Camera and software recommendations for outside surveillance
rory replied to Jon01's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
IP cameras perhaps .. but regular CCTV cameras thats hardly a concern, unless it is a DSS camera but when testing that kind of feature has to be disabled. -
can you not use an axis or acti decoder, a PC would be cheaper though
-
Thanks Bob, he replaced it with a standalone for now. he needed 16 channels though.

Hi, have a client with an older PC with a DVR card for a company that is out of business. Seems the hard drive is probably bad, or at least Windows is corrupt from power outages or something else and need to reload .. no software for the card and the old software was crap anyway. They dont want to buy the whole new system so was thinking go with an older Geo card and should work fine with the older hardware, even if we use a new hard drive - other hardware is fine and it has a brand new PSU. So .. anyone got any old Geo cards for sale? I guess a 7.xx or 8.0/1 xx card would suffice ... to run 8.12. Basically anything that came with less then 8.2. Also if 7.xx no dongle. And must be 100% legit. If you have another big brand for cheap then let me know. No new cards plz, I can get them myself. PM me plz. Thanks! Rory

make sure the ports are forwarded in the router, in the case of the browser based activeX default is normally port 80. -

Camera and software recommendations for outside surveillance

No, you not right. Just compare "day" pictures, and look, for example to cars roofs and windscreens. On Sanyo image everything ok, on Mobotix - that parts are over-lighted, no details. That means, dynamic range of mobotix is worse.... On your film i cant see any info about "better" dynamic range, just lamps flashing, and that areas are over-lighted (no information about different red and blue colors, looks just like a white flashers.... Better examples, what i mean: Maybe the iris is just open more on that camera? Also its a different placement, slightly from other one, perhaps the sun was out more also? -
What do you mean by "DDNS server you are using works?"? Like DynDns.com etc .. that they work or exist.

Trying to view remotely on LAN & Internet- No Success

The capture one downloaded and installed for me, the honeywell one looks different. In the ports for the add a new DVR it even has the same ports you listed. You need to select to install the MSXML though or it will crash if you dont have the version it uses installed. -
not sure as the ones we get here are different, but you might want to look at something like the WRT320N or the WRT160NL if you can afford it. I have the old style here with the 2 antennas. Other clients just have the basic home units. Have you tried resetting it? Are you sure the DDNS server you are using works? Is the DDNS name, username and pass etc setup properly?

oh yeah for that korean DVR you had issues with before, here is the remote access guide: http://www.costarvideo.com/downloads/rasplususermanual.pdf the link to the RASplus software on costar's site downloads but does not install for me, might need to try an older version I found on a google search: this is version 1.9.5 from capture, its a discontinued DVR. http://www.avlogicsfileserver.com/files/capture/Discontinued%20Products/2008%20and%20older/rasplus/RASplus%201.9.5/CPT-RASplus%20v1.9.5.08071705.exe it seems the same software is used by honeywell so perhaps theirs might work also if you dont get the above to work. http://www.honeywellvideo.com/support/downloads/downloads_dvr.html#HRXD its version 1.44 though, but that might be their special version, it might still be newer than the others, Then again it might just be named the same as the others and not even work for that DVR. -

Yeah you probably need to use the client software, not the browser. No need to port forward for use on the LAN, thats just for outside. Try telnet to the IP and port number, you may need an XP machine on the LAN to do this: telnet 192.168.1.45 8016 I take it 8016 is the main live port for the client software. Doesnt seem to be browser based. make sure you have the gateway and subnet the same as the router. -
Hi, Ive emailed the Admin, Larry, regarding this. You could also try to send him a PM from here: memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=3 Thanks, Rory

maybe someone used them then returned them?

Well .. i got the 2 housings here .. the VBM is simpler to work with IMO .. I mean its small enough to not really notice it that much more than if it were flush mounted. Just one screw to the ceiling and thats it .. while the VCM needs the base to be screwed to the ceiling/wall or flush mounted, then the camera needs to be screwed to that .. but for jobs where theres no ceiling I prefer the VCM type housing for the connections inside the base.
-
Yeah it is handy for the connections, Ive used that base on a couple other CNB models. One issue I have with the VBM is just that, it would not be so bad if the cable was not so short .. trying to put it into gang box, the gang box has to be right there next to it almost, unless we splice it then extend using another cable. So basically if you're going to put it outside and there is no attic or ceiling for the connection, cheaper to get the VCM one time. It might look a little bigger and stick out some more, but so does that extra gang box, and this is only one part to deal with. And for others incase you are like me and dont read the manual first .. before you try to look for the non existing + and - on the green connector and start scratching your head, the polarity is non polarized for the dual voltage model meaning the power can go either way, for 12VDC power also.

Disappointing Performance - Any Ideas?

Hi, first how are you focusing the cameras? If using an LCD in most cases its going to be next to impossible to get a great focus. Other than using a really expensive one or perhaps HDMI. Best bet is to get a cheap CRT either a CCTV monitor or I even used to use a 13" TV. Even if not that, at least if you are going direct into the LCD then it will be better than if trying to focus with the video coming from the DVR. Also if you focus with alot of glare such as in bright sunlight its going to be hard to get it right no matter what tool you use. Anyway it could also be the DVR cards or the software you are using. Also what is 2004 BW coaxial? Incorrect cable can cause degraded signal. -
BNC audio on the DVR? Thats a first .. Anyway .. perhaps .. if you dont want to just splice it with beanies or tape, etc .. go down to radio shack and get terminal or barrier strips and cut out a 2x2 block with cutters or scissors, if you want to make it a little neater maybe hide it in a white decorative electric gang box .. tie the cat5 into one side of the strip .. then get an RCA cable long enough to run to your DVR ... cut one end and tie that into the other side of the strip ... then get a RCA-BNC connector and put that on the other end of the RCA cable and plug that into the DVR .. should work?

unless the client opened them up and messed with them .. he had them a few days before I got them. he'd have had to use the alan key though, also he has no idea how to hook them up. I mean I didnt notice any scratches on anything, all looks brand new .. till i scratched a couple things Not getting enough on this job to hurt my head over it .. i just really wanted to do it to test them out PS. I did notice just now reading the manual on the CNB site, that the menu item under DAY/NIGHT, AUTO, which i have on 2 of the 3 domes, called SWITCH .. which is not in the user manual. Also on that 1 camera the SBLC is set to OFF by default .. which is also shown in the manual .. while the other 2 are on LOW. so SWITCH must be a new feature (its the level for switch over), and I guess I got 1 of the old stock. That would also explain why the setup defaults differ. Also notice in the manual that it has specs for the 600TVL version and a normal res version, the normal res having much lower lighting capability at 0.005 lux compared to the 600TVL at 0.01 lux .. if that matters though can cant even find a "normal" resolution one on their site LOL. -

Nah its the default factory settings that are just different between the 3 of them, or at least 1 of them. Its possible they opened them to check them .. dont know. But basically when you set the default settings, they come back different, seems its different versions of firmware. Its not that big a deal though as I didnt order them, but I did point the client to a site to buy from, a popular retail site actually. At least now I know to talk to them first in the future before I place an order myself, and make sure they understand I want identical domes. If I tell them I want them focussed though they would just laugh at me LOL -

Hi Lucy, the trick is to reply to the thread with some assistance, please dont keep asking people to contact you, that sounds too much like solicitation for business which is against the rules. Thanks. -

Did you get the VBM-24VFs setup yet? I just got 3 of them from a client to adjust, all 3 were out of focus brand new out of the box. Also sharpness on medium and 2 had Day night switch over on medium, the other didnt even have that feature and seemed not to even focus as good, also its default settings are different, it has SBLC off, while the other 2 have it at low on default settings (reset to defaults, initial), also the IDs vary but Im not using that anyway. Basically it seems only one is backfocused properly, so im going to have to adjust 2 of them for that. Guess they were between versions when the supplier ordered some of them. Anyway for the price cant complain, just not plug and play so going to have to do some work in the garage first Just a heads up incase you think the picture is not great .. just needs a little work. -
Would a Non IR Camera be possible here [See Pic]
