vandelism - In car DVR with external cameras Advice please
rory replied to adamisannoyed's topic in System Design
Joking right? That thing costs a fortune! -
gotta remember even the new IDEs are only 30 mb/sec read speed, the 2 or 3 year old satas around 55-75, and the new sata blues around 130 or so. Only ones I had issues with though are the greens of any sort including the AV models. Even a slow 5400rpm USB drive had no problems when I was troubleshooting a green drive in a Geo DVR. So shouldnt be the drive .. but never say never .. is it noisy or quiet? Ive had HDDs come damaged through shipping before, one reason I like to get the retail drives when I can, the packaging is much better - was this OEM or Retail? Another thing to consider is, if the hard drive died, it could have been damaged from a brownout or other power issue, and other parts of the DVR also could have been damaged.

Dont "have to" order from canada, there is a retailer/distributor in NY who has some of the best prices on CNB in North America .. and free ground shipping within the US at least (dont know about Canada) over $500 orders. That price in your link on the CNB is almost what I sell it for here in the Bahamas Retail!! We normally dont allow links to CCTV stores on the forums but their prices are so ridiculously high .. Also the DH-DVR1604LE-A is the most common model and the one I have been using (well the 4 and 8 channel also). Only supports 1HDD though so if you want longer recording than a month or so would need the larger unit as you posted which holds 8HDD. I have a couple 32 channel Dahua's on the way, should be interesting, not real time, its the model inbetween, but still 7fps D1 (4Cif) each channel.

Color cameras, need light - not sure you want Infrared, might worsen the old people's cataracts Cheap 600TVL option for indoor dome: CNB DFL-20s for fixed lens or CNB DBM-24VD for varifocal lens (not TDN, fixed IR Cut) If you need to point it at a door entrance, check out: CNB DBB-24VD (WDR, not TDN, fixed IR Cut) They are simple to install and adjust, especially the DFL-20s, so you also cut your labour cost down ALOT. Cheapest Color Dome I know of in North America, at least with a 1/3" CCD 3.6mm fixed lens and not totally rubbish, XTS-M42VP, not sold retail. They also have the IR version for just a little bit more. These are low res though, 420TVL and no IR cut (fine for indoors), selling like mad down here though. For DVR, check out Dahua ... cheap and loaded with features, simple install. Sold under Mace, Gen IV (Intellicam USA), XTSVideo, and a host of others. Otherwise other DVRs that would work and cheap, Cantec (will see them on an online retail store, distributed by CRC, they are Korean DVRs and low priced), or similar to those, the CNB DVRs (these also sold under a host of other names, though CNB has their own custom software which is better than the original manufacturer's). I havent used the Cantec/CRC but read every line of their manual and specs and tested their CMS software .. are impressive for the price, and used another brand of the CNB DVRs. Lots of products out there, these are just some I have either used or investigated. BTW I import these from the US so they have to be cheap

How did this IR turn out? Do you have any sample images? Thanks.

Yeah i know .. but then you do get free medical, good food, and good roads, and laws that are at least generally enforced The only thing keeping me from moving back to the UK right now is the weather. The amount of money I need to save up for some medical tests and treatment though (been trying unsuccessfully for a couple years now), I might have to end up back there at some point ...

have you tried the user 888888 and that as the password also?
-
Well gas is $4.70 a gallon here now .. even in my 3 cylinder truck im easily spending $5 a day .. if I was driving my 4.0 jeep .. well probably more like $15-20 a day .. and thats all without doing any real driving .. lots of small jobs and people want us to work for pennies, or free. Glad to see Scorpion is still with us

Well looks like the monalisa is blowing those particular cameras away

Actually AvTech used a mixture of ActiveX and Java for years, only more recently they switched to quicktime. But AvTech (sold under Cpcam name also for marketing) is still one of the worst quality DVRs in the world, I know, I have one.
-
Well it seems they have to use IE, as it only has activeX. Otherwise better than using the browser alltogether would be to install the desktop software
-
How is quicktime going to run ActiveX?
-
Twist ons are great, though as with anything else one needs to know how to install them properly. but it should be 75 ohm.
-
People are lazy these days, even if they buy it themselves, in most cases they dont want to do the work of installing it, or feel they cant. All work is, work. But yes I would steer them far away from Swann.
-
Should work fine. I have one, well the 500GB one, in my Avtech IDE DVR.
-
Lots of issues with that HQ1 chip ... But if you can, disconnect the IR from the camera power and see if that helps.

For Mini covert cameras, check out the KT&C line. They have one for every occasion For night apps, check out their Exview 600TVL BW .. just tested 3 of their BWs in a dark nightclub .. although we are ending up with Exview 420TVL for ultimate low light ..the 600TVL Exviews outperformed the standard 420TVL (non exview). This is ofcourse with no IR, they basically see in such a dark environment that our own eyes cannot see what they did. We are using their mini Waterproof bullets though, but basically same cameras as the board models. They have a range of lens options also.

I never use the EXE anyway, I normally use the Ezviewlog and it loads the codecs every time, also gives you the full playback software, just like sitting on the DVR. I honestly cant remember if the EXE is supposed to load the codec also, you should see a dos window though as it installs the codec, at least thats how geo does it with Ezviewlog. Other than that there are other ways also: Bear in mind some of these are quite old, but idea is still useful. viewtopic.php?t=9760 viewtopic.php?t=14177 http://www.bahamassecurity.com/geo8320activex.asp Also there may be some other codecs on your computer that is causing it to fail - eg if you installed any codec packs.

AVerMedia AVer nv3000 or Geovision - GV800?
rory replied to vavdagic's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I prefer Geo's software. If I had to choose between those 2. Otherwise there are others I prefer now. -
RG59 coax can easily do 1000 feet color.
-
240-300' its normally more like 10-20 degrees. If they werent Bosch now I would recommend Extreme CCTV IR, otherwise I cant recommend Raytec. Probably better off looking for a cheaper brand of IR.

Do any DVR Cards support 64bit Operating Systems?
rory replied to scoutfu's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Most DVR cards only support Intel, SIS, or Nvidia .. just not AMD or Via. Some will still work though. -
Is Geovision The Best Option?
rory replied to fas's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Geovision's like the ipad of PC DVR cards .. everybody has to have one although to be fair, Geovision does a heck of a lot more than the ipad can ever dream of. -
all I ever use are WDs, never had any issues.
