Agree with Birdman that a separate network is the way to go. Aside from the network loading concerns of the surveillance system, you don't want anyone to "hack" into the cameras. It really boils down to a "management" decision though. Some want their MIS people to have control of all networking within their facilities and some want the the security aspects totally isolated from everyone and everything else for the obvious reasons. One solution a customer used to keep everyone happy was to enable "white list" access and allow one MIS computer to enter the system which in turn was monitored by the security personnel.

Try closing the Webserver on the Geovision system and restarting. Before pressing OK, go to the Video tab and select something other than Normal (320x240). Medium is 640x480, Large is 720x480 and Actual Size would be for your Megapixel camera.

Geovision DID NOT shut down their dipmap service. We've been using it for years and register new sites weekly. If your DDNS client is running, just maximize it. If the user name/password is remembered, just click Register and re submit at the dipmap site. If not, enter new username/password then click Save and then Register. After registration, DDNS client should Update successfully. If the client isn't running, look in Start - All Programs - DDNS. If it's not there, reload the DDNS client from your Geo DVD.

Agree newer is not better or faster. Only mean that 8.2 added some desireable features over 8.12 that you stated would suffice, NVR support most notably, and still runs more efficiently than 8.3.X. It all boils down to the features the customer needs or wants.

Geovision, bandwidth control for control center traffic
Harrar replied to sf2's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Easiest way to check usage at the Control Center site is thru Task Manager. We have one site with 51 cameras being viewed and our network usage is only 2.5%. If you want to get specific info for each server, load in Bandwidth Control Client Site from the Main System section of your Geo DVD. This will give many options for setting up and viewing your networks status. Chapter 11 of th User's manual will give you details. -
Agree with Rory except I would raise the bar to 8.2 which still may be problematic with whatever version board you 're using. It should work just fine with the V4. Anything above 8.2 will require the the V4A version.

Geovision, bandwidth control for control center traffic
Harrar replied to sf2's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Bandwidth Control under the WebCamServer only applies to web access. You need to configure Bandwidth Control as a Default Service in the Control Center Server on each DVR for it to take affect to Control Center. Click on the CC Server icon and then select Configure then select Set Default Sevices. Ensure Bandwith Control Service is checked then click OK. Select Service and Start Default Services. Minimize the CCS and you should be all set. -

Using 9 channel screen division setting with 8 channels
Harrar replied to badeffect10's topic in Geovision
Stop all recording. Go to Configure > General Settings > Camera/Audio Install > Camera Audio Install. Under the Startup section, check Default Screen Division. Click the Green arrow and select 9 Channel then close. On the main screen, select the far left icon (exit, minimize, etc) and select Restart using Last Settings. 9 channel should now be your default startup screen. -
How big of an area are you looking to cover? If you can mount one in the ceiling, I would look at a Mobotix Q24. It'll give you a 360 display of the floor area , 4 segments or panorama views plus the ability to PTZ. The free software will also allow you to PTZ your recordings. Something to look at.

Sorry, you're right! Standard Geo only allows you to display 16 of 32 cameras in Simple view. Not many people use Simple View. We had a couple of customers that needed additional cameras displayed (18 and 21) and had to modify the LanMpegMultiView.html file. Lot of fun (!/?) playing with Geo software. I'll have to try Rory's solution.

You could have them log in to the server using the standard webcam and just select simple view instead of common version. Easy viewing and camera selection as long as he doesn't need any of the other controls.

We have several Geo NVR systems installed running 14 to 18 IP's and haven't experienced any dropouts. Over a 100Mb network, that number of cameras shouldn't overload your subnet. The only bottleneck might be from the switch to the server. All of our servers use Gigabit NIC's which tie in to a Gigbit port on the switch.

Mobotix Q24 powering by POE question.

You can store right on your PC. Just set up the share and username/password. If you hit the Help within the Admin Menu>Image Storage>Storage to an External File Server, it'll give you all the info you need. -
Only need capturing no live view. Do I need SW then?
Harrar replied to junkjunk13's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Can't speak for the Axis but for the Mobotix, you don't need any additional software for basic recording and playback of events. Depending on how long you need to retain recordings, you may be able to eliminate the NAS and record to the camera's internal SD card if you order the M model. For the NAS, you will need to set up a share for the cameras to record to. Best to set a folder for each camera to make life easier. Configure the camera's file storage settings with NAS address, share, user/password, reboot and you're set. Set up your Video Motion windows and enable record and all data is sent to your NAS. Viewing recordings is simple. Just call up the camera with your browser, select Event Player and you can view events from the ring buffer, SD card (if installed) or the NAS. To get more sophisticated, you can get MxEasy or MxControlCenter software from Mobotix for free and be able to PTZ the recorded events and do post-processing. -
Any way to increase mobile resolution beyond a max of 320?
Harrar replied to RichTJ99's topic in Geovision
Are you talking about viewing analog cameras on your mobile? Did you change your Video Source from the default 320x240 to 640x480 or 704x480? -

The other setting to look at in the Webcamserver is the Video tab. Default is usually Normal (320x240) Change to Large or Actual size to get higher resolution from the system. -

For Geovision, under Networks, stop and restart your WebCamServer. Before clicking on OK, go to the JPEG tab and set to a higher quality. Typically, the default is 25. Try a higher setting and check it out. -
According to Geovision if your GV650 card is Ver 3.30 or higher it'll work with Version 8.4.
-
According to Geovision and our distributor, all LEGITIMATE versions of the 1120, 1240 and 1480 are compatible with Ver 8.3X. We've upgraded several older systems from 8.2 to 8.3.4 without problems.

You can disable direct draw overlay when you log in to a GV system with VNC to view all your cameras. Just remember to enable it before you end your VNC session.

Exporting video as exe will not run on computers..
Harrar replied to ssmith10pn's topic in Geovision
Instead of "Save as AVI" (with exe option), try using "Backup". Make sure "Include Player" is checked (should be the default). With this you can playback single or all cameras that you saved with ezviewlog player. -
Do you have the "Create JPEG files" checked under the JPEG tab of the Webcamserver?

Is Geovision The Best Option?
Harrar replied to fas's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Been dealing with Geovision for quite a few years now and find it to be a very good product. It accounts for almost 90% of our customer base. We started out with all analog but over the past two years it seems everything is hybrid/NVR and we and our customers have been very happy with the results. There is a learning curve but after a few, they can be setup as fast as a standalone. Admittedly, it's gotten a little "bloated" as they add new features and bugs do pop up but that happens with ALL software (just look at windows!). As for support, I can't say we've ever had a big problem with it. We call or email our distributor's tech support and always get a quick response (even if it's an "I don't know") or if they don't know, they won't hesitate to call Geo USA for a 3 way phone call for assistance. Case in point: year and a half ago, we were doing a 30 Mobotix camera/Geo NVR install with multiple servers and Control Center. Had problems with the audio from the cams. Our distributor contacted Geo and we had the software patches and instructions the next day. An issue with the Control Center and in talking with the Geo rep, resolved in an hour. Is it the best system money can buy? Probably not but you do get a lot of bang for your analog/hybrid/NVR buck. -
Geovision "officially" supports only XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008.
