  1. That's pretty much where I am. I think the one rep. I spoke with said it was sent parcel post - so it would be the last to move from one location to another. It appears to have left a sort facility Jan. 13. No word since. They said I should receive a call by COB tomorrow. If not, I should call them back. Guess I'll wait to contact the Amazon seller till then.
  2. Here's a non-update update.... I have not received the IP cam. The shipper said it should have been delivered by now, so a ticket has been opened for someone to try to locate the package. Hopefully this gets sorted out soon so I can post regarding my thoughts and experience.
  3. Kawboy - Thanks for the suggestions. I am struggling with my internet today and didn't see your post, even though it is several hours old now. I may very well move Cam 2 to where you suggested. That does look like a better location. As you noted, I am going to have to accept some compromises. For one, I have to recognize the WAF (wife-aversion factor). I don't think it will go over well for me to mount any cameras on the front of the house. In addition, the front of the house is brick. I don't want to mess with the brick. In addition, the tree to the right is not real wide but the top of it is over the second floor soffit. That's why the possible 4th Cam would can't be exactly in the top/right corner. In general, I can get away with soffit mounts, but the WAF will kick-in with cameras mounted 7 or 8 feet above ground. Regarding Cam 1 and the vertical layout of the garage, I didn't know how to depict that. The best way that I can describe it is that the very top of the roof is a consistent, straight line across the middle of the house - about where the arrows are drawn showing how far away the neighbors are. The roof over the garage then slopes down to the front of the garage. As a result, garage roof will obstruct part of the driveway just in front of the garage doors, but not a lot.
  4. Thanks. This actually sounds good. The goal with the front camera is more of an event camera, as you say. I would like to see if someone/some people are in the drive way or if people are standing in the front of my house. At this point, that is what I want. Course, I completely agree with the comments above that I could very well change what I want later on. However, my thought is that I could always add the fourth camera to the front of the house and aim it down on the area from the driveway to the front door - more "zoomed in" than Cam 1. That would be to ID people, if I decide that I want that. Sounds like I will be OK with the first camera that I ordered. I'll do some more digging on options for the rear cameras. I don't think my wife will be pleased with anything other than domes back there. Once I exclude anything but domes, outdoor ready, night/day, I am pretty much between the P3364-VE, the P3384-VE and the P3346-VE (the last being, of course, the 3MP camera). The P3346-VE, however, appears to be a generation older and doesn't have Lightfinder (which the 3364 and 3384 have) or WDR (which, I believe, just the 3384 has).
  5. Hopefully this picture will help. I used "Paint" and my skills are not all that impressive.... Note that the little rectangles are supposed to represent doors. There is one in the front, middle of the house. There are three doors in the rear of the house. Two of the doors are between the brown areas (which are supposed to represent paver patios). There is also a third door pretty much right below where Cam 2 would go. So, my hope is that Cam 2 will pick up two doors and Cam 3 will pick up one door. This first camera that I bought is the Axis P3364-ve 6mm. I was intending to place it at the yellow dot for "Cam 1". It would be mounted under the soffit on the second floor. Actually, my assumption is that all of the cameras will be mounted under the soffit. Drawing the picture was a pretty good exercise for me - although it's not to scale, which concerns me a bit. As far as lighting, I have marked where I have the two flood lights (with motion sensors). They light up the area pretty well. In the front of the house, I have four lights (two on either side of the front door and two on either side of the garage doors). For Cam 1 - I think I want something that is pretty wide. The wider coverage of the 6mm is probably a good thing for that location. Thoughts? I would very much appreciate some thoughts on cameras for the rear of the house. I'd like to get that area addressed next. Then, depending on my thoughts (noting my rookie status), I'll figure out whether I should get a fourth camera for the front/right of the house. The tree close to that location may be a bit of an issue. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  6. Thanks, all, for the help/comments/post. Much appreciated! These are excellent points and something that I, unfortunately, missed during my research. Big miss. I bought a 6mm for the front yard. Upon further review, put another way from the quoted post, the 6mm runs from 105° to 49°. The 12mm runs 82° to 24°. I didn't understand that difference....my fault. What I am confused about - still - is the practical difference of the two. Although both operate across a fairly broad range, the range of the 6mm is much more broad, isn't it? The 6mm covers wider area, correct? I don't understand why I would want the 6mm for a small tight area. Wouldn't the 12mm operate within a smaller area? Or, more zoomed in? Thanks, again, all!
  7. I could use some help regarding a camera for the rear of my house. I would certainly want to stay with Axis and would probably get the P3364-VE. For the front of my house, I bought the 6mm. For the back, I am wondering if I should get the 6mm or the 12mm. I tried to use the program on Axis, but, frankly, I found it a bit confusing. I found some other pictures on the web which show the difference. As a result, I think I would also get the 6mm for the rear of the house. The back yard is not very large. Because of the layout of the house, the camera would be mounted under the soffit of the roof above the second floor. It will be almost directly over a door that I would like to be within the camera's view. From the back of the house, it would only need to go out about 30 feet. From left to right, it would only need to cover about 30 feet, as well. Any thoughts/suggestions on whether I go with the 6mm or the 12mm?
  8. Well, had a bit of a scare last night. Was in bed trying to fall asleep when the dog starts to bark (unfortunately, we didn't hear her bark the night that the neighbor's house was broken into). Anyway, I'm half out of it when I recall that incident. Now, I'm wide awake. Then I hear something bang rather loudly against the house. Time to get out of bed. Got downstairs and immediately notice the flood lights (with motion sensors) have turned on. The dog is fired up, barking, her hair is standing straight up and she wants to get outside. Checked the house, went back to bad and fell asleep a while later. Tired today. Meanwhile, my IP camera is now spending its fourth full day at a sort facility. Seriously considering ordering my next couple sooner than anticipated and from someone with faster shipping. Although I own guns, none are currently in the house. However, if anyone did come in the house, I figured I could "fart in their general direction."
  9. Just saw a post on another website saying: "First world problems."
  10. Well, late Monday I checked the tracking information and was pleased to see an expected delivery date of the 15th (yesterday). That date came and went without a package. I checked the site again this morning and the package is still shown to be at the same location as Monday. I decided to call. I was told that the update scans are not required to be done. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't. I don't know what information they are relying on, but I was assured that the package is moving along. They told me to call back next week - they won't do anything until then. Maybe I'll go rent Monty Python. In the meantime, I am now realizing how much I appreciate Amazon's (corporate) shipping speed.
  11. I can sympathize. I ordered a box set of Blu-rays from Amazon UK back in December (before Christmas) and they are expected to be delivered January 24th. Apparently delivery by steam trawler is still an option. maybe they're using carrier swallows. european, of course, as the african swallow's not migratory. and the cameras would have to weigh less than a coconut. I'm suddently thrilled with my stagecoach carrier.
  12. That's the position I am in. I am a little concerned that the seller told Amazon that it was shipped a week before the shipping company says it was shipped. Hopefully it arrives in new/working order. The price was certainly right. I'm not sure how old you guys are, but I couldn't help but think of "Oregon Trail" when typing my post above. I think it was the first PC game I ever played - in the mid 1980's.
  13. Still waiting for it to arrive. I appears to have been sent via stage coach. At last report, the decision was made to circle the wagons at about the Mississippi.
  14. Voip - Thanks for taking the time to see if you could find one. Strange that they don't have an actual manual. EDIT: Sure enough, I just "chatted" with Axis and there is no manual.
  15. Does anyone have a link to the manual for Axis Camera Companion? I have spent WAY more time that I would like to admit trying to find it. Complete failure on my part, if it exists. Thanks!
  16. Interesting. Maybe there was another week on the hold time, as of the date of my order. I looked back at the email that I received on January 2. It did say that the item was shipped, it wasn't just the order confirmation from Amazon. As of Jan. 2, the estimated delivery date was from January 9 through January 25th. Pretty long time period. I wonder if Amazon tracks how long it takes a seller to ship, from date of order.
  17. Well, I received a tracking number today. That's the good news. The bad news is that it appears that it wasn't actually shipped on January 2, as Amazon indicates. According to the tracking information, it was just received yesterday afternoon. Expected delivery date is January 15. I think I now understand why the projected dates of delivery were so broad. It will be here before the outside projected date and I saved a fair chunk of change through this seller.
  18. Wish I knew when my camera will arrive - there's no tracking information available and the projected delivery date is from tomorrow through over 2 weeks from now. I feel like a child waiting for Christmas, except that I don't know when Christmas will be.
  19. Do you mean that your router is not seeing your DVR? If that's the case, that is what I would work on. As Buell suggested, try turning off your router and your DVR. Then turn your router back on and after it fully reboots, restart your DVR. I think you need to make sure that your router sees the DVR. Otherwise, when another device connects to the router, the router will not know where to send it, so to speak.
  20. Makes sense. We certainly have plenty of humidity around here during the summer. I prefer winter!
  21. Glad to hear I'm good with the ZyXel. I am pretty sure it was a post from buell that led me to it. Voip - For me, that was another plus for the Axis cameras - not having to run extra wires for the heater. Course, I really don't know if they will even turn on. I'm outside of Philly. Although it does get down below freezing, it doesn't tend to stay there much. Do the heaters turn on for humidity? Excited to get this one installed and see how it does.
  22. Hhhmmmmm. Disappointing, I didn't know there was a difference - that there are PoE classes. Unfortunately, I do not see that specific information on the ZyXEL website. I did a search and found this information regarding the difference: From the information I found, and recognizing my minimal knowledge/understanding, I suspect that the ZyXEL is a class 3. However, maybe someone can help me. I bought the ZyXEL ES1100P 16 port switch. Here is a link to the website: http://www.zyxel.com/uk/en/products_services/es1100_series.shtml?t=p Some of the information at that site is as follows: The ZyXEL site also states that the Total PoE Power Budget is 130 Watts over 8 channels (which actually works out to 16.25 Watts per channel). The reason I bought the ZyXEL was to ensure that I had sufficient power for each port. I read that some other PoE switches might have enough power to run 4 of 8 ports at full power, but not all 8 at full power. In any event, it appears that a Class 3 PoE needs to provide 15.4 Watts per port, which the ZyXEL does. I'd like the heater on the IP cam to be able to work, if it needs to. Thought? Comments?
  23. The Zyxel PoE switch arrived today. It was ordered from an Amazon seller and arrived in 2 days. Can't wait to get the P33.
  24. That's what my soffit is - a decorative vinyl product. Camera - Thanks for the suggestion. Since I already own a Synology "DiskStation", I started with Synology's list of compatible IP cameras. Synology also has a list of IP cameras that are (somehow) optimized for use with the DiskStation. Axis is one of the relatively few that is listed as an optimized, which helped sway me. Unfortunately, the Avigilon products are not listed as compatible.
