I tired a pixem last night and it was awful, had all kind of artifacts, same with when I tried it when they first came out a few years ago, Id never waste money on one of those chips again. Otherwise cant say as cant see it that clear. Seems #1 has some digital artifacts so maybe that is pixem? #3 looks like the best picture in this case.

Here even if they know there are cameras they dont check. One guy walked up to a camera at face height at the entrance to an Alarm Monitoring company. Him and his pal were on foot, no car, he smiled at the camera just inches from it, then turned around and went about helping his pal grab stuff out the back of a truck parked there, they then ran off. Cops never showed up. As for tools, cant even leave them in the next room on a construction job here, I turned my back on one job and turned back around my screw drivers were gone, only 3 other guys in the room!!!

Which online retailers are legit?
rory replied to btrotter's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Ive used professional gear for years (GE, Extreme CCTV, etc), and CNB comes as close to or surpasses much of it (except for the IR part). One thing I have found over the years is just because something has a professional name on it doesnt mean its any good. Cameras at least. -
NAS storage for IP Cameras
rory replied to Fusion79's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Sounds like they want an NVR not NAS. -
That I know of, there are very few if ANY CCTV cameras manufactured in the US. Now some may buy the kits ready made then put them together but other than that, most manufacturing is in Asia due to lower labor costs. Stay Away from Sharp, and stay away from Ebay, then you should be okay. But quality differs greatly among cameras, doesnt matter where you buy it from.

I think the Gamma was only in the newer version. There are a couple versions floating around, I had 2 different versions in one order.
-
Also, if anything you could add to this please do, I had to get rid of the one I had here to install at a client so didnt get a chance to add the defaults that came with it, but Ill try with the next one. Like to see what differences there might be between the different versions, also INITIAL does not always seem to set all to default. On one version I could not even enable SLBC even after setting all INITIALs. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22735

Sorry my mistake, I was thinking GAMMA That might make a difference also .. Ive made it 0.35 for areas that needed to see a little more at night. Some came 0.35 default, most others 0.45. But if they were to set it higher maybe it will switch over quicker.

good idea. Although 7 would be a little too dark to leave it in Seems on some versions 0.35 is default while others are 0.45 ..

The thing with CNB is that almost everyone sells it now. Sucks if you want a closed product that your clients cant easily get their hands on outside of you as the source, or check pricing on, but other than that its great, lots of competition to keep the price down. -
Anyone switch from GeoVision to a stand alone DVR?
rory replied to nsxttt's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I have started to, or tried, but still havent found anything yet to match the Geo for even some of the basic features it has. We are switching more due to the high cost of the Geovision, well that and I dont have time to be building DVRs every few months when someone wants one. If we were to stock and sell them thats a different story, but parts change so much that it can be frustrating, and I dont use ready built ones as they rarely come how I want them to. Im leaning towards testing the CNB DVR card which is much less than the Geo .. I like their remote software and hoping their DVR card software is also good - but for the price I probably wont complain anyway. The one Im looking at is the 120fps 16 channel card, similar to the GV-800 except its max 640x480 resolution. -
I dont know of any, but their SDK is readily available on their website, and its really easy to use and implement as well as giving one alot of power over what they want to do.

Same here, the newer models have the low mid high switch over but thats not even in the manual yet LOL. I didnt notice any difference either. Best bet is to try to point it down a bit more or more away from the light source. Also another option is to try and somewhat block the photocell a bit so less light gets to it, but without covering the FOV ofcourse. Additionally there is an EXT for day night which I imagine is an external switchover as when you set it to that it goes right to color, so that might be another option, but I havent tested that myself yet.

Caution when buying from Surveillance-Video.com
rory replied to SpyGuy10's topic in Security Cameras
I recently did an RMA with 123, well the client did, they took care of it right away, although the product was still bad, or incorrect - was not 123 fault though, it was being falsely advertised on the Manufacturer's website as something it was not. -

Yeah I watch their demo vids all the time .. they come from the store in the that shopping center in farmingdale .. front and rear of the store. Even 123 dont have all the demo vids that SV have on their youtube accounts Yeah they probably do operate separately, some prices are even different at least on the sites. Maybe they are just friends or something. -

VEC1604FB or GV-1480 card...hardware or software...?
rory replied to x-man's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Enabled by default. I have 13 cameras for example, when only 4 are getting motion, they are real time. It speeds up and down depending on how many cameras are picking up motion at the time. -

To Other Members: Please keep replies with store names/links limited to a PM, thanks. To the OP: There are many, the first couple that come up on a google search are normally fine, in the case of CNB. Also, in most cases if the camera is not listed but the brand is, they can still get it for you, if its not already listed in the wrong section of the site as some are. -

although using Geo's smart motion recording you can get much faster video in D1, near real time in many cases. -

Wavereader is a Windows program only. Dont know how well it would work on the Android Mobile OS Alternative? Run a script to create the ActiveX then snapshot ever X amount of seconds to a folder shared in a webserver on a PC somewhere, and then just access that image from the cell phone.
