  1. I like control of XP .. size isnt the issue, theres other things that makes the GUI faster and not everybody tweaks them that way.
  2. CNB is Korean CNB have good domes but I didnt have any good experiences with their IR bullets. KT&C is also Korean and have many mini cameras and some decent IR bullets. They also have color only and BW only mini bullets, good for where it is not pitch dark and lower cost alternative to TDN and better image that Color IR in most cases.
  3. Ok just not going by the customize part of that site linked above though, but can buy it without the mobo and then add your own?

    video recording to ssd drive.

up to 285 read and 275 write thats gonna be flyin .. 135 max for most current HDDs, 90 max for the WD green AVs.
  5. as long as you arent doing HD video shouldnt be much issue anyway. What would cause the issue though is the OS you use and the type of DVR software, eg new Geovision would destroy that type of pc, the older Geo works fine with it (or adequate). Alot of the stand alone DVRs you mentioned for example are not running Windows so that alone makes a big difference, especially against Win Vista or Win 7. But for example on 1.6 Atoms I used they have issues with HD video on youtube under XP, but I can run 64 little windows of various DVRs and Mjpeg IP cameras with some lag mostly when changing views, but no lockup, in fact I do that on my old Asus EEE PC, but its my custom software developed on that. From what thewireguys has said Exacq is light weight also and thats a full blown NVR. Ofcourse the 1.6 Atom in those ITX cases are a little different from the ones in the netbooks/laptops, different model, probably faster. Speak to thewireguys though as he's made his own before, I believe they have some better boards with faster video chips. That 3x logic is a sweet case though, pity they cant fit in core 2 or least a pentium dual core, dont know how but Apple seems to do it in theirs Anyway no doesnt have to be super fast, even this Dahua slim line Stand alone DVR I have has some delay switching views etc and playback, slower processor than their more expensive larger models, probably to also cut down on the temps, but it records fine and hasnt crashed (yet).

    video recording to ssd drive.

Well okay I wouldnt say dont do it alltogether, this is for a test right? Sure go ahead and test it and let us know I think it will work but for how long is the question. Also some SSDs are very slow but some are very fast, much faster than HDDs.
  7. i would check that cable splice again, could have come slightly loose. What kind of cables are being spliced together?
  8. true .. i like the LCD on it thats for sure while we going off topic .. any thoughts on this? http://us.acer.com/acer/productv.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&kcond61e.c2att101=78432&sp=page16e&ctx2.c2att1=25&link=ln438e&CountryISOCtxParam=US&ctx1g.c2att92=447&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=1885445877 i3 1.2Ghz? Are they doing something to make the 1.2 super fast or something? claims 8 hour battery life. runs around $600 retail.
  9. ok thanks Um yeah soundy dont worry then, If its an Atom 1.6 Im not interested .. thanks though.
  10. What type of camera is this? exact model or specs but plz dont post link to a retail store What type of cable and connectors are being used? What is the distance from the DVR to the Camera? Is anything close to the camera? A piece of cable in the field of view, a bush or tree limbs, etc, anything that is close to the front of the camera which can cause the IR to reflect back onto it and cause white out.

    settings, camera looks bad

What camera is it? Is Direct Draw overlay enabled? A couple of their bullet cameras I used had bad images, might be the same model.
  12. Looks interesting indeed, I like small DVRs especially if they have the features. I know we can build our own but most times its an issue finding one that can meet the power requirements of a DVR system with the card etc and also finding one that has a riser card for PCIE which many of the dual core mini ITX boards come with, plus a fast enough for a DVR system normally gets very hot at that size. Question, can you ask them also if the XP Embedded can be customized by advanced users? Ive never used XP embedded so thats why I ask. Also it doesnt appear to have a DVR card for the analog cameras, it mentions a "whip cable" instead, can you check on this also? Also can you check on how hot it gets inside? And can you PM me a price plz? thanks.

    Webviewer & Windows 7

Sounds like permission issues with Win7 AKA Vista. In those OS by default you cant save data in certain folders such as "Program Files" unlike in XP. Run it in compatibility mode and see if that helps.
  14. Contact the manufacturer, many will sell either the dome cover or an empty dome.
  15. Yes you can use a Video Decoder to decode the network video. But it will depend on the camera, you would need to check with the IP camera manufacturer. For the cost of the decoder you could normally buy a couple good non IP cameras.

    video recording to ssd drive.

I wouldnt bother, waste of money, the constant writing, it wont last very long. todays hard drives stay pretty cool, I put in a blue WD drive in the middle of the summer in a PC in a room with no AC and no fan and only 1 window which was closed and this HDD was recording 24/7 .. it actually was not that hot and has been running fine.

Need help re: how to focus a camera

Max zoom is always going to be the sharpest, and the easiest to focus. If you want to focus more wide then get something closer to the lens otherwise it can be difficult. Also yes it can be difficult on an LCD anyway, though they vary. A small 13" TV for example should work great. BTW what are you using to focus on, an object or just the surroundings? Always focus on the center of the image also, then check the edges and adjust. And BTW some cameras and lenses just suck for focusing. I wouldnt expect a Bosch Box cam to be one of them though. Could also be bad lenses, or camera chips, though unlikely as you switched them. Make sure lens is clean as well, no finger prints. Are you focusing it inside or outside?

Need help re: how to focus a camera

make sure you readjust the iris back to normal.
  19. Also regarding the activeX and security settings, in most cases one can just set the disabled activeX settings to prompt, and add the site as a trusted site, then set them back to defaults after. Or better yet, just download the activeX file/s and manually install them, if its a cab in most cases can just extract the files and right click install on the .inf file. As mentioned IE tab wont install anything, it has to be done prior to running the site in IE tab or it wont work.
  20. NVT isnt network transmission though.

Need help re: how to focus a camera

1-Never used the camera so take this as you will 2-Generally you need to backfocus it first, that is probably the blue ring. Open the IRIS all the way by using the IRIS level. Zoom the lens all the way to the max telephoto (T), then adjust the focus all the way to Infinity (like a sideways 8 ). Next adjust the backfocus until it is focused crisp. Make sure you are focusing on some letters or something you can get a fine focus of, such as a licence plate or some kind of grill or bars, but not too small that you cant see the edges clear. Once that is clear then set the Iris back to normal, adjust that outdoors in bright sun if you can, then adjust the zoom and focus to your required setting for the app or do that at the location. If the camera has a sharpness setting inside its OSD then set that to max before doing any of this. When in doubt check the camera manual and they should mention how to backfocus that camera, maybe even give diagrams.
  22. I thought networks runs were limited to like 300'? Or is this wireless?
  23. Last I checked Geo was cheaper than others, but maybe someone else could make a recommendation.
  24. As with most networked DVRs, it has the option of a browser application. BUT it also has a client program. I have the same brand DVR here from the manufacturer in China, and I never use the browser. The IE Tab I mentioned is for Google Chrome, not sure if they have one for FF also. If one was to avoid any DVR that has an HTTP server then that would pretty much count out 99.99% of networked DVRs.
  25. not entirely, as if that were true then we wouldnt be needed, the clients could just buy the same products from retailers and install it themselves. thats not the case rory. say a customer called you out to give a price for a system but the customer wanted you to buy all the equipment from ebay $20 cameras and a $60 dvr. but he wanted to see faces at 60ft and record for 30 days. what would you do buy and install or give the customer the knowledge that you know the system will not do the job but the equipment you sell will. The point I was making was that if they were to use the same product as you would, same exact thing, same camera, same DVR, same cable, connectors etc, who knows they may have seen you put it in another place, or you might have quoted them product model numbers, whatever, they still need your expertise, in other words it is not just "down to equipment used at the end of the day".
