) in a snap shot, say, JPEG. But in video, there are 2 M Pixels in 1080P (1080 Line X 1920 Width). And in 30 Frames per second video, the sensor should be capable of generating 60 M Pixels (2MX 30Frame) per second. Buellwinkle, In old days, CCTV system should rely on the most powerful chip set in the world which is Intel's at that time. Its programming environment is in general Windows. Easy to make money quickly. For example, PCI capture card. Nowdays, CCTV dedicated chipset (SoC for stand alone DVR) supports only Linux not Windows. No reason to pay for Windows, though Linux is still heavy. -
More resolution (33 % more) in horizontal pixels. The new technology carries more features than old DSP chips and sensors for old D1.

Need advice on camera w/ dedicated monitor

Search "video door phone" or buy a stand alone 4Ch DVR. -
I guess you can. But you have to pay for the internet hook up and SMS service.

teckwell tw2804 software/driver
SunnyKim replied to cma's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
CMA, TW2804 is not related to any PC or PCI bus. So they are not responsible for any device driver. TW2804 is just used for capturing video data, passing them to the back end PCI Controller chip (from Alogic) who is responsible for the device driver for the card. You may keep searching internet or posting till you come across the guy who uses the same card that you have. -
Buy 8 Ch DVR and 4 Cameras Motion Detect feature allows that recording can only be made in the event of motion is detected.
