    Shutter Speed 30mph

That would be much darker at night though? If so have you played with the gamma? Yeah I just downloaded and played back some video from a VCM-24VF on the road and there is blur as the cars pass, makes it kind of look like the whole image is temporarily out of focus well except for one side which is on the sidewalk, in this case though we masked off the street as only want to get the people on the sidewalk and that part is really clear. They have alot of light so I wonder if I should go down there and knock it up to 1/125 ... hmmm .. bout now I wish that camera had the remote adjustments ... cause its right in the heart of the ghetto.

    Shutter Speed 30mph

No problems with the CNB's here on DC and we have sun year round also Did you make sure the IRIS level was adjusted for your conditions? Though I havent had to adjust that on them yet either.I havent touched the shutter speeds.
  3. 720x480 NTSC or 720x576 PAL = D1 resolution
  4. Actually this has changed. Check out the new Pano chip, and the new Sony Effio series. Both have higher effective pixels. 976 (H) x 494 (V) But yes, 99% of those so called 600-700TVL cameras are scarcely different from the older 480TVL cameras. Heck, I've seen a few 420TVL cameras that people are claiming 600+ on. True .. my bad But still the DVR cant handle more than 720x480 NTSC
  5. Maybe I'm using a different type of DVR, but the I've got a 4 channel system that records 700 lines just fine. If you don't need anything too specific then lower resolutions are fine, but you can't pick up on certain details unless you have that 700 line camera. I wouldn't go out and spend twice what the 400 camera costs to get a 700 line camera, but I could see the value in spending more to get the higher resolution. If you had a nearly-identifiable image from a 400tvl camera, and you know that you could have identified them if you had a 700tvl camera, would you wish you had gotten the 700 to begin with? 700 lines or 700 pixels wide? Big diff. A 480TVL camera can be 811x508 total pixels also by the way, but the DVRs still dont record over 720x480 or even 704x480 if you count the missing 8 pixels on each side of some.
  6. Look at where all the 700TVL cameras are coming from, mostly. Anyway, its the same total effective pixels as a 480TVL, and ive seen clearer 480TVL 10 years ago than some of the current 650TVL .. Its all marketing hype, thats the bottom line.

    Neighborhood CCTV

Hi Birdman Adam. standard lens calculations are for field of view. standard lens. the REG-X and the rest have a Black lens it cant see field of view its there to look for reflections from its IR reflecting back. if you stand infront of the camera it will not see you at all but it will pick-up reflection from your watch or belt buckle. Black lens or black cover? The REG-L i used in the past had a black cover. this REG-L could see things. Its basically just a dark tinted cover and IR for night to bring out the reflective objects, and a standard BW camera.
  8. going by the image you posted, looking at it as it is. there are 3 x wires. top one is power. middle one is video. bottom one is audio Now if the thing has a jack you can maybe check the colors in the jack based on which way that connector would plug into it (if you had it). So at least you will know which is which, except the ground and positive for power unless it is red and black. Thats ofcourse if that Mace converter is made for that camera.
  9. Yes it would appear they share the same ground, most board cameras do, Ive done this before in the past. Ive even had to share the audio ground before also. But in this case it seems it has its own? Anyway, do this all at your own risk as I have not used this camera.

    Looking at cheap dvr's

4CIF is just cropped D1 as 8 pixels on either side are sometimes not used anyway. Some manufacturers call 4CIF D1 anyway, guess it just sounds better.
  11. Have a look at Optex Beams. Depending on the DVR you could use them to trigger recording.

    cctv remote viewing help

If it is a static IP, you need to enter that along with the other information they give you into the router setup so it uses that IP - IP, Subnet, Gateway, DNS.

    cctv remote viewing help

The first way you did it was correct - the DVR needs a local IP and forward the ports to that in the router. Except the routers normally use 8080 so you would need to change that in your DVR and forward that new port instead. Your IP will change if you dont have a static IP. Otherwise you could sign up for a free DDNS name with something like DynDns.com - check the router for which DDNS service it supports, as you would then enter that info into the router's DDNS section.

    Looking at cheap dvr's

That DVR you posted records in low resolution CIF only. The Atom in my post refers to the Intel Atom CPU not a DVR. That $130 is more like over $200 retail.

    HDD failures

Do you have these systems on Voltage Regulators or UPS with AVR? If not then the likelihood of HDD failure is high depending on where you live.
  16. Rory I have to agree with Soundy on this one. I could care less what you agree with, how about the personal attacks stop now. I dont find things like that funny.
  17. The topic is not about me, please stay on topic.
  18. Actually you are wrong and that is slander. Please quit it and start to act like a mod and not a little child.

    best camera for $75

It can see at night, just cant see Infrared, nor can it see as much due to not only having a fixed IR cut filter but its lux level is also not that low. It still does an okay job though: In this image I could not see well to walk, due to how dark it is, though its not night yet. This is the DFL-20s. I generally only used them for applications with alot of light so didnt do any real low light testing yet. But yeah take out the IR cut filter, loose the good colors, but you will see more at night

    best camera for $75

Yeah the colors off because they dont have and IR cut filter as I thought. That CNB is nice but it generally costs around $100 while the varifocal one with settings is only a few dollars more. I use the indoor version of that the DFL-20s and works great for the price. Anyway no IR cut filter thats also why those 2 bullets are seeing more at night. I took the IR cut (broke it actually LOL) out of my TDN bullet here and right away can see how much more it sees at night in dark conditions. IR Cut vs None: Another view .. top left camera no IR Cut, top right is the cheap color bullet we use with IR cut. bottom left has IR cut, bottom right is old BW bullet. i think this illustrates why I like the color bullet with the IR cut filter so much more needs alot of light at night though ... Here is the cheap Color IR bullet I use right now .. no ir cut but has basic IR and 3.6mm 1/3"
  21. Yeah I noticed the processor though still 1.3ghz .. to warp speed of 1.8 Also it comes with something that resembles a rubber laptop keypad.
  22. Yeah but for that price tag you could get an even better laptop with a near normal keyboard. Ive been using my original 701 eee pc to adjust cameras in the field for a while now BTW .. so lite only need 2 fingers, and unlike the newer netbooks it can take falls from 10-12 feet to concrete and tile without breaking or cracking .. no HDD either. Anyway, lets hope the Slate is faster than their other Win 7 netbooks/Tablets cause that OS needs a real fast system and those ones are just slow as heck. Also wonder what the battery life is like .. recall they had the netbook with 9 hours of battery on sale sometime the year before last for under $200 .. then after they discontinued it their new netbooks were all junk - even their recent laptop/tablets were junk also - maybe this will be the Asus comeback? Personally I cant use a tablet anyway, I need a keyboard, touch is too slow for my needs, but I guess for basic stuff and entertainment it will work. At least it has everything the ipad doesnt have
  23. in the case of this DVR no, it only affects the Recorded and the Live Network video.
  24. They dont make them, Dahua is the real manufacturer. Yes, I already downloaded all the watchnet software, thats why I said it is an older version software of the same Dahua software I have here. Specs on the DVR are identical also. 1.) Would I benifit from a newer software version? 2.) Could I even do that upgrade with my DVR? 3.) I may buy another DVR because I can easily install 32 cameras around my farm. If I did buy another, what wuold be your recommendations? 1-probably wont fix the issue you have here, have you set the encoding to D1? Also what is the bitrate at? Send me the IP and login via PM and I could test the PSS network software with it if you want, or you can download the new PSS software and test it yourself. Im not really seing anything much wrong with the image you posted except its very low quality, hard to tell without seeing a video clip. Here is the latest PSS software, either way its just the network software, cant harm it. You may need to change the port from dahua DVR's default 37777 to whatever port their version of the DVR is using: http://www.dahuasecurity.com/upload/General_PSS_Eng_IS_V4.04.0.R.101104.rar 2-A firmware upgrade? Perhaps. You would need to get the version number and verify that with Dahua to find out what model and which one it is first. They only have I think 3 firmwares on their site. I took the chance when I did mine .. as mine is also OEMd out to a US brand .. it worked though, but was not much different. You need to find the bios version number. 3-I use these DVRs for now so I can recommend them but in the US they are OEMd and can Look different. There are better DVRs out there though I am sure, these are generally considered Lower end, though Dahua (and their OEM partners) has a more advanced Enterprise unit.
