  1. all this arguing over staff stealing .. which dont get me wrong is a HUGE problem here also .. but what about the guys that come in with the machine guns and masks over their faces? They wont be taking $10 they will be taking the whole register. Otherwise, in a case here though regarding the register they just have cameras zoomed right in on it, so they can see the money in the drawer and the register's display, something is up they just go back to that time and look at the register camera.
  2. most of the bars and clubs down here are still using a Canadian DOS based version of a liquor control system called AzBar. They do have newer versions and Windows POS but the clients here just arent willing to spend what it costs to upgrade all the boards/chips. Im still having to mess with Win98 it is so annoying especially with new hardware and lack of drivers for 98 and having to deal with Serial ports in 98 along with brown outs that keep frying them .. then cant get any PCI serial port cards or USB serial port adapters to work in 98 anymore due to lack of all the motherboard drivers. Ok rant over .. so yeah how old is that again
  3. No need to get overly complicated. The claim is that H.264 captures the same detail as MJPEG. I propose the following simple test. Pick your favorite H.264 camera. Drive the same vehicle at the same speed through the field of view at night. Capture the scene using MJPEG and then again using H.264. Grab the best image from each codec and post them. Let us see if indeed H.264 can capture the same detail. Best, Christopher everyone knows MJpeg is better quality in general.

    New setup - GV600(S) on Optiplex 210L

what version geo came with the card originally? chipset is intel on that dell.
  5. Not for me .. i'd use a remote client first... but either way it is another option, especially for non Windows users. Ive seen the same on other sites also like Justin.tv, quality is always very low though.

    Custom GUI 8.3xx

I havent messed with anything since 7.xx as I havent had a Geo card here long enough to do so.
  8. Yeah 4 years is still old though, but the 2.8 should run most software at least better than the celeron model. So now I dont think its that. What is your screen resolution set to? What size is the monitor? Is there anything from this DVR program listed in the Windows event logs? Another thing is to test DirectX, goto run and type in dxdiag, run all the tests for video then let us know what it reports. For example inside something like Virtual Box you will get DirectX errors as it is using hacked versions of the files customized specially for that virtual environment, some DVR network apps would fail to run in that case, or produce an error - nothing to do with your case just an example. Do you have at least DirectX 9 installed? Can you try the card and software in another PC? If you like, download and run this exe I created some time ago, it will produce a text based report on some of the hardware such as the motherboard, Bios, and Video - and post the results here. http://bahamassecurity.com/dvrreport.exe to post it here, while in the text report goto edit, select all, edit, copy, then right click paste into a message here.
  9. In many cases these days the DVR isnt even that bad, also the DVR is only 30fps recording max, meaning 1-2fps per camera. The camera specs are questionable. Its a low res narrow view being a 1/4" 3.6 mm ... for comparison.

    Avigilon Software

I DONT like companies like that. I have no way to test their products, so to me they are useless. What is stopping you from testing their products? You are a dealer you can request a demo. They like most probably will not send Demos outside of North America.

How about SONY Effio E 650TVL camera?

I just want a cheap low res BW Exview Bullet camera and Im good to go On topic of Effio, what are the effective pixels of the 650TVL? If its more than or same as what we have now in the 480-650TVL cameras, average 768x494 pixels, we are already over the limit of DVRs. Also if cheap cameras are going to become more expensive and see less in low light due to higher res, then perhaps the move to an all IP system would be more feasible.
  13. they are all Jpeg compression
  14. Are you saying with just 2 cameras it does not freeze? Anyway, I would look at the hard drive. The onboard video on most modern chipsets is sufficient.
  15. Been through the WZs Bullets myself in the past, ended up giving or throwing them away, their domes were the worst though. Had bad luck with at least 2 of the CNB TDN IR Bullets including their base TDN and one of the more expensive ones (3 times the cost). Wont be using them again any time soon, but their Domes are great (most anyway like the V#M-##VF models). Looking at a KT&C bullet right now which has similar specs to the CNB Domes with a 2.8-12mm lens, 600TVL, full OSD features, dual voltage, plus IR, its the N500 - they have a couple other versions like the N700 which has a heater. On paper the N500 has the specs, whether it performs or not I have yet to test it to find out. On that note I used a Vitek recently which was listed on their own site as saying it is a TDN with IR cut filter but it was not. Watch out for specs as they arent always what they seem to be, especially if you arent buying a camera from an actual manufacturer (eg. CNB and KT&C are actual manufacturers). Dont go for the cheapest as its normally that way for a reason, these days expect to spend almost double the cost of a TDN Vandal dome for a TDN IR Bullet thats any good.
  16. Yeah, I wondered that too, but it appears as though the registration is already off a bit. Too bad it can't "learn" to improve registration. Over the next decade, I expect we will see some very impressive auto tracking. Best, Christopher As opposed to running a tour or pattern or auto-scan 24/7? yeah, did you see the way that camera is moving? I just cant see the average PTZ lasting too long with all that violent movement.

MAC O/S and DVR's remote view

Many PC DVRs support that. Meanwhile here is a Stand Alone DVR: (already went through this on this same thread) http://www.bahamassecurity.com/gallery/?DVR-Dahua sold in the US under various names: XTSVideo (where I get mine, distributor sales) Intellicam USA Mace Security (only certain model/s) Q-See (only certain model/s) http://www.dahuasecurity.com/download.aspx?p=fwyxz&p_kind=4&c_kind=17&c_kind2=139 they also have iphone apps dependent on the model, the OEMs above also have their own customized apps.

Over the next decade, I expect we will see some very impressive auto tracking. Best, Christopher Geovisions has had software based PTZ tracking with certain PTZs for a few years now, seen it in action a while back .. I think it was Bosch that had the actual Auto Tracking PTZs .. but still with alot of motion I dont expect either will last that long. Though the software solution with a real cheap PTZ might be kind of worth it incase it has to be chucked. But with MP cameras out now perhaps that is a better way to go, no motor to go bad.
  19. Wonder how long its motor will last with it doing that 24/7?

MAC O/S and DVR's remote view

I guessed that might be the case. One of the features I prefer in a DVR/NVR is ability to use a web browser without any plug-ins, which increases the odds you can use any web browser, including a web browser in a hotel lobby or a smart phone. Best, Christopher only way then is to just have a jpeg on the sever that gets updated, and use a meta refresh to see the changes. otherwise server push etc still needs javascript. Im at the other side of it, if it doesnt have a client app, I dont want to go near it. Running something inside something else, a browser, is just too limiting for my needs.

    GeoVision Fisheye Camera - Video

Well in the case of 8.32 i had the SDK as it was available on the web, and that contained everything in a folder including its own setup.exe to register everything and it creates its own folders. Before I came across the SDK I just made it by checking the dependencies, I throw everything into the system 32 folder basically. In fact I dont use 8.32's activeX anyway for my software, I went back to 7.0's which works for at least up to 8.3xx, and its much lighter and faster than the 8.3xx activeX controls. If you will be using Internet Explorer though the files have to go into their default folder locations, which is generally sub folders under System32. Personally I run my software now with the dependencies in the app's path but its just for testing for now. I used Inno Setup to make a single EXE. http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php Here is the script as an example, where a sub folder called GeoOCX contained all the files. http://www.BahamasSecurity.com/8320.iss (opens with notepad but need Inno to compile it)
  22. not here, $250+ for a 2TB drive, almost $200 for a 1 TB drive. Paid $130 for a 500GB drive the other day. them violins arent cheap either
  23. As long as its an IP camera There's other wireless technology available for regular CCTV cameras. As mentioned wireless is not as easy as it sounds.
