  1. These type of cameras are really not worth considering unless one is totally broke .. they are like $2 toys from china being sold on amazon for $10. If you want something small and discreet which is still inexpensive, that actually gives a decent picture, check out the line of KT&C Mini Cube Cameras. Sony CCD 1/3" 550TVL available for example. They basically have alot of options. IN fact we use their mini BW bullets in the night clubs here, cant see them even if they tried.

New Build - Win 7 or XP

I thought Win7 was cheaper now? Id go XP anyway as its just better: faster, lighter, smaller, proven. That said as XP slowly goes off the scene Im getting ready .. 2011 is the year that I will start switching all my XP clients to Linux as its just that good now, it blows away the lastest Windows OS and crushes the latest Mac.

    How much is too much

that said i just quoted a job at $100 a camera, or more like 2 hours at $75 per hour for a single camera depends on the client and the camera .. but most here dont want to pay $300 for the whole thing installed so imagine when you tell them the labour is more than $300!! I took several calls last week where the people were like huh i ga go get dat $300 alarm install instead den .. and even then they try get them down on that price . .. anyway ... I normally charge $75 per camera for regular cameras .. had to drop to $50 per camera with these cheap clients now ... just gotta feel them out and see what they will pay without them walking away to someone else .. $50 a camera is money either way and every penny counts!
  4. Shouldnt make a difference in speed, just means you can use more memory so if it goes over 3GB then wont start paging to the HDD like 32bit with a max of 3GB. Processor should be same speed, etc. In fact id go as far as to say its could be more trouble than its worth, right now anyway. Either way for example XP 32 bit is tried and proven, cant speak for Windows 7 as I dont use it for DVRs but its still new compared to XP, and a much slower larger more complicated OS. As long as XP is still available and works I will use that.

    Power Supply Help

fuses dont have to pop, the LEDs just wont come on if there isnt enough amps. It requires 1.3amps with LED on. With the extremes I used in the past without enough amps the entire camera would go out until the day time.

    How much is too much

http://www.myvouchercodes.co.uk/vouchersprintable/Mcdonald+Food+Vouchers/0 Do that might as well go on the dole and get free healthcare also none of that exists here!
  7. Yep that is true, in fact going by this spec alone would make it a clone: Resolution-640x480/640x240/320x240 Resolution The real Geovision has had D1 for a few years now
  8. Run away from those cameras! SHARP is rubbish. From the image and the specs its a Geovision GV1240 1GB memory and Windows 7 not a great idea as it will be paging to the hard drive alot with Geovision .. with Geovision you want at least 2GB memory, more memory the better. Overall Geo is solid software, newer recent versions requires a really fast computer though. The CPU should be okay, but core2 would be better. The Geo card is what racks that price up, for your first Geovision system you might be better off with just a GV800 or even a GV650 for 8 channels, unless you are a casino or traffic application. The 1240 wont be 240fps in D1 anyway. Yes sorry online store links are removed.

    How much is too much

I would do it cheaper, $250 for a 4 channel Install with drop tile, simple 3 hour job. Tell them call me I will gladly come and handle it. Heck im doing a 8 camera install for $600 and its concrete 2 storey building. Ofcourse though I need the money so I dont overcharge like others, If I did they WOULD just go somewhere else and I wouldnt eat tonight. But if you can get them to pay that amount or dont mind loosing some jobs then go for it.
  10. Yeah but with 2 drives they have to be 5400 rpm without the power upgrade.

    Man that was stupid.

maybe it loosened the video cable from the camera? check it out. You could have just used the cat5 BTW then split it back to coax on the inside of the wall. Instead of drilling a bigger hole for the coax. I got a couple of my cameras here at my place like that, just a foot of cat5 then its back to coax (in 1 case as the camera cable was cut too short by its previous owner leaving just an inch of cable, the other is when I did it I didnt have a thick enough drill bit and was 3am in the morning so no stores open ) but yeah drilling into a tight hole with existing cable will reak havoc on that cable .. I tried it myself one time by connecting a really thin piece of wire like 24g to the siamese and pushing it back into the hole leaving a piece of the 24g hanging out .. ha ha ha it totally wrapped up around the drill bit on the first couple small turns, so much for that idea - but like you I knew better .. just HAD to try it anyway as the alternative was more work.

    CNB 605 D/N + WDR mode problem

Why didnt you get the blue-i with the Eclipse feature?
  14. Do you have any shots with it in night mode under low light? Thanks.
  15. Pretty much, especially for clients. Though Ive done it for one of my own cameras in the past was supposed to just be a temporary thing, and the connector made it quite a few years even with some corrosion from being right on the beach. Id never leave power exposed though.

    Good quality IR camera

What camera do you have now?
  20. Oh yeah if you want to stop it recording for now .. Pull the plug, remove the hard drive, put it on the side for safe keeping, and plug in another old hard drive just to get it back up for now. It will normally keep rebooting without a hard drive installed.

  22. The storesafe's I used in the past had the Nucleus RTOS but the newer model you have may have changed, eitherway: http://www.acceleratedtechnology.com.tw/embedded/nuc_rtos.html http://www.acceleratedtechnology.com.tw/embedded/nuc_file.html Its been so long since i used them I cant recall if they autoformat or not. Best bet is to contact GE though and have the firmware version to give to them.
