    camera died need new one

Just buy any analog camera, less than U$20. Do not worry any comaptibility issue for any analog cameras.
  2. The quality of DC power adapter should come first, I learned. Bad ones kicked off the good & expensive ones out of market. And some CCTV vendors or suppliers give enough profits for the adaptor makers to survive, just to save their own tech support expenses.

    IP Camera Problem

Running short of electrical power could be main cause.
  4. The system could be one of those HD-CVI/HD-TVI/HD-AHD, so called HD-Analog. It is odd the New DVR does not support old analog cameras. Please check with Q-See whether it could be a HD-CVI DVR. I heard some of HD-CVI DVR models do not support old analog cameras, while the HD DVRs for HD-TVI/HD-AHD mostly support old analog cameras as well as new HD-analog cameras.

    Lorex hdcvi vertical wave problem

That was something I forgot to list; I tried a jumper from the ground at the 120 volt receptacle to the b&C ground and that didn't help. Lorex is sending me another DVR to try, but I don't think that the problem. Do you think it could be the DVR? Yes, I do think the DVR-board is bad. Try another DVR(HD-CVI).

    Lorex hdcvi vertical wave problem

If the distance from camera is short enough(less 60ft), the DVR is suspicious for Grounding to Board & Earth. I do not think HD-CVI receiver chipset is good enough.

    Local Record Only Cameras

In addtion to IP cameras, you may look for mobile black box cameras, a sort of, recording to SD Cards.

Asian supplier substitute to Arecont or Avigilon ?!?

Attend CCTV Expos. You may still find active makers from Taiwan or Korea. They are small but flexible. They offer good tech supports and quality controlled products, not failing your expectations.

    Thinking my mom got swindeled.

U$3,000 could be a bit too much. Herebelow, U$299 was quoted in viewtopic.php?f=54&t=49370
  10. If you go for 4Ch analog systems, you can do with less U$300, including, DVR, HDD and Monitors. Make sure the DVR can do recording 960H or D1 format. With more budget, you can go for HD-Analog systems. These have 3 different types: HD-CVI (Daua), HD-TVI(HikVision), HD-AHD(NextChip, and other vendors). These 3 are not compatible each other. So you have to match the cameras and their DVR. You may check with "Lorex".

    Help with 960H record mode

Please allow me to elaborate more on 960H. I do not think any sensor makers are producing image sensors, fit for True 960H, as said above. The price dropped so badly. They lost any interests to revamp anything for 960H, moving into HD Mega Pixels, in stead. That may explain why I commented there were no 960H sensors and would be no 960H sensors and cameras. All analog cameras are supposed to output either PAL or NTSC -Analog TV signal. The signal is sampled and digitized at a video decoder inside any DVR box. If digitized/sampled for 960 pixels per line, we call it "960H" format. If digitized for 720 pixels per line, we call it "D1" format. The old CIF format, 360 pixels or 352 pixels per line, comes from the D1 format. As the format 960H comes out newer than D1, we may say the image quality could be better, simply because newer / better image processing algorithms could be applied for 960H, letting alone the fact that 960H gives more 33% pixels than 720H(D1) per line.

    Help with 960H record mode

D1 size has 720 pixels of Horizontal Line, while 960H has 960H pixels, giving you 33% more of digitized sample of pixels. It may give you a somewhat illusion of better image. The quality of video depends on its processors inside the DVR box, as well. But true, 960H is the newer than D1. Therefore, techncially more advanced in its image processing algorithms. Thus, maybe leading to a better image. So, I do not claim that D1 would be a better option. Let me tell you this. Suppose you are making 960H sensor, fitting Wide Screen. Then How do you deal with Compatibility issue with old D1 DVRs? If no options are given or available on a camera side, that means No True 960H Sensor. No true 960H camera. Who cares the price has dropped down so badly for dealers and manufactureres?

    Help with 960H record mode

The same reason you are replying to posts. You are respected with more than 6000 posts. But not respected if you do not respect others. To your question, "What has pal or NTSC got to do with 960h ?" ... Not easy to explain to you, a CCTV specialist. Nobody, even Sony, produces sensors fit for true 960H. And it will not. And you can see the cameras selling as "960H", whether you buy or not. No reason to argue with. Better reason with a wolf.
  14. Any cameras will not be ok, there is a huge difference in build, image quality, and most importantly firmware stability between no name camera brands and established brands like hikvision and dahua. Hikvision, even on their entry level 2 line cameras, has line cross and intrusion detection that can significantly lower false alerts. Dahua has similar functions on their mid-range models. So dont say any camera will be ok and that the user should expect a flood of emails..that will not be the case if the proper camera is purchased. This idea that all cameras are the same is complete and utter nonsense. Both HikVision and Dahua are using the same chip set and the same SDK. So are other CCTV makers. Some can make the exact copy of others. Some can make "Look & Feel" different. Basically the same. I do not think those good brands can offer a good tech service, worth of more dollars that you may pay. So, you better find and pay good local dealers, ready to help when you need.
  15. Not necessarily to be Hik or Dahua. Any cameras would be ok, nowadays. But you may experience flood of emails with false motion detections.
  16. Any other reason why you are trying to save HDD storage? The price of HDD has droped down so badly, not worthy of the efforts.

    Help with 960H record mode

There should be No 960H cameras. All analog cameras ouput NTSC or PAL signal. The 960H is the format (size) at DVR, not camera side, when the TV signals are digitized in D1 size or 960H size at the receiving end, DVR. If your DVR do not understand 960H format, you may set it to D1 format for all cameras.
  18. I Checked your link. Its recording resolution is all Digital HD, not conventional analog resolution of CIF or D1 HD720P could be OK for your application

Absolutely false. IP systems can do all that and more. Including advanced motion detection like line crossing...Please stop posting purposely false info. Then please recommend a good one to the original poster. To me, IP cameras already lost "flexibility". IP Cameras have become already "Canned Food" which do not allow you to cook on your own taste.

    newbie...need some direction

If you may look at DVR system, not IP camera system, then you can come across the right solution for you. DVR system offers instant spot video display, motion detection, alarming inut, and geting you signaled wherever you are on, email/message, whatever. IP camera system may claim to do that in a very flexible way, but hard to find or to suite your needs.

    Newbie advice requested

Its DOES handle 4mp. It DOES handle 20fps per camera. Why do you use the word "claim" as if alleging that this is a false claim? There is no reason to playback 8ch of 4mp video, because the monitor will NOT be displaying that if you have 8 cameras on a 1080p monitor. How many times do you need to be reminded of this? Why do you keep asking for this useless function as if not having it is a bad thing? At least the user can view full 4mp if they want to in full screen and zoom in on the important detail. Do you have a better solution? other than recording in low res 960h which gives you low res images that cannot be effectively zoomed in on and cannot provide a 4mp image either? As usual you make no sense. That NVR can playback up to 4 ch at full res..an 16 using the substream..which will still be better quality than junk 960h and the user has the OPTION to then select ANY of the cameras and watch up to 4 in full res at a time...but again, it doesnt matter on a 1080p monitor if you are watching a matrix because the monitor itself is NOT capable of displaying more than 1 camera in 1080p...Please please learn about this technology before providing incorrect advice to users on this forum!!! Enough is enough. Tell us why we need FULL 4mp res x 16 cameras on a 1080p monitor??? it makes ZERO sense. If the users plays back the substream and needs further detail, they can bring up a single camera in full screen then zoom in. I guess the chip inside the box can do play back (decoding simultaneously) 4 Ch X 1080P X 30FPS as a Max Performance. I mean the max decoding capability to be limited to 120FPS of 1080P. Substream is another cost to HDD and burden to Network...

help with 1st home cctv system

If 960H is specified, that means we are talking about analog cameras, which are cheap and rugged. You can have 4ch analog systems with DVR+HDD included for around U$200, if you search around the internet. The notation 720/1080TVL could be wrong. TVL does not mean the number of vertical lines (Height) of a image. The 720P(720HX1280W) and 1080P(1080HX1920W) are all HD sized video. There are HD-Analog system, e.g. HD-TVI, or HD-CVI, or HD-AHD. These 4 Ch systems are available for less U$300, including HDD/DVR. If you can afford more, you can go for 1080P IP Camera and NVR system.

I read the link: Costco /QSee 16 Channel System, http://www.costco.com/Q-See-16-Channel- ... 13199.html Found out the NVR claims 4MP camera recorded at 20FPS rate per channel... It claims to handle 16 Ch. Can anyone confirm that the DVR can really de-compress and play back 8 Ch or 16 Ch of 4 MP recorded each at 20 FPS, simultaneously on a monitor?
