  1. What was the CPU usage at? Ive tried HD video on several atom PCs and it was not good results.
  2. looks like the base64 is corrupt. that line with the error, if you leave the "t" but remove the rest, you get the attached image. it is obviously missing some encoded strings, perhaps just that one line. so it seems the DVR's SMTP mail program is not encoding the base64 correctly, or its an issue with the source image on the DVR. maybe try an updated firmware? BTW go here if you want to try it yourself: http://www.motobit.com/util/base64-decoder-encoder.asp select decode, and export to binary file, change the extension to .jpg.
  3. Perhaps, but i was talking about less headache

    CCTV Software

as mentioned you need a DVR card, and the software comes with it. If you mean you want a cheap DVR card with software, or at least something less expensive than Geovision and others like it, perhaps try the CNB DVR card and let us know how it works out. Ive been trying to save for one to test but haven't had the chance to deal with it yet. Their remote software for their stand alone DVRs is good, so I am hoping the PC DVR software and cards are good as well. The price is MUCH lower than the Geovisions. Check out this card, search google or online retailers/distributors for it: http://www.cnbtec.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=198
  5. Now im lost Well less headache would be color KT&C bullet cameras, easiest thing to install, slap in a $200 stand alone DVR and walk away .. paid in full
  6. LOL no not with an LCD, tell them use the remote software Well Ive priced it, I easily save at least $300 which is alot when we have customs and shipping here. But more importantly is I get what I want, or need, such as, I dont need a DVD, 1 stick of ram only, 1 HDD (brand names still need an HD upgrade to say a 1 or 2 TB), onboard video, Power Supply of my choice, Whatever case I need for the application .. things like that .. also I have room inside to change or upgrade. I agree these days it CAN be a PITA with the ever changing and discontinuing of PC parts .. but still it is better if we were to forget about that part of it .. As for the BIOS, many of them dont let you customize or disable certain things such as their network boot options and other hardware, or lack more advanced health options, really it is a long list I cant go into right now, but more importantly is the way they manage the hardware which can cause slow boot times and issues with hardware drivers, overall lessening the stability of the end product. I use both, I setup DVRs with brand names all the time too, I wont turn down money, I dont LIKE to do it, but money is money and when someone brings me a Dell or whatever I work with it as best I can - I can tell you it takes me much longer to get it setup properly than it does a proper system I would build from scratch using parts I select. Ive had brand names for example where you setup the BIOS then a couple weeks later it just resets to defaults, the cases and hardware support tend to be the biggest issues though, well along with the cost. anyway .. just saying .. i cant sleep at night knowing something isnt done right wait i dont sleep at night anyway ..
  7. Really depends how you build the PC. Use a smaller PSU with a single adjustable fan or fanless cooling, 1 stick of Ram, Slower CPU with speedstep, no optical drive, 1 x HDD (eg. 2TB), Onboard Video, MicroAtx board, Only use extra fans if they are really needed for the location, stripped down desktop OS (less processing means less heat and less current draw), LED instead of LCD, etc.
  8. but but but .. i can build one for 1/4 the price Seriously though its always better to build your own, the name brands can be a PITA as they arent designed for a DVR and most of them have a customized limited BIOS. figure can build a rock solid Pentium Dual Core or Core 2 duo for $250-$350 easy, depending on the case if a rack mounted is required could run $350-450 with 2TB drives included and possibly a Quad Core. Also when you build it you can choose the type of case you really want, or need for the application. All that is first cost ofcourse. So yes your labour would bring it up a bit but if you are selling alot of them you could prebuild them and once its the same PC it would be a breeze after a couple of them.

    Umm... What Camera to use?

Different cameras for different applications, where are you looking to mount them? Cant help you with what might be on ebay, but can give you model numbers and you can source them out on retail sites.
  10. Yes in Internet Explorer with ActiveX you would need to change the security settings for most of them, such as by adding the IP/Domain to the Trusted sites list. In newer versions of IE and Windows 7 f or example, there is even more added security so it can be even more difficult and in some cases with any Windows version it also requires adjusting the activeX settings manually under security and custom - if its signed then its less likely to ask for anything else, but thats not always the case. It also depends on if they are installing to certain folders on the computer and for example if its Windows 7 it wont even let it install to some of them, so if its an older one then it wont even work on Windows 7 - though one can try Compatibility mode in the newer IE. With all ActiveX something has to be installed anyway thats why I just choose to use a desktop application, more control and integration with the desktop. But if you are really into a browser based, I have to say Axis has it down packed, their remote video is among the best in the industry, ofcourse they have been doing it along time. Some say Exacq is good also but ive never seen a demo from them myself.

    Security camera for the house

Yeah that site is a little iffy. It looks like a generic store front application. However I checked the domain and its been around since 2005.
  12. Its not that they are blocked, its that the browsers such as FF and chrome dont even support activeX, for a good reason really. Anyway, you need a dvr/nvr that has a browser app that works cross browser. There are a few but not many. Its generally just jpg images being refreshed using javascript. Personally I prefer a desktop application for better video and more features - even with activeX, only so much one can do inside a browser. Video insight is one. Anything Axis. Also Exacq vision. Geovision use to have java viewer also.

    Counterfeit GV-1480 cards?

Sure if you can post a picture that would be appreciated. Though if they are knockoffs then they would be overcharging for them

    Counterfeit GV-1480 cards?

Was it a Geovision box and book and real DVD?
  16. No they havent ordered it yet, I still keep asking them too though, just cant afford to order it myself right now. Might happen in the next couple days though as they are supposed to order a couple cameras to test out now. Its not a client, its a company i do alot of work for. Though he did just order an Xtsvideo slim line DVR though, which is the same that Intellicam sells, and is made by dahua in China. They have a full SDK and original software available for download on the Dahua site as well as the customized one that comes with it. Will see how that goes, they now claim it does 7fps per channel on all channels at D1. That is the DVR with the HDMI output. Price is really good on this from Xtsvideo, guess they dont have the overhead of Intellicam. Along with the CNB 16 channel DVR card I still want to try the CNB stand alone though .. one day soon I hope. I was impressed enough with the remote software GUI speed, thats what sells me in many cases. It means they may have also tested or developed it on older hardware as well, not just some super computer like most developers do these days. personally I develop mine between an old Asus EEE PC netbook and a P4 3ghz that way on the new AND old hardware it will work good.

    Viewing Dvr remotely error

As Soundy mentioned its strange it works on 254 and not the other, but as it DOES work on that, then just leave it set to that, or anything from 200-254, then port forward to that IP. Also what OS are you using to connect to this?

GV-1480 to record more than 7 days?

Sure it is possible, there is no setting for it, just need adequate storage space and it also depends on what codec type and resolution you have each camera set to record at, and whether you are recording in motion only or continuous or a combination of both.

    CCTV System

This is for stand alone DVR ... PC DVR would be different. Either a DVR with a loop through on all channels or a spot output. If using loop through just run another video cable from the loop through output for the channel the PTZ is on, to the monitor of your choice - make that channel number 5. If spot then you can then assign the PTZ to the spot output. Then you just watch the DVR in quad view for the other 4 cameras on the main output. For example: I can't vouch for this DVR as I've not used it, but it has the specs. Also you will need to make sure the DVR supports whatever protocol the PTZ uses if you want to control it with the DVR and not a separate controller, or over the network. http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1117 or another brand, with HDMI: http://www.genivtechnology.com/products-one/Commercial-Class/G4-XLAHD Also if you want to watch the PTZ on a VGA monitor and the other cameras also on a VGA monitor, make sure the DVR has at least 1 VGA output for the main video, then using as mentioned above the loop through or spot outputs, get a really decent (not cheap) VGA converter for composite to VGA - dont go cheap on this as the quality is typically bad on the cheap ones. Or get an LCD with a composite input, eg, AV/RCA. For a PC based DVR just get one with a composite output which allows you to set the view in single way and set a specific camera for that view - OR a DVR with multiple monitor support then you can use multiple VGA monitors for example if using a Video card with dual monitor outputs, or 2 video cards. You would also need to verify what if any additional parts you will need for your PTZ to work with that DVR, again if wanting to control it with the DVR or over the network.

    4 Blown Cameras

Anything is possible, though have you checked power at the camera side? Also I would take a camera down and test it on its own power supply and direct to a monitor. Or try a different camera there you know works. Also take the switcher out of the picture for now.

    "true day/night", what is it?

it now seems a TRUE DAY NIGHT is one of those things the smaller manufacturers are not testing before they ship the product out! I got 3 cameras where it didnt work, and another member on this forum got I think it was 5 from another brand! Wondering if I should start selling just panasonic for now on ... pricey but hey ... quality control must be a little better for that extra price right?? Thing is, those 3 bad cameras will now cost us almost the price of a panasonic box camera in a housing, as even if we save on the customs duty coming back in, we had to ship the original ones in, thats shipping within the US then much more shipping cost from the US to here, then add customs on that plus misc government fees, delivered thats double the first cost. Next we have to spend all the time on these cameras testing them to find they dont work properly, then we have to box them back up, take them to customs and fill out a form, thats more time in traffic etc, and gotta drive everywhere here to do anything at $4.30 a gallon, then pay to ship them back to the US, then pay for shipping once again back from the US to here , then pick them up again and test them again .... I mean really, wait thats MORE than a panasonic box camera in a housing! But you cant just throw away the money those 3 cost to get here .. they werent cheap, but without the IR Cut filter they were next to useless, at least for the application. I mean the True Day Night cameras are great when they work .. but for how long until that IR Cut Filter mechanism fails also ... after a cut hip for the past week or so and more if you count the other crappy jobs I was stuck with, one of which hasnt paid me yet though it was completed 3 weeks ago, im starting to rethink things ... cheap Color Bullet and a dusk to dawn light (installed by their electrician) .. yeah that sounds like alot less work! Or perhaps at least wait until winter when there is alot less heat
  23. Thats a nice feature to have but in general a vast majority of CCTV applications dont call for more than one monitor, so it should be an add on for special applications, to keep the cost down on the software for the standard jobs.

    Best Dvr

Something you can buy from a retailer? CNB or Intellicam DVRs. No mobile support with CNB though AFAIK. If not in the USA then look for Dahua instead of Intellicam. XTSvideo in the USA also sells the same DVRs. Lots of good products out now, just hard to get a hold of. Oh yeah, when you find the best DVR plz let us know
