  1. Why not use the client software? Browser application for DVRs is generally not as good.
  2. Its an AvTech DVR It used to be Java and ActiveX mixed though, not sure about the quicktime. Either way worst quality over the network Ive ever seen from any DVR.
  3. As mentioned, there are lease times. Basically in my case I can power down the cable modem all day long and it wont make a difference, they still using the same MAC address from the router and the lease time still applies. When I want a new IP, I power down the Cable Modem, then in the router I release the DHCP from the ISP, then i manually change the MAC address, power up the Cable Modem after 3 minutes and then renew the DHCP from the ISP in the router - thats the only way I can get a new IP from the ISP without waiting for the least time to expire. So no just a power outage wont necessarily cause the IP to change. Duriing the Summer months we get power outages almost every day, never had an effect.

    hello everybody, need help, please

For the cost of 2 tracking PTZs you could put in some decent fixed cameras to cover the area, add in a good alarm system with some optex beams, loud sirens, strobes, and call it a day. All that and then not have 2 to worry about a motor going bad from too much movement.
  5. Yeah DVR cards act alot diff from Video cards and modems ... with laptops we normally use USB devices .. still not great as the software normally sucks. .. in fact that said I have a $6 4-ch USB DVR device coming from Amazon to test .. I had to make up a balance on the account while ordering some other things so figured why not .. I could try maybe Luxriot with it, or even Milestone free if that works with cards.
  6. okay let us know But i would imagine most DVR cards, least the more expensive ones, might encounter issues. They can have issues with regular PCI slots let alone a separate docking station, for example with Geovision we never installed it in the first PCI slot, different bandwidth requirements perhaps, whatever Im no expert in PCI slots. I used a green WD drive with Geo and it wont work properly, switch out to any other NON green drive and the problem goes away meanwhile the same green drive works fine on a home PC ... some DVR cards and their drivers/software are just a little more tricky .. How is this docking station connected?
  7. A DVR Card on a laptop with a docking station? That would explain it. Please explain this configuration a little more as DVR cards are designed to be placed in a PCI/e slot on a motherboard not a docking station. It sounds like this docking station is an extra piece of hardware put into the equation that is out of the ordinary. BTW I dont use Avermedia myself, but for other reasons.
  8. You cant recommend it because a 3rd party app wont work with it? Its not Avermedia's responsibility to work for unknown software programs. Otherwise, why was it crashing? Were the default drivers installed? What kind of computer and OS was this on. Cant just say it is useless and crashes without giving a little more info please.

Im using some cheap chinese meter Ive had for the past several years, takes a beating and keeps on going .. had to change the leads once, was cheaper than buying a new meter. Its not small but big enough to hold in the hand .. has everything I need for Alarms and CCTV.
  10. A more expensive camera may help, better light handling with or without Auto Iris, though ofcourse if going that route get one with Auto Iris. Dont necessarily need WDR though. What are the specs of the camera you have now?
  11. We build the DVRs from scratch, and use them only as a DVR. I doubt its running better from actually having Windows 7 though, XP was probably just never setup properly or overloaded with things. As for memory, we have systems in the field with 1GB memory and others on the forum I read even had them with 512MB (probably old versions like 6.0) ... But yes the more memory the better for Geo, its a memory hog (like Win7) always has been but even more so now with the 8.3 and higher.
  12. Hi, will need the firmware version from the DVR itself. Also you could PM me the IP, will also need a temporary user and pass to login. Will be back on later today Rory
  13. Yeah the card or even the pigtails. Are these the pigtails that came with it? Also are you trying to extend the pigtails at all with any kind of VGA cable - Ive had similar video before when trying that with Geo. And make sure you are using the correct format for your area, eg. PAL or NTSC.
  14. Wont have any effect on whats out there right now, HTML5 video is still rather new and we can just use mp4 viewers instead like we do now such as JWplayer. Most h.264 DVRs dont have any stream like that outside of ActiveX anyway. And as the codecs are custom anyway they wont work inside the browser without a plugin unless its in some other basic form like jpeg.
  15. Try the card in a totally different computer. What are you using to power the cameras? Does this problem occur if not connected to the DVR?
  16. I emailed the admin to let him know. No issues with my account yet. But got a PM from another member earlier on about the same issue.
  17. 1 block wall will likely stop it, drywall is more like a partition than a wall Ive used the high powered wireless down here that claim the same thing, lucky if it went through 1 wall .. everything is brick down here. I learnt the hard expensive way, what works in America rarely ever works here Also remember anything with water will hold it back like a human body as well as fridges, stoves, washers, AC duct (aluminum), computer cases, monitors, etc. I would agree if a house is all sheetrock walls then should be fine except for the occasional downtime but down here where most are brick inside and out ... wireless just doesnt kick it .. even the wireless routers have issues getting through 1 wall though I get them through 2 normally with much lowered signal then its all over. Wireless alarms have the same issue here and they arent even pushing video. If you want wireless that punches through walls though its 900mhz.
  18. what type of walls though?
  19. One of my customers told me today that one of his friends had paid 15k for their 4 cam system. I cant imagine why it would cost this much. But anyone who pay this much for a 4 camera system is crazy IMO. back in the day $4-6K or so was normal for a 4 channel .. before the market got flooded with chinese gear still if you do 4 panos now and a big brand DVR .. like $800+ per camera end user price + $1500+ for the DVR .. plus labour plus accessories etc ... now $15K in this day and age .. well i guess it could be megapixel? huge megapixel or flir??

    Unknown Dahua

What size is it and does it have HDMI? Size being 1U, 2U, etc. They only have a few models and firmware. I updated the firmware on one I got from a US Distributor by going direct to Dahua's online support.

    Man that was stupid.

Maybe it was a cheap chinese connector? Thats the only ones Ive ever had issues with. I imagine the people that have had issues with them in the past never used a good connector. Twist on is the bomb hawg I use them religiously .. works great every single time infact all the time I remove all the messed up crimped ones the other morons around here put on thinking it makes them professionals meanwhile they dont have a clue.
  22. Not really. It would be more beneficial to them if we were to point you in the direction of another industry if this is the way you feel, and direct them to someone that does this business every day of the week. Most of us live this industry, eat, sleep and you know ... its our entire life. If you arent in the industry yet then you really should learn some more about it first, get out there and get some hands on experience, see if its something you even want to do first. Pick up a drill and learn how to use it, you WILL need it if you want to compete even in the budget jobs - I do alot of budget jobs and with most applications cameras still need to be mounted on surfaces which require drilling holes. If you dont want to do that, then at least factor in the cost to sub the work out. Otherwise one still needs to know how to use cutters and a screwdriver and the basic electronics at the least. Cheap or 2nd hand PCs with cheap DVR cards will not a stable quality system make - yes they CAN work, and in cases of extreme poverty it is all some can afford - but they need to realize it is still just a piece of crap and may and most likely will crash frequently. Dont expect the cameras to be much to write home about either, if lucky you might find something "okay" but in 99% of cases they are not even worth mentioning. We test ALOT of cameras to find something that works "good enough" in most cases, and even then they get discontinued or can have issues in certain applications. IMO one should start learning the high quality more expensive cameras first, learn the basics of focusing and setup of cameras under different lighting conditions. In any event I think with your above statement you probably wont find too many eager to assist. First you need to show them you are ready and willing to learn with hands on and not just expecting to jump right in thinking it is a walk in the park.
  23. They already have this, its called cheap consumer kits. Also being in the IT industry does not automatically mean one can build and setup a DVR, a business or home PC is completely different.
