How to choose a dvr company

I agree, but some are here to advertise and they will post information for the products they sell whenever they can regardless of the topic (Digital Video Recorders forum = Non PC based DVRs). I dont agree with it but unless it is direct spam or links to online stores they are not really breaking the rules, just going off topic and we all do that on forums.

    CIF, D1, H.264 Mayhem!

Im not going to analyze an old video just to make you and your boys happy. SIMPLE, in my experience using VidCap or AmCap (take your pick) you have to select a codec, in this case the video was hardly compressed if not at all - god its been a few years since I used it so i will not explain something that is of no importance to why i posted. The point in this little exercise was to show a snapshot of a video that was uncompressed by a DVR. Take that as you will as I am sure you will want to argue and complain and tear apart everything i said as usual ... i dont have time for people that analyze every little thing, but feel free to go start a new thread on compression and codecs if you are that interested in what I posted. Im done replying to your nonsense. And by the way your avatar really does you justice.
  3. if only for live view .. check out the standalone DVR that intellicam uses, the slim line 16 channel DVRs with HDMI output .. amazing live video using HDMI and a compatible LCD monitor .. record is only CIF though. But also has network software if needed. They are also sold under other OEM brands at lower cost such as Xtsvideo. Price is very good, cheaper then building a 16 channel PC DVR in this case.

    $250-$400 PC, choose the card
  5. yes any bright light should blind that camera if it is as cheap as we think it is.

    Hello/ newbie aboard

Welcome to the forum. I would suggest a Geovision card, very well known, stable, and you can find support for it from this forum, a major plus right there!

Geovision is probably the leader of PC DVRs.
  8. go with a Geovision DVR, you can use either CCTV cameras OR IP Cameras. Geovision Rules!!

Intellio vs. 3x Logic vs. Geo Vision

I would go with Geovison, just cant beat it.

I really have no reason to explain further. If I did however you would run VidCap on your windows OS and find various generic codecs with little to no compression if any. Its been several years so unfortunately I cannot name them but im sure a search of the forum can answer all your questions. When capturing using VidCap as in my sample, you must select A codec and does not matter whether it compresses or not or how well it does. If you think a 43 second clip that is 693 mb is compressed in some way I would be impressed to know how.

Considering "codec" stands for "compression/decompression"...? and your question is? some unknown codec with little to no compression .. ?????
  15. i use to spend upwards of a week setting up an EX82! But its a dual color BW cam and involved day AND night "physical" adjustments we didnt have all the digital settings the IP cams have .. we had to do hands on

the poor jeep .. the tranny went on new years so i bought a 2nd hand one here locally .. that crapped out 6 weeks later so its sitting up under a tree now .. after sitting up for over a month it still starts on a quarter turn .. thats one good american vehicle! i got a loan on a small tiny japanese truck for now only had it a few months .. looking to sell that so i can take those monthly payments and just buy a 2nd hand tranny from the US for the jeep and have a vehicle I can actually drive on these darn "roads" here, driving this little truck here is like being beat across the back with a baseball bat!
  17. i wanted to start a CCTV camera test site but living in the Bahamas it is next to impossible. I even registered a domain but eventually gave it up. Living in North America though it should be no problem getting demo cameras from camera manufacturers, not just IP manufacturers also. There are already a few IP camera review sites out there by the way, no real CCTV camera review site in general though that deals with everything.
  18. I would keep the old aver system for basic cameras for now then add a couple mp cameras .. ask wireguys about the mini PCs he built as NVRs ... low current and small. BTW the FOV would not generally be any different. Random rebooting could be the system itself, though you say it is a new i7 PC? Im not a fan of avermedia DVR software but others love it ... i use Geo myself, tried Avermedia and just did not like it. Avermedia seems to be stable though going by the other members that use it.
  19. always gotta knock the IR back some ... the original EX82's claimed 150' IR (i think actually 165') but that was indoors, they actually did tell you that outdoors is only 75' approx .. Though in my case with the pool i was getting at least 90' but it was due to the objects (building and pool patio etc) for the IR to reflect from, and it being placed at a lower height. The newer EX82s came out with a new IR technology called Black Diamond but I never really tested those, they claimed further IR and better IR, thats what these current EX82's use also. With this EX85 MP cam the data sheet actually claims it as 150' for the same classification as the new EX82 claims for 75' so I would think it is somewhere in that 150' to 250' range outdoors, which is still alot more then the original or the new EX82, and its 1280x1024 instead of some 510x492 pixels. One thing about Extreme CCTV, the company that actually was before Bosch bought them, I use to speak to the techs and they would tell you no lies, and to the TEE about what is what and how to do whatever you needed to know, they were one of the few you could believe their specs and take their word for it (except for their cheaper WizKid division!). No idea how they are now, perhaps still as good, although still expensive
  20. this looks like its the Megapixel replacement for the EX82: http://products.boschsecurity.us/en/TAMS/products/bxp/SKUPFT6203736075.P1.F.01U.080.088-CATM8fdf64030c835c8e9ff035f126e5edf5 not saying I would go with it .. just saying .. I need to see some images from it first .. and win the lottery EX82 has an IP version now also but its not Megapixel. Domes look nicer but really its about what gets the job done. Also unless one uses a wall mount bracket, and instead mounts the dome wall mount, it could get dirtier quicker due to the rain hitting it directly. Mobotix seems to be a big player in the Day Night IR IP area now. Some of the members here swear by them. Unfortunately cant find anyone down here who wants to spend the money on that gear now, even the wealthy clients want to get the cheapest thing that does the job "good enough".
  21. the replacement bulbs on those UF500's cost approx $100 each and had to replace them every couple years .. was a PITA so eventually phased out that camera and just went EX82s on all .. then a couple years on the second batch of EX82s started to act up, had to change photocells in a bunch of them .. one went totally bad and replaced with a IR bullet which is not even close to the EX82 in that pitch dark but they can see something and they are happy with the lower cost LOL. The original EX82s from the early 2000's are still working fine! except with one of them the color camera went bad so replaced it with a cheap color IR camera but using the original EX82's IR and works almost as well Next step .. megapixel and flood the area again, if they will buy it that is .. the client in this app has 50" monitors in almost every room .. had 42" monitors 10+ years ago including for their PCs.
  22. no not wireless ... they had some wireless stuff though, I think the EX85 replaced it as an IP cam. the EX82s non wireless were expensive enough though ... here is a larger shot of that flooded IR on the driveway: (dug up some old files)
  23. BTW in the case of the EX82 to emphasize the lower resolution being better for low light apps and IR ... their color camera was a 480TVL camera and the BW one was a 420TVL (it was a dual camera). And this is something different .. this was a sanyo true day night box camera with a couple UF500 IR Illuminators .. shows how you can flood the area with much more powerful and expensive IR, shows IR off and then IR on .. thats the conditions I use to work under, pitch pitch dark! (was so tiny as was made for my website way back when)
  24. they look fine, great daytime quality, dont expect much from the IR and keep it mounted within the IR range, door areas should be okay. Also regarding the snapshot I posted, lower resolution will have greater sensitivity for low lighting and IR, those EX82's were CCTV cameras, not IP or megapixel. But regardless their IR was impressive even compared to other non IP cameras, but they came at a big price tag. In my case the wall was white, i came out of the single storey attic then ran wire mold down to the camera and put the cable in that so its not as easy to see. It takes alot of adjustments to get it just right for day and night apps. I also have them mounted higher up on poles and they work good also, but max is probably 10'-11' on 12' poles. I spent many nights in the pitch dark over the years ... darn eyes all burnt up now any IR i "see" makes them burn.
  25. old snapshot, EX82, DVR had crappy evidence sharing, over the network. Its the IR light im trying to show the example of here: Pitch dark. Approx 100' to the building. On the local monitor it was crisp. What looks like dirt is mostly bugs! But probably was dirty too, been up a few years prior to this.
