yes could be over the chip also. It could have come with a spec of dust from the factory. For the lenses I just use Alcohol pads now, actually the cheapest I can find is the little square pads with alcohol on them, used for cuts etc, found in pharmacies. Its not perfect but its cheap and quick and does the job.

Ive seen something similar before but not on a CCTV camera, my samsung digital still camera came with a little white dot .. couldnt return it though so had to live with it. If it were me I would also take the lens off and clean it completely on both sides to be sure but then thats extra work and still might not help. Sealed doesnt mean anything either they could have put it back together to make it look like its sealed.

is it still there when the cover is removed? also check the lens for dirt. If the lens is totally out of focus such as at the widest range then its normal to see a little dust that you normally wont see when its in focus. Blow on the lens and see if it goes away, if not maybe try cleaning the lens, though that might introduce more dust depending on what you clean it with.

if you have the activeX controls or send me the links to a browser app i can see what I can do with them .. but that I know of there is nothing much out there like that, yet. Some are actually impossible to work with so it is not going to work for all DVRs anyway. The DVRs really have to be kind of well known though to make it worth it.

Adam .. I have a client with the 1120 using the composite out to an LCD PC Monitor with just 6 or 7 camera way view with certain cameras using Spot Setup .. uses a VGA converter . but the quality literally sucks. So not having tried it yet .. can we use the Digital Matrix to just show certain cameras in a certain multiview on a 2nd monitor? And then ditch that spot setup all together ..? Id like to switch him to HDMI anyway for both monitors .. although right now its a coax cable run about 70 feet to the spot monitor .. wonder if HDMI can push that far? I know I could just try it but to save time and ofcourse the extra money the HDMI stuff costs down here .. would like to know more before I get into it. Thanks.

thanks Ben .. I gotta get Ubuntu loaded now and try it out

Attaching the camera to the gangbox alone should hold them both in place with the bars between them?

Is this the Suse version or is there another one? Thanks.

There's countless Axis ones, but in most cases they know they are out there, just live video no Admin control.

Nah, I can't stand AVTech. Can't tell you how many customers I lost selling rebranded AVTech's(this was at my previous company). They would either break down in a couple months or simply look so terrible the customer would return it. I used to joke with my product guy about the AVTech he had sitting on the bench. "Are you sure you want that thing on overnight? It's gotta be a fire hazard." no i meant dahua .. they have PSS for Suse Linux now .. I have it here .. but I have no Suse

If one could afford a mac they should be able to afford something better than an AvTech " title="Applause" /> So true... lol. Chris you tried their Suse app yet on linux? I cant even download Suse though its taking too long .. I have ubuntu but wont work with that.

I Repeat - they have an SDK - the software programmers for those VMS etc CAN easily integrate that into their app, maybe not as easy as Axis, but still easy enough it was worth it to them. Bottom line is that one can easily connect to ANY geovision IP camera, Video Server, or DVR from ANY software program, if the programmers of such software were to integrate it into their software - it IS 100% possible. I would really double check the validity of whoever is telling you it is not. Alarm monitoring companies use Geovision's SDK integrated into their CMS for years now, this is nothing new, seems the IP software companies are behind on this, time for them to catch up, Geovision is a BIG player that has been around along time before them and have a huge client base probably larger than the entire IP camera industry, so it would be in their interest to support them, or not. Think about it though, why would people use them for Geovision cameras when Geo's NVR is 1/4 the price? Thats the original point I was making. Its not that it is closed or whatever, it is WIDE open and has been for years.

Air filters are only effective for where they are mounted. There are many other areas for dust to get in. Also if they arent regularly cleaned, even more heat builds up inside. So Air Filters are good but dont prevent dust 100%.

Trust me the leaf blowers blow the paint off the motherboard its so powerful we use the machine also but as mentioned we take it to them to do it as its not portable.
-
No idea, you would need to ask them, you asked a question and I gave you an answer regarding them being locked or open. But Geovision is primarily a software company first, always has been, they are not Acti or Axis who are known for their cameras primarily .. Geovision are software developers. But I thought you would be happy to know that you can access Geo IP cameras and Video servers from ANY software program?
-
Im not implying anything, just stating what I know to be factual, from experience. Geovision supplies an SDK at request, with each camera you can also grab the activeX and put that in ANY application you want. In fact the ActiveX that comes along with any of the Geo DVRs also works for the IP cameras and servers - and vice versa. So yes, it is open, not closed. So yes its not Geovision's fault that their competition does not include the Geo IP cameras and Servers in their apps, they simply choose not to for whatever reason.

using lower bar, gangbox on top side, camera underneath, mount camera to gang box. connections in the gang box. just theory.

yeah it works good actually .. dont have one myself but used them on occasion .. i work on alot of home computers btw .. worst one was 3" or so of dust could barely make out it was a computer inside .. and a dead rat caught in the exhaust fan wait though there was another bad one, had puddles of dog pee inside which kind of dampened the dust ... now that was nasty .. rat droppings also .. ewwww!!

our dust down here laughs at those things I just use a vaccum most the time (being careful not to suck up any dipswitches) leave blower also works. or theres a local store with a real compressed air machine that charges $10.
-
The question was whether GeoVision cameras will work with non-GeoVision software. Why look for other software? Because there's lots out there that's better. Geo's NVR is much cheaper than others though. But yeah stuck with them if you use their cameras, but its not their fault really as they have the SDK (and the activeX comes with the cameras) so its up to other software developers (their competition) whether or not to include their cameras.

or every few months blow the case out and every couple years change the $30 heatsink? ive come to the conclusion there is really nothing to stop the dust, unless the case is 100% sealed tight it will still get dust no matter what. And if it were 100% sealed tight then along comes the heat. And boy does it get hot down here .. 10 months a year!
