    REAL camera to replace cheapies

I just normally use nail clips I buy from the local hardware store, eg
  3. No idea but the powerline thing wont work down here, power quality is way too bad, and Im sure its not perfect in other countries even in some areas of the US. Unless the person has everything on solar so its totally off the power companies grid.

Yeah I realize you covered that in the previous post, so all the personal data is stored on their servers online. I got it buddy

uhh, we were talking about the main computer where the data is stored over the internet, so like yeah at the clients location their computer is working. Yes it is hackable, it is an open security risk and I will not allow that on my PC. Thanks for the great sales pitch though, but its not for me. " title="Applause" />

So when you have to install software do you download the huge file while at the clients location? Or do you carry a laptop with that software on it, something that could also be lost or left home? Ive been doing this a few years now and never forgot my portable drive. Everytime I leave the house it goes with me, its as much important as is locking the door and arming the alarm. Anyway, if you are happy trusting all your valuable data with an online server then go for it, me, I am not. Even if I were there is no way im going to download all that software when I get to the clients location. I do alot of jobs where they havent even had Internet installed yet, not to mention where the internet may be slow or down or just inaccessible for other reasons. Ofcourse it seems we are in two totally different industries.

ha ha you are right! honestly i think they are ALL useful tools for different applications and different situations .. nothing is perfect anyway .. just use what gets the job done best for you thats all

Well the idea is flawed big time IMO. How will they get their data when the internet is down, or power is off, or the persons home computer is not running? Not to mention the security risks of leaving a folder on your computer shared to the internet. There is no replacement for a portable USB hard drive, definately not yet. As for jump drives, I hardly ever use a jump drive these days, except for video backup from DVRs. Most people I know are using Portable HDDs now also.

But there are precious minutes spent syncing it with the site. I carry my main USB portable hard drive anyway as it has my data on it, fits in my pocket, dozens of GB of data and hundreds of thousands of files, no way will I ever be upload that data over the internet, ever. If my home burns down, my data is not lost, and I can work with it anywhere, internet or not, power or not (laptop). And when I get to a client who's internet is down I still can install software and do work, even with Internet no need to download a 300MB Software Installation over the internet and waste time. You dont have to copy anything with a USB drive once you are working off of it, just plug it into the USB port and voila .. magic! However syncing does involve copying and pasting which is what download and uploading is essentially doing. But whatever works for you thats all that matters.

    Can't connect to multiview

for multiview all you should need is the command, data, and http port, audio port only if using audio.

I just carry my USB drive for that actually I work off that drive, backup to other drives. no internet needed, just plug it into any USB port and good to go I goto alot jobs that have no internet BTW. This way Im working on some code for an app on my netbook then i just unplug it and plug it into my desktop and its the same thing. No uploading or downloading (synced) involved.

Not with Mediafire, it takes you right to a download link, its unlimited uploads and downloads and can do multiple ones at once, its nothing like Rapidshare. eg: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=n2mj101uatk42 Sorry no pretty balloon but it opens the typical browser save file box. Also, with MediaFire there is no need to install the software on the PC you want to upload from .. just login from any computer with a web browser and upload ... looks like with dropbox you need to install their software to upload from? Not saying either is better, they are totally different type of apps, I prefer MediaFire, or to just use my website which I always backup anyway to removable drives locally as its included in my main backup folder.

Thanks but I dont want their app sharing a folder on my computer over the internet! Also Mediafire has unlimited storage space if I dont want to use my website, which i use most of all and I dont have an iphone or android so no need for that.

    cnb internals vs

going by specs only from the USA and the Korean sites: BBM-24F is coming up as NTSC while the specs for the BBM-21F is PAL. As mentioned the 21F is 12VDC only, the 24F is Dual Voltage. Also according to the specs the 24F is lower sensitivity at 0.005 lux in BW and the 21F is just 0.01 Lux (or the US version bbm-20 is 0.05 lux). Id take that to mean the faceplate levels so its probably more like 0.05 and 0.1 lux (or 0.5 lux, not very low light at all). So it looks like, regardless of all having the Monalisa chip, the 24F is probably a better camera for low light apps, while the others, at least the BBM-20 is more for apps that have good lighting or perhaps added IR. Ive used neither so only going by the specs.

that red green blue is on most chinese cameras!

    REAL camera to replace cheapies

The VMB-24VF is an outdoor vandal dome, IP66 rated. Also it wont "see in the dark" without additional visible or IR light, but it should see in low light as most true day night cameras will. Your existing cameras are probably color IR cameras with very little IR, and what it does have that little tree there might be blocking as well. Either way the CNB should be much better then that one, even a CNB color IR vandal dome would be better then that one and put our much more IR. With the 24VF you still might need to add light, what is the lighting like there? Not sure how the 24VF will work with car lights, normally need a WDR type of camera for that. As for cable, I use RG59 18/2 Siamese, Copper in and out, solid center, NO foil.

    Can't connect to multiview

just the Geo computer. What ports did you forward? Does it work across the local network? Also, try to telnet to the ports to see if they are really open. If no telnet on your version of windows then try this: http://www.websitepulse.com/help/testtools.server-test.html

I like mediafire because all accounts can upload an unlimited number of files, unlimited storage space. 200MB max size of the file with the free account, or 2GB file sizes with the paid account. Also can assign names to the folders so its easier to share. And no software to install on your computer. Sorry I dont have any referral link .. too much hassle IMO. eg: livevue is just a custom url i created and set to a sub folder, not the name of my account. http://www.mediafire.com/livevue (free accounts only allowed 1 custom url though)

backing up to a external h/d

If its just 1 camera, you could goto that camera number under the location where you are saving the recorded video to (storage path), then just copy that folder. If you have more then 15 days worth then its going to be large so you could go into that Camera's folder then just copy the sub folders of the dates you need. Then once that is done just delete those folders you copied, then run the database repair. this might give you a little more info on the layout of the folders and recorded file names: viewtopic.php?t=9761 If something is really important I always make a copy of it or several, before I start deleting or editing. Perhaps clone the entire drive where the video is stored, or just copy the folder manually, to another local drive such as plug in temporary SATA drive, same size or larger, then disconnect it once its all copied. If you want to clone it you could look at a small program called DriveSnapshot (search google), it will just make an image of the entire disk and then you could restore it to the other temp/backup drive.

    a little confused

Yes typically when they advertise 480/480 its in CIF. Unless it is a hardware compression card which can generally produce the full 30fps for each channel over 16 channels, also with much faster systems like 6 cores today it is said to be almost possible to get close to full 30fps per channel over 16 channels using software compression. D1 is the resolution (eg. 720x480 NTSC) and H.264 is the Compression.

backing up to a external h/d

What do you mean by safer? If it can hold I normally back up to the local drive first (system partition), then manually copy that to my USB drive. 15 days could be alot though. Might want to back it up in parts. Another way is to just copy the entire video data folder, or clone the entire drive, then run ezviewlog on that data.

make sure windows firewall has all the ports added if it is enabled.
