These are from a sub $200 DVR im testing. Ive been messing around with the quality settings so you may see some varying quality levels below. Granted I dont have the best cameras, in fact all but the one Im testing are old 2nd hand cameras, 2 of them low res cameras and the other has focus issues as its all beat up. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/xts/vteg.jpg browser app: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/xts/dheg.jpg im testing a couple cameras that just received, they dont work properly though, see washed out colors due to no IR cut filter. and this is my custom software with the DVR's SDK:

open sorce linux based DVR + licence plate recognition?
rory replied to lortech's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
its a complicated process to get the plate numbers, here are a couple links that might be useful; http://visl.technion.ac.il/projects/2003w24/ http://www.platerecognition.info/1104.htm edit. found this also: http://javaanpr.sourceforge.net/ and this one: http://www.warelogic.com/ -
GROUND LOOP!! interference isolator?
rory replied to HDC501's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
If you have a plastic shop in the area you could get a small piece of 1/2 or 3/4" plastic in the shape of the camera bracket or just square, mount that to the pole then mount the camera bracket to that, short screws so they dont touch the pole. I had to do that with a couple cameras in the past. Whether or not it works in your case I cant say. -
Yes you can join RG59 to RG6 Cattv cable, ive had to do it in the past. Try connecting at least one together without the connector, braid to braid, center to center. If that works, then maybe its loose or bad connectors. Then just connect them all together like that instead of using the connectors. As its in the box, it should not be noticeable. Ofcourse still seal the connections with electric tape or other. Another quick thing you could try is to run electric tape around the current connections, incase they are grounding out in the box if it is metal, or just grounding out on the other connections. The twist on BNCs should be great as long as you know what you are doing, they are a proven tool for thousands of professionals in the industry, but you might have got some bad ones.

Hardware vs Software compression
rory replied to momo's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
As mentioned they will say if it is a hardware compression card. I use software compression all the time without problem, for up to 16 channels. Its also important to setup the OS properly so it doesnt use more resources than it needs to. But yes the extra processing done in the software for the compression will make the CPU work a little more. With most modern day CPUs though this is not an issue. -
so how does one connect their DVR to a network router?
rory replied to capnbooboo's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Sorry not range, I meant the total DHCP users. I always use a static IP in the DVRs by the way. -

Yeah that sounds like 200 is outside the routers DHCP range which is normally 50 (100-150). Thats why i was saying try it within the range but up high near the end, Soundy has mentioned before he has come across routers that wont let you forward outside of the DHCP range, guess that is one of them. -
Well I wouldnt suggest putting it outside, just posting my results when i was asked to do it for a client, against my better judgement.

Oh yeah the default port for those use to be 1024 if that helps, while 80 was the HTTP port. -
Also with the outdoor apps, if the VBM is not mounted under a ceiling or eave it could take on water (though the rainy season is nearing the end now), also it would need a gang box for the connections as cant make that inside the camera, unless you splice the cable together without connectors. The VCM has the extra base so doesnt need the gang box, but both of them should not really be directly exposed to the rain (regardless of the specified IP rating), such as mounting it vertical on a pole like I did, some water sneaked inside I am guessing through the bubble/ring area, also like that it gets dirty from rain spots very quickly. They sell a wall mount bracket but its a PITA so I would only use it again if It was really necessary. Id just use a bullet camera in the case of direct exposure though (other than a pelco housing with a box camera) and caulk up the area where the cable goes into it, either the KT&C VBN190NHWX Color mini bullet or a true Day Night IR bullet. Ofcourse thats just a suggestion, it depends on the app and what you can get your hands on, lots of other good products out there also.Actually a recent client even made me place 2 of the DFL-20s indoor domes outside under an eave (even though I highly suggested against it), even after a week or so of tropical storms they are still great - cross fingers!

I use to sell only those DVRs but it was the models prior to the PRO ones. Cant for the life of me remember the default IP if it had one. If it was used though it should have been changed. have you checked the usermanual? Perhaps run a network sniffer on a networked PC? -
Just because it has 720x240 doesnt mean it records in that, at least on all channels. That could be live only, most DVRs like that only record in CIF mode, or D1/half D1 on the first channel. Also the compression could be so bad that buying a high res dome like the CNB might be overkill - although the CNB dome is not that expensive anyway. If its free though its worth giving a shot. If the camera is for indoors only then bypass the 24Vf and just get the DFL-20s, just dont point it right at an entrance though as it has the usual budget camera backlighting issues, but overall the image is amazing for the price.

Slight Distortion in Video Feed
rory replied to MasterVision_Tech's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I know eclipse well, we were a main distributor for them here for years, well not me directly but people I do work for and I test everything they bring in or service it at some point. Dont get me wrong, not saying ALL their cameras are garbage, not at all, but they have a few now that are, as do most OEM resellers. I myself have the 596 and 598hims here at my place, they were there best models IMO for cost to quality level. Thing is that was fine several years ago, but now with the cost of KT&C and CNB and their products technically blowing away the Eclipse models for alot less .. makes sense to go with the better and less expensive product .. for us anyway. For example almost all the eclipse vandal domes are outdated, they also use the horrid panasonic chip in most of them not to mention the lack of a true 360 degree gimble like with the CNBs, and the ones that do or have a Sony CCD are typically double the cost of the CNBs - Ive used alot of the eclipse vandal domes BTW, a couple are good no question about it, but since finding CNB I never looked back. Although I mentioned CNB and KT&C, there is still not one brand that covers all applications. For example, I would even recommend the Eclipse ECL-555E for Indoor only apps that want a budget camera with IR - I say indoors only as with all budget cameras in that price range the backlighting is awful and turret domes dont have a great history with exposure to rain. Some of their other newer IR Bullets though weve tested and had to give or throw away as the quality was so bad and the IR next to useless, not to mention the ones Ive come across in the field from other installer jobs, and these were the expensive ones. Thing is with Eclipse and other OEM sellers they change the brands and models alot, so even if something sucks today, they may replace it tomorrow. As they are local to you, then that might be a good thing then you can also give them some direct feedback. BTW a couple guys left eclipse, one went to work with Vsionis, the other for XTSVideo - both in florida. Vsionis actually have a couple good cameras I could recommend, cheap ones but good for the price. XTSvideo have the Dahua DVRs, cant beat the price for what it has .. i have one here testing since the night before. On that note I have a couple viteks with amazing specs but they came bad, just received the replacements, if they work then they will probably be my newest choice for a true day night IR bullet at least for areas that need alot of IR, they really do outstanding in that area, but CNB still has the best price on a True Day night bullet comparable to the 598HIM but at a much lower cost and a better overall picture. -
I would wait a week at least ... but basically from the specs the 20s are 12VDC only.

so how does one connect their DVR to a network router?
rory replied to capnbooboo's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Yeah with Ultra VNC I connect to really slow connections also, i turn down the colors on the viewer to make it easier to deal with. -
Remote viewlog has to be the same version. Or just update the codecs to the 8.3.4 version.

rory replied to capnbooboo's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Thats true if he has only tried using it through the browser or tested the HTTP port. since he mentioned it was several DVRs in the beginning .. Just realized they were the ports for the same DVR .. silly me. Anyway if they are blocking port 80 then he should be able to still use the desktop software to connect as 5550 is the port for that, although that was not connecting either when I tried using telnet. And as mentioned change the http port from 80 to something else like 81,82,83,8081,8082,8083 etc. anyway. -

Should work, unless there is a problem with the router. -
make sure you have http:// before the address. also if its not an HTTP port then sometimes it wont work, if the DVR has an HTTP port then you would use that instead. Should work with the video viewer software though.

so how does one connect their DVR to a network router?
rory replied to capnbooboo's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Yeah 10.0.0.1 .. the default in the manual is 192.168. something .. maybe a DSL tech changed it then. Anyway if its working locally then should be good. They probably filter all ports going in then, I tried to access the router but didnt connect, unless it is powered off? 1-try a different router like a Linksys. 2-Change ISPs -had to through it out there DSL down here wont work for remote video, unless one buys the $490 a month package then it has more than 64-128k upload. So basically switched plenty clients over the years, least the ones that dont mind paying for Cable which is still $150 a month for a business,$50 more than the DSL - but they all get Static IPs. That said, as a business dont you have a free static IP? -

Also verify what protocol type you made it, TCP or UDP or both, if both try switch it to TCP only. And that local IP seems different from the router's default? Seems almost like a DSL internal network IP. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/WNR834B/default.htm -

DSL is assigning you an outside IP everytime right? Try setup the router for remote access and try to connect to that router and its port. Also, try a static IP within the DHCP range for the DVR and see if that matters.
