to be somewhat fair to Geo, still nothing much works on Mac. Some cheap DVRs that do such as Dahua only recently came out with an App for Mac, but going by the slow response time of the GUI and video it seems to just be the windows app packaged into an emulator. Others might have some basic java or image push script. I think the complaint in that particular regard should go a little more towards Apple. If they would be more "open" with developers then it might help sway them to develop for their OS. Most developers arent willing to spend the money on a stripped down linux system with so many limitations. to spend alot of time developing for a computer that the majority of their customers dont use. To develop for the iphone for example one needs to have a Mac. For the Android OS on the other hand there is a free emulator that is cross OS. Also the video method is different so they would have to rewrite it for the Mac from scratch, eg. no directdraw (AFAIK). That said, Geo is so heavy these days. When will developers, probably alot of new ones, or perhaps they are just that rich, realize most people still dont have super computers. Me, Ive been developing my program on a 600mhz netbook. So it flies on a P4 3.Ghz let alone a new Dual Core.

Consumer grade VS Professional grade - Whats the difference?
rory replied to Toaster's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I dont know guys, most of that which was mentioned is already available in these cheap DVRs now such as from Dahua - also sold under names like Intellicam. CMS, POS, PTZ, Alarms, HDMI, etc. As they use the same software etc as their more expensive models, same stuff some of the big brands are just rebadging. As mentioned extra customizing is done in alot of the bigger brand names for certain applications, but that doesnt mean they are more professional, just geared more towards certain apps. Ive had this DVR now going non stop no reboot for like 5 weeks .. and its HOT in here, and ive been pounding the network server all day and night messing with the SDK from the manufacturer - my computers been crashin for sure with all kind of memory conflicts as I make errors in code, but the DVR still ticks along. I think its definitely passed the test of reliability, so far. Also motion detection video is unreliable no matter where it comes from. Yeah they have their cons but so does a $5000 DVR. But yeah the consumer DVRs are budget DVRs anyway so dont expect much to begin with. And there is still alot of junk out there in the consumer world also, but they are getting better. On that note I tested some Samsung software lately and it sucked, supposedly for some expensive gear also, but it was some of the most awful software Ive used in a long time. Oh yeah another thing, some manufacturers are making special lower priced units of their more budget models, just for the consumer market, but even with those they are the same thing but for example minus POS, Alarm, and HDMI. As a dealer I can buy both, for example with the 4 channel unit from Dahua, its only a $50 difference. But the consumer market is stuck with just the basic unit. But hey most home and small business users dont need POS, Alarm and HDMI anyway. -
D1 @ 7fps OR CIF @ 30fps? Which is Better--is Bigger better?
rory replied to Toaster's topic in Digital Video Recorders
wait this is not the same DVR now right? Could be different then. -
Oh wait, so you're talking about this other model in the thread regarding encoding etc? That would be different then as its a totally different brand

I just went through the settings and that seems to be how this one is too.

D1 @ 7fps OR CIF @ 30fps? Which is Better--is Bigger better?
rory replied to Toaster's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Ive done everything from defaults to fireware updates and although it says it is CBR its still encoding everything with a VBR, with artifacts. Although maybe thats how they are, maybe their CBR is not really 100% CBR, perhaps its the codec they use. -
D1 @ 7fps OR CIF @ 30fps? Which is Better--is Bigger better?
rory replied to Toaster's topic in Digital Video Recorders
The main network stream is the same as the encoded settings, if you are set to record at D1 7fps thats what it streams, sub stream is an option, I guess for really slow connections. I ONLY use the main stream, works great and is good quality. The substream is not enough for my needs. In my software Im not even including the substream either, I leave it on the main stream all day long here -

Is that at a custom setting? That seems pretty high, you may want to set it a little lower to see if you notice any difference to see if you can save on some hard-drive space. I dont notice too much of a difference between 2048 and the lower 1000's, but I am sure the differences are variable on certain DVR's. You may want to play with it to see what that "sweet spot" bit rate is on your DVR where you get at a certain level of Bit Rate and you dont see much of a difference whenever you increase it. Basically, you want to set it at the lowest you can get away with without sacrificing quality. What bit rate do you have your internet stream at? the bitrate setting allows higher bitrates as you increase the FPS, in D1 at least. Eg on channel 1 at D1 it allows 30fps, so you can set the bitrate as high as 4096. But I just tested that and it went from 400kbps (1024 bitrate) to around 3000 kbps on the network software. -

rory replied to Toaster's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Well then I'm screwed already. Because out of the box the quality setting (which you can not change in CBR) was set to HIGH (not higher or highest) so I changed to VBR to change it to highest, then changed them all back to CBR. Right now at 15FPS D1 files are about 9-10mb a minute. Is that high? with CBR the quality setting is already highest. As far as I know. I too went that route to VBR and the quality settings but it only made it worse! Like streaming video over websites where it has artifacts. -
Need Help With An IR Illuminator MIR-3000
rory replied to akrh125's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
according to the label on the wire, red is + and orange is - so use the color code on the black and white adaptor, does it say + and - on it? Like many CNB products the 12VDC may be non polorized meaning you can connect it to either side, but check the manual first please so you dont blame me if it fries As for the other wires, I noticed on one of their IR bullets there were some wires that were not used, just for future use, in your photo one or two of them seem to be for going to something like one of their Day Night domes, either for the IR's photocell to trigger the camera to switch or vice versa, I know their 24VFs have that setting in their OSD. Note sure though as I dont have the manual here for this IR. As for the IR photocell, just dont let alot of light hit it directly. -

What do you mean? Professionals are using the same DVRs now Really it just means some of their DVRs they are using are of better quality than they use to be. They do sell budget DVRs, if thats what you mean. Do you mean High End DVRs? Really Ive used some for years (GE) and used others on and off and they even lack features the Dahua DVR has for example. I just didnt get it in the end, for example a 1/4 the price of the high end stand alone I could build a rock solid PC DVR with a ton more features - though still alot more then these budget stand alone DVRs. I swore by the high end stand alones for years, but as the PC software got more advanced, I switched and never looked back. However with PC hardware advancing so quick that can be a PITA also as if you just build them every now and then, when you goto spec parts and then the next day those parts could be discontinued already! That Qsee though for example is a very budget unit from Dahua, not even listed on their site. For years actually many of the Consumer DVRs were for example from AvTech. Lots of professionals use them also, for their budget clients, although these Dahua DVRs blow away AvTechs. I will let the others argue over warranties as that means little to me. -

optionally could try an EXE in Mac using Wine, or Virtual Box/Fusion in Mac. viewtopic.php?f=12&t=19615

1-use a 12VDC or 24VAC power adapter not a battery, although a fully charged 12VDC 1A battery such as for alarms should work, just to be sure though. 2-reset all settings to default. Go into the main OSD and select the INITIAL setting. If it doesnt allow you to change it then its already defaults. 3-adjust it connected to a TV or CCTV monitor if you have time run through this list and fill in the settings from your camera and repost it here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22735 Also what do you mean by large pixels, can you post a snapshot of it?

Anyone have an opinion on 3xLogic MVR Series?
rory replied to Kablooie's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Good info. Well the Atom does stay cooler then the Core 2's etc. So that could be plus. I gues they are using a riser card, just found some on Newegg actually, dont know why I had so much issue finding them before LOL. Actually to be honest in my appt now I only have 1 monitor, thats my PC monitor, not even a TV right now, so I just connect to the cameras over the network (using my software which is movable and re-sizable and can stay on top etc), so for me it would work. For alot of homes though they want that video out on the TV which is where it runs into issues, and since many have laptops now they cant leave them on or in place all the time. That said, I guess could setup a separate PC just for that, though that raises the cost more. Keep the info coming though. And if you can PM me a price, retail if need be, just for an idea. My colleague here runs everything off Solar and always is looking for low powered stuff so might interest him as well, he is the one that does the purchasing. -

Oh yeah and this might be what you are looking for also, I tested with 4 demo IPs and works: basically its image refresh using a javascript timer, set to 1 second. this is not fast video but its over the web anyway, I tried it lower but it has issues. <IMG width="352" height="240" border="0" name="image1"> <IMG width="352" height="240" border="0" name="image2"> <br><br> <IMG width="352" height="240" border="0" name="image3"> <IMG width="352" height="240" border="0" name="image4"> <SCRIPT language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> <!-- var t = 1 // interval in seconds var img1 = "http://10.10.10.10/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=352x240" var img2 = "http://10.10.10.11/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=352x240" var img3 = "http://10.10.10.12/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=352x240" var img4 = "http://10.10.10.13/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=352x240" document.images["image1"].src = img1 document.images["image2"].src = img2 document.images["image3"].src = img3 document.images["image4"].src = img4 Start(img1,"image1"); Start(img2,"image2"); Start(img3,"image3"); Start(img4,"image4"); function Start(img, name) { tmp = new Date(); tmp = "&"+tmp.getTime() document.images[name].src = img+tmp var delay = function() { Start(img, name); }; setTimeout(delay, t*1000) } // --> </SCRIPT> Or use a blank 1x1 gif (or same size as camera image) to fill the image then connect to the IP camera once the page has loaded: <body onload="onload();"> <IMG SRC="blank.gif" width="352" height="240" border="0" name="image1"> <IMG SRC="blank.gif" width="352" height="240" border="0" name="image2"> <br><br> <IMG SRC="blank.gif" width="352" height="240" border="0" name="image3"> <IMG SRC="blank.gif" width="352" height="240" border="0" name="image4"> <SCRIPT language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> <!-- var t = 1 // interval in seconds var img1 = "http://10.10.10.10/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=352x240" var img2 = "http://10.10.10.11/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=352x240" var img3 = "http://10.10.10.12/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=352x240" var img4 = "http://10.10.10.13/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=352x240" function onload() { Start(img1,"image1"); Start(img2,"image2"); Start(img3,"image3"); Start(img4,"image4"); } function Start(img, name) { tmp = new Date(); tmp = "&"+tmp.getTime() document.images[name].src = img+tmp var delay = function() { Start(img, name); }; setTimeout(delay, t*1000) } // --> </SCRIPT>

Axis also has demo scripts and samples on their site for other options like image push etc. http://www.axis.com/techsup/cam_servers/tech_notes/live_snapshots.htm http://www.axis.com/techsup/cam_servers/tech_notes/205_live_video.htm http://www.axis.com/techsup/cam_servers/tech_notes/video_hit_rate.htm http://www.axis.com/techsup/cam_servers/tech_notes/live_video_iis.htm For example could do something like this, though not sure if this works on Mac either: <html> <head> </head> <body> <center> <iframe width="352" height="240" src="http://10.10.10.10/axis-cgi/mjpg/video.cgi?resolution=352x240"></iframe> <iframe width="352" height="240" src="http://10.10.10.11/axis-cgi/mjpg/video.cgi?resolution=352x240"></iframe> <br> <iframe width="352" height="240" src="http://10.10.10.12/axis-cgi/mjpg/video.cgi?resolution=352x240"></iframe> <iframe width="352" height="240" src="http://10.10.10.13/axis-cgi/mjpg/video.cgi?resolution=352x240"></iframe> </body> </html>

using their provided ActiveX in Windows: axis is pretty straight forward, dont know about panasonic but shouldnt be much different. download the Axis SDK with ActiveX control for Mjpeg, from their website. Install it. Then add the code for the axis in a webpage, very basic example page: note all the params inside the object tag are the defaults. <html> <head> <title>Axis Example</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function onload() { // custom settings document.AxisMediaControl1.BackgroundColor = "&H404040" document.AxisMediaControl1.StretchToFit = "True" document.AxisMediaControl1.EnableReconnect = "True" document.AxisMediaControl1.Popups = "0" document.AxisMediaControl1.MediaType = "mjpeg" } function connect() { // text box values document.AxisMediaControl1.MediaURL = "http://"+document.getElementById('url').value+"/axis-cgi/mjpg/video.cgi" document.AxisMediaControl1.MediaUsername = document.getElementById('user').value document.AxisMediaControl1.MediaPassword = document.getElementById('pass').value document.AxisMediaControl1.Play(); } function disconnect() { document.AxisMediaControl1.stop(); } </script> </head> <body onload="onload();"> URL<input type="text" id="url" size="31"><br> USR<input type="text" id="user" size="10"> PASS<input type="text" id="pass" size="10"><br> <input type="button" value="Connect" onclick="connect();"> <input type="button" value="Disconnect" onclick="disconnect();"> <p> <object classid="clsid:745395C8-D0E1-4227-8586-624CA9A10A8D" id="AxisMediaControl1" width="352" height="240"> <param name="_cx" value="5080"> <param name="_cy" value="5080"> <param name="MediaURL" value> <param name="AutoStart" value="0"> <param name="UIMode" value="none"> <param name="Mute" value="0"> <param name="Volume" value="30"> <param name="MediaUsername" value> <param name="MediaPassword" value> <param name="NetworkTimeout" value="15000"> <param name="MediaType" value="none"> <param name="FullScreen" value="0"> <param name="MediaFile" value> <param name="ShowToolbar" value="0"> <param name="ShowStatusBar" value="0"> <param name="StretchToFit" value="0"> <param name="PTZControlURL" value> <param name="MPEG2VideoDecodingMode" value="0"> </object> </p> </body> </html>

Thats good to know, I always thought the reason for using XP embedded was so that the user could not change the OS. I never looked into it any further as it costs so much or difficult to purchase for me at least. this was a good read up on XPe also: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5956 -

why are you connecting to the USB? If its to view them on the PC then connect it to a network like a router and try the IP address you set in the DVR in a web browser. -
