  1. No No No! I never said that! You could just sell them a high quality CCTV video system that will get the job done, as others do But if you can find a client that will spend it on Mobotix or Avilgon or whatever the next impressive technology is that comes out tomorrow then more power to you ... CIF, D1, H.264 Mayhem!

Do you honestly dont know, or are you just trying to stir things up?
  3. No there is not. I wrote a vbscript back when 8.0 came out which was an automated install, unattended but not hidden, and it did work, also worked on an EXE version but there were too many issues as their installer was so old and tended to clash and crash alot. There IS an silent uninstall though by default, but basically their installation dept never added in that feature to the installation.
  4. Ofcourse there is, the price! Thats what you think!!! My customers see the value in Hi Res video. Ask them what they see when the burglar cleans them out and is covering their face as most do ...!! Could have saved those extra thousands for some extra razor wire, better alarm system, or extra bullets

    CIF, D1, H.264 Mayhem!

Max pixel count for 99% of NTSC analog cameras is 768x494 or less. A very few may be higher (Panasonic WV-CW5xx claims 976x494) but, despite its claimed 650 lines of horizontal resolution in color mode, no other analog equipment is capable of recording or displaying that. I disagree, other then some cheap chinese brands most 480-600tvl have a total pixel count of 811x508. If it claims high res and does not have 811x508 i stay clear of it, regardless of what res the recorder does. Ofcourse whether the specs are correct or not is another thing, thats why one uses a reputable brand.
  7. Im not up against that, there are no Costcos in this country Also there is a huge diff between one of those systems and a professional system. The average person is not willing to spend an extra $3000 (eg. diff between a 4 channel CCTV and 4 IP cam setup) for something that still wont catch the criminals face, since the majority of burglars cover their faces with such things as masks, caps, or tee shirts.

    AVTECH avc760z Not Working

On my 4 channel Avtech there is a blinking red light on the board which seems to be normal. I would try another Hard Drive and see if that makes a difference. Or disconnect the hard drive all together. If I remember correctly some of them wont come up without a working hard drive. Also, can you access the menu at all?
  13. Problem is most home users and stores just dont want to spend that kind of money. Got problems just getting them to spend on something like a True Day Night Camera let alone an MP camera. I mean a side by side comparison between a nissan sentra and a ford mustang ..well id take the mustang if I could afford it but dang the gas and initial cost plus insurance .. ahh well its back to the sentra

    CIF, D1, H.264 Mayhem!

in a small office kitchen for example many times more then CIF is not needed. In cases where you just want to see what is going on, in small non priority locations like that, CIF can accommodate it. We used similar to CIF for years, though poor quality also because of VCRs, we still were able to capture evidence. I think we are all spoiled now

    Catching Mail Thieves

Sad to say thats why we dont have mailboxes in this country, just post offices for pickup. Leave a pair of shoes outside the door and its gone quick. Ok that said I would wait in the bushes till they come then zap them good .. drag them in the house and say they broke in and give them a good whooping!! I chased a burglar the other night, came in my yard trying to break in my vehicles ... he will think twice now. $5 for machete ... burglar running scared and never to return .. priceless!
  16. Ok i see what you mean and I give you that " title="Applause" /> ok so what about the vivotek bullets?
  17. Well I like axis better then acti .. but the cost is still too much.
  18. 704, 740, not much diff, point is the acti is far from 4x the resolution, not even twice.
  19. Well unfortunately I am not rich, neither are most Also, lets see that image under low light without IR
  20. No, max 740x480 I was comparing the cameras total image pixels, not the recording.
  21. Yeah but how much does a POE switch/router cost?
  22. Since your asking about IP Cameras, cant help there, this IS the only Day Night IR bullet Ive seen in this price range. I would also steer away from the chinese ones, no offence to chinese manufacturers, but alot of their IR cameras are made for very low end markets. However, if you werent asking about IP cameras then I would point you towards something like the CNB B2760NVF which is typically more then most home users require. Its a pity Axis doesnt make one to compete, if they could do similar and come in a little cheaper, or even at the same price, just for their superior network features alone I could see it being worth the price.
  23. Pretty expensive though for what it is more then 4 times the cost of a non IP True Day Night IR camera. Also the resolution says 1280x1024 where a non IP camera would be 811x508, though the acti is much more, not quite 4 times the resolution. Additionally most cameras dont reduce the shutter speed as you mentioned in the article to a level that causes motion blur, least not non IP cameras, just the ones with DSS, which personally I stay away from, or dont use that feature. Also the specs for this acti claim 30fps at 640x480, 8fps at 1280x1024. I definately see a need for a camera like this, dont get me wrong, but I think this one is overpriced for what it is.

Wide Angle, Low Light Cam Needed

He will need a fixed lens dome for the m12 lenses. the 1.8's wont fit in the CNB vandal dome, cover wont go on, at least the ones I used. 2.45 fit but not with the IR ring and still the lens touches the cover.

Wide Angle, Low Light Cam Needed

Thats true, i was thinking fixed lens dome which I myself already tried with a 1.8 and 2.45 fixed lens on a CNB vandal dome and neither fit .. his is microvarifocal so he would need a microvarifocal lens, actually that may be even more difficult to locate.
