  1. I would use RG59 Siamese, guaranteed it will work.
  2. Better to buy a separate IR illuminator... there are some inexpensive ones that should work. Providing your power supply is enough to push both you could still tie the 2 of them together.
  3. Look to see if there are any areas you can get away with just color only cameras, that would be cheaper and be a good image providing there is alot of light. Also BW only bullets could work in some locations as well where its not enough light for IR, and they are cheap as the color only, but still require some light. KT&C make some decent little color and BW bullets which are inexpensive.
  4. I have a client that has tons of money but has the yard pitch dark at night, in their case for example they just want to see if anyone is there, not who it is, so its lit up with IR from the cameras some 100'. Another example in this clients case they just want to also see who's car is coming and going, and they know the cars so ... But otherwise I agree dont expect to identify anyone really beyond 20-30' even if that depending on the cameras location. IR will never be a replacement for visible light.
  5. My last correspondence a couple years ago with GE the tech told me they still didnt have any conversion software for those file types. Ive always either done screen capture or using the DVR video out.

    Need networking help with DVR

Is the PC static also? If not, are you sure DHCP is working properly on it, check the service if not. If it is, what addresses are you being assigned? If the Cable modem is working, check the Router, perhaps that is where the problem is. Make sure the ISP static information is correct. Turn on remote admin on the router and try to telnet to that, or ping if your ISP allows it.
  7. for night viewing, to keep to that budget doubt you will find a true day night camera with 100' of IR, may have to stick to color IR or just mix them up depending on the location, or drop down to average 60' IR true day night OR add illuminators separately and use BW or Color only where you can.

Best idea would be to go back to XP. Forget all the hype, use what works.

    DVMRE 16eZt Drive size incorrect

Ok thanks .. somehow i missed this whole sale thing Never heard of UTC but i will take your word on it .. BTW I just had to use my old WaveVue software for a DVR which we put in place to temporarily replace a PC DVR which went down (cant get parts until Monday). It worked so well and quick that I decided to put the software back on my site for free download: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/software/utilities/wavevue.asp Not sure if it works with newer GE DVRs or not, also its an older setup. Unfortunately I could never sell GE DVRs again here .. 45% customs duty on them as not PCs (10%) and the first cost is WAY too high .. they just work which is nice though .. but bottom line is always cost.

    GV-1240 Major problem

Make sure the CMS icon is not in the bottom right. Worst case scenerio do control alt delete and then terminate any Geovision processes left open.

    Multiplexer Question

LOL right thats what it was .. 2 VCRs ... i tell you so much has happened since then i just couldnt remember yup 95 or nuttin

    Multiplexer Question

Triplex: view live, playback, and record at the same time. I dont think the triplex works with VCR though, only DVRs. As I said, its been several years its like asking me about Windows 95 now .. With stand alone all in one DVRs the terminology or technology has all changed and it can differ so much from one manufacturer to the next.

    Multiplexer Question

You should be using a time lapse VCR or Single Channel DVR that can demux the particular brand of Multiplexer you have. That way you can be recording all cameras at once and play back each one individually. Its been a while but I believe there should be a VCR out on the multiplexer which should be the muxed video. It sounds like you are just using the video out from the Multiplexer to the VCR and only recording what is on screen? Its alot cheaper though to just buy a stand alone DVR one time ... we stopped using muxes and VCRs and single channel DVRs several years ago.

    Multi-site dvr management

Yeah I know how to do that, I have all the tools, have done that with other things such as my own software, but I have no need to alter the resources of the activeX.

    Multi-site dvr management

No. I use it as it is, utilizing its internal methods and events. If there is something it cant do then i do it myself outside of the activeX. All I need it for is the video feed, connect, view live video, disconnect. The events are also very useful but I can still work without it.

    Multi-site dvr management

In some cases the activeX is a single 16 channel view .. depending on how heavy it is, if it allows you to resize it and only do 1 single camera then you can do it that way and add multiple ones of that, or you might just have to use the 16 way views and work it it like that, eg. 16 next to 16 and then 2 16's below it etc etc .. other cases it could be a single camera for each activeX such as with Geovision, depends on the ActiveX. Additionally the activeX MAY have additional GUI such as buttons etc though in many cases they add that in the HTML manually leaving the ActiveX to be only video. Lastly once you get that working and understand how the connections go etc (you can just go through their javascript or vbscript to see what functions etc they use to connect), if you are good with programming in for example Visual basic you could make a client app using the ActiveX also, I use simple old VB6 myself and ActiveX controls for a couple apps

    Multi-site dvr management

if it has activeX for the browser you can also just make your own multisite browser based app. just add multiple activeX controls into a basic HTML webpage, it can be something as simple as just creating a new text document and renaming it as an HTML or HTM (or even HTA page to load on windows startup) and editing the text with the activeX and javascript, then saving it to your desktop or somewhere else locally, no hosting is required. here is an example with another DVR: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=12027

I wish .. the whole tropical thing was played out for me years ago, besides I live in the city anyway .. if I could live in the US I would be on the next plane out

Is this normal for DVR playback.

Well .. with 4 channel DVRs live video is normally real time these days .. even with most 8 and 16 channel stand alones. PC DVRs will differ. Now with muxes, I havent used them in years but back in the day they were never real time in 9-16 way. A mux is different anyway, with multiple images it just switches between them super fast, so thats why you will see a greater delay as you switch to more views. If you were to ever play back multiplexed video recorded from a mux on a VCR that does not demux it, then you will just see a bunch of images switching too fast to be useful.
