    HDCCTV is the new standard

Im not sold. Yet. People would have to switch from DVRs they are use to, to this one. Also where do they leave all their existing clients and all the money they already spent? They have to not only learn this new system, but also teach their clients it, and the selection of cameras doesnt look that impressive. And maybe Im missing it but I dont see any screen shots or info on the DVR software? How about some video demos and more image samples? What might be an idea is if they provide a way to add this to any existing DVR, or at least other PC based DVRs.
  2. changed the store link to the PDF from a manufacturer or rep site ... per the rules Anyway looks like it is discontinued. One rep site says it is by Prostar.

    Entire City Phone System down

just shotgun licences for hunting pigeons LOL all the criminals have guns though, uzis and aks and all. Um gun control dont work dowm here!
  4. Well it ultimately depends on the DVR, what brand and model are you using?
  5. in the case of CCTV DVRs in most cases Mpeg4 is clearer then H.264. Although it can differ, I wouldnt use that as a specific reason to buy a certain DVR, if anything could look for one with H.264 for remote access as it is better for slow connections, and using Dual Stream it can use other codecs for local video and recording.

    Entire City Phone System down

well crime is bad everywhere these days though it has become a little out of hand here now .. but yeah probably have been ... being friday lots of drunks on the road (no drunk driving law here) and out partying probably been alot of accidents by now also and probably stabbings as well. plenty times cant get 911 or 919 anyway regardless of something like this .. i tried at one accident outside my place one time, even the cops passed by and could not reach the emergency services, someone had to drive to the hospital to get them to send an ambulance .. and yes i gotta do what i gotta do! no guns though as they are mostly against the law other then for pigeon shooting and i dont want to end up in this prison here!
  7. What kind of lighting is in the bar? If the camera will always be in BW mode then could just get a BW camera, we use BW bullets in the clubs here, many do in the US also. Simple, cheap, does the job. Otherwise if enough light, just get a color high res camera, as mentioned perhaps the CNBs, or even just plain old color only bullet if the budget is tight. If its too dark in a certain area THEN you may need IR. For example one of the clubs I work on we use various cameras, mostly BW bullets, but in a couple cases color only bullets and domes as those bars have enough light and they needed something installed right away so used what I could find locally, then BW Vandal Domes for one area as its always low light (hard to find though, could make your own using a mini cube BW camera and a dummy vandal dome housing), color at the entrances and car park, and a BW IR bullet by an office door as its too dark. KT&C has alot of the mini color and bw cameras, if using BW then get the 420tvl lower res model as it is more sensitive in low light then the 600TVL models. For day night, as mentioned CNB seems to work well, but make sure it is a True Day Night (ICR) not just color IR, at least in important areas.

  14. a 200 page manual in several languages and a pretty case
  15. From the user manual: Connecting Telemetry Cameras D4 supports serial telemetry, the brand of telemetry must be set in the ‘System Options’ menu. Serial Telemetry D4 currently supports a number of domes using serial telemetry. Serial telemetry requires a twisted-pair connection from the D4’s serial port to the dome. Serial telemetry can be star configured – from the D4 serial port to each receiver, or delta configured – each receiver daisy chained together, or a combination of the two. Each receiver needs to be addressed according to its camera number – consult your receiver documentation for details. Control of the telemetry is via an external keyboard connected to the D4 (DM/KBS3). Anyway, use the network port to connect to it!

    Skinny DDR2-800 Memory

yeah im thinking now they must have sent this smaller ram as he ordered a cube case .. didnt seem to matter for the ram inside the case though but i guess they had to get rid of it on some one
  17. A client just bought some Kingston Value Ram and its half the height of what ive used in the past. Is this normal, anyone had any issues with this before or its okay? EDIT: just found out its a low profile one, guess it still should work, no idea why they sent that one. But seems Kingston has that same product number for the regular ones and the low profile ones. thanks. Rory

    base on experience.

CNB has the Blue-i cameras with the Eclipse features, might want to take a look at them for a cheaper alternative to a specialized licence plate camera. Otherwise ived used the REG camera before for licence plates at an entrance gate to a gated community, expensive but works day and night and in pitch dark, plug and play. Eg CNB Blue-i

    HDCCTV is the new standard

Is that a DVR with IP, or you mean an IP camera/server setup? I realize many cant still do much PC or network stuff, but they are the same ones having issues just setting up a DVR for remote access .. in many cases they just outsource for that part. I dont think there is ANY new standard, the standard still seems to be the cheapest cameras one can get their hands on ... been that way for a few years now. Although if there IS a new standard one could argue that for some reason everyone wants one of the turret IR domes, even though they tend to end up with the crappiest one they can get their hands on, they seem to fall for all the sales pitches for using IR and vandal type domes.

    I HATE PCs

Glad it works For future reference, another route instead of installing SP3 separate is to get the older version of XP Pro installation disk and slipstream SP3 into it. You could then use something like Nlite to create an ISO and then burn that to a CD/DVD, and that way you will have an XP SP3 Installation disk. Not much difference then installing SP3 over say an existing SP2 install but it does take up a little less space and is a little cleaner.
  22. Darnit! We have several a day here. But as long as it doesnt fry the equipment then i guess its ok.

    I HATE PCs

With Windows in most cases yes you have to install some drivers, especially with the older OS, not that big a deal now though and much simpler then years gone by, one can go on the Manufacturer site and download it or use the Drivers and Application CD/DVD that came with it - you will find that many refurbs are missing that and also have certain hardware that may be bad, ive setup hundreds of refurbs over the years including 4 just last week. The I-mac you also have to install drivers, if using Windows on it, as I did, Mac OS automatically has those drivers installed for their hardware, there are MANY other drivers that Mac is missing, much more then even Windows XP. Additionally I-mac IS a PC now, same parts as in any other computer, essentially, although it uses an Open Source firmware instead of a Bios, among other things similar to Linux - IMO its just basically a stripped down more limited version of Linux. Now to Windows, the OS, not the PC, once it is setup properly it is great as a DVR, secure, stable, a work horse. Ive been doing this with them for a few years now and never had a problem. Its all about in the setup, just cant expect to install and walk away, same with ANY OS. Thats what I get paid to do, but then Im here and not there, and oh yeah im still cheaper than apple. now that said, you could just image the 500GB drive then restore that Image to the 1TB drive, then grow the drive if you want to match the new size, but If it were me I would do a fresh install, make the System drive 40Gb and leave the remainder for the Video data. Most problems are not the OS fault, typically it is 3rd party software or hardware related, drivers or other. what are the specs of this computer? One thing to note is that alot of current software is developed on fast new computers, much like or even much faster then the I-mac. If one tries to run said software on a slower computer like a P4 or Celeron then one can run into all kinds of problems. Personally I develop my software on both a P4 and a 600Mhz Celeron netbook, that means it will run well on almost all computers, especially the newer systems. Additionally the 3rd party software may use the DOTNET framework, so that would need to be installed. And depending on which version of XP you have you may need to install VC++ runtimes and other updates. Make sure its XP Pro SP2 or SP3 and you should be fine, SP3 will have the latest updates which the 3rd party software may require, allthough will still need to install DOTNET. The CD/DVD that came with it with XP probably does not have drivers, or they might have created a custom XP install and added some of the drivers on it but the network card may have been added later - in fact it should have onboard network, so that it has a separate card shows either the onboard went bad or it is that old! Refurbs are not perfect, thats why when we setup DVRs we normally build them from scratch, even a ready built new PC will require getting the right one, not all will work. Ive been using refurbs for my own home computer for years now, ofcourse i switch out parts alot though, but I get them free so im happy Also we normally make images of the new install to create a recovery or restore DVD or USB/SD for future use .. and old systems from the big name brands used to come with that same thing, but now they just typically ship the basic OS.
  24. Once its using the same cable then wont it be effected by brownouts or high spikes in power? I mean if enough high voltage is sent through it for example such as to fry a surge protector or UPS then wouldnt this damage anything else connected to it?
