IP camera question acti 1231
rory replied to JohnEF's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Truth, right there. However, the LEDs in the Acti 1231 can be unplugged: Yeah but like most current TDN IR bullets does that also disable the Day Night feature? Eg. many will stay in BW if you do that now and never switch over. -
My Wonderful (so far) Experience with Samsung SDE-120N
rory replied to Liber8or's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Yeah I dont use the browser myself, especially not IE unless im testing an activeX or need to grab the files for one for some reason. I like to use the more powerful desktop app but I also understand many just want to see an image and that is a good option, some of the PC DVrs have that option also but many of the other stand alones seem to use a separate Iphone or Android app so no image for them this is what I like to use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQxk8nXKxqQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-MQ5ZIb0h0 -

Yeah I noticed that also about the BNCs. I just skimmed through the manual, it still uses an ActiveX for the main browser app, called Webviewer which requires the whole IE and security settings thing in fact they dedicate a few pages of the user manual just to installing the ActiveX LOL, but it also has (according to the manual) a basic image refresh for the Iphone so using Chrome you are probably connecting to the same thing right? -

Integrated camera cables can be more of a flaw, normally very low quality and problematic not to mention in most cases you are stuck buying their cameras which are limited. Works in Chrome, Id like to hear more about that though Edit. Ok going through the specs: 4 Max Network connections - a little limited but not that big a deal unless you're giving the IP out to everyone. Not multistream so it probably uses the same encoding the recording does, no big deal most budget DVRs are like that. Does backup right to AVI which is nice, many still use proprietary which means 1 more process to convert to AVI. Most of the other specs are found in most of the new out of China DVRs these days, not the really really basic ones though like that one you had before LOL. The cameras seem better than the typical consumer ones also. Overall seems like the specs are good. -

Nobody uses wireless here except for locally through routers, its not even a thought yet, its cable or nothing basically. Ofcourse cell phone users use some kind of wireless but I wouldnt know about that.
-
I'm not so sure. Clearly you could never do backbones over wireless but if for the avg consumer, we're already well into that with smartphones, tablets and laptops. Yeah for the average user, but with video it can still be a lag, dependent on the connection. Also, I cant count how many times people call me about they cant connect or they connected to someone elses network and its slow, or something is blocking the signal, etc etc . Wireless can be a real pain sometimes, while wired just works.

i pay $70 a month no static ip. includes basic cable TV which I dont even watch anymore. we get around 384 up and 2mb down. Thats high speed for here since DSL is around 64-128 up and 1mb down even for the $100 a month business account.

Tutorial: Watch cctv remotely. Even with no networking
rory replied to johnty's topic in Computers/Networking
I think it is aimed more as an option, such as when you are in a webcafe .you dont have to install ActiveX controls or any software. Typically wont see the live video on a PC DVR with a remote desktop/vnc, but also cant remote desktop or vnc into a stand alone DVR unless it has that software for it. -
I dont think wireless will ever replace a wire
-
So Sean is talking specifically about wireless?
-
Isnt 4G for mobile phones? Cable is our high speed internet here, it is a monopoly though, much like the government owned telco which supplies the limited and slower DSL. However they just sold the Telco company to "Cable and Wireless" and so now that it is privatized perhaps they will have more options. Apparently in 3 years others will be allowed to enter the market and that hopefully will do away with the monopolies once and for all.

Name That Compression!!!

there is also loss in quality during the conversion to youtube's mp4, I found facebook does a much better job at the conversion, but I dont like to link to that as facebook video has limitations. So much so I decided to just host mine on my own site for now: Eg: Low quality video to begin with but shows the difference: look at the BW camera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utspe2XBCBY http://www.bahamassecurity.com/player/?q=/files/private/video/Geovision%20GV800%20Night%20Quad.mp4 -
Ive seen that with 2 things, an unsupported chipset and a Cloned Card with hacked drivers. Are you certain this card is legit? it should look something like this: Could also just be a bad motherboard or some limitation in the bios. If any Geo card is going to stand the chance of running on different chipsets it is the 600.

My Problems with QSee QR-414 DVR Package
rory replied to Liber8or's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Yeah, normally what I do is sell the device and buy another one, saves on labour charges -
Did you ask him what he did? Send one of us the IP to test?

Say what??? rainx and caulking?

also how does it tell the difference between firecrackers, backfiring from vehicles, extremely loud exhausts from both cars and even worse from motorbikes (down here they all have exhausts to make your head explode), and base from the music in cars the kind of base that makes your windows rattle in your home as they pass a hundred feet away. Not to mention most gun shots go off in areas one would never put such an expensive camera, though i guess this is specifically for certain location like a mall parking lot. I like the bit about the response team though, we normally see the cops an hour or so after an incident, if we are lucky, ambulances take about 1-2 hours to turn up also. I guess it would work well in the perfect little neighborhood, the kind that doesnt get much gun shots to begin with.

I guess that will work in a perfect world, or a controlled environment.
