http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1017 A client brought one in, its just to look at a gate entrance from the top of the 7' wall on the side of the gate, so doesnt even need to be a great image, but its pitch dark and night so IR needs to blast the small area which it will. Anyway, I just tested it, connected direct to a monitor so no sample images yet .. Without AGC It is fine inside a place with alot of light, in fact the image colors are great. However, with IR on and lights off it is terrible, a really faint little 20 degree or less IR beam .. outside with a Dusk to Dawn light which other cheap color only cameras do GREAT in, it is very dim and pixelised and even stays in a BW mode .. which is like COME ON there is a TON of light there, the camera there now is fine and it is a $50 bullet! .. there are some settings to turn the contrast etc up, but really that will prove disastrous at the location it is going at, as during the day it is 110% sunlight and the walls and walkway are WHITE. That is one reason I would like to drop the AGC which seems to make everything much brighter and has no settings for it. With AGC the colors are washed out inside with lighting. Anyone else used this camera and had any luck with it? Did you have to turn down the contrast some more, or any other settings? I would really be annoyed if their true day nights work the same way as this, at least the AGC should actually work and adjust depending on the light, this doesnt appear to be doing so, at least not when there is alot of light available. This AGC setting reminds me of the days of Super AGC, thats how it is acting. I understand this is one of their less expensive vandal domes, but still .. If anything I expected the IR to be a short distance, not the image to look so bad. I did expect perhaps the colors to be washed out a little it being a Color IR camera onlu, no biggy as I am looking at white anyway in this case! On the plus side, there is no IR reflection. I will try to get some images from it ..

Sounds good then I had a client order a camera and some fixed lenses from some other retail store, they shipped the camera to the Bahamas, then sent the lenses a week later!!

With 2 of the same cameras I get an IR ring. They are both brand new cameras. Basically it is great in the day, and initially works great with IR under pitch dark, but after a minute a distinctive ring begins to appear. Ive tried it indoors and outdoors and same thing (indoors got my eyes flickering also BTW maybe as it was reflecting off a window, it does claim 160' of IR, lets hope i dont go blind ). Everything is factory, I did adjust the dip switches to see if it makes a difference but no change. It is set to the 3.8mm from the factory (seems so). I dont have much time to spend with this camera, which is why Im checking to see if anyone else has used it yet and had the same experience. I can adjust the zoom but dont want to unless I absolutely have to, as then I have to focus it for IR also which id like to avoid (eye issues and all). Any ideas? Camera is clean, never opened, focus not adjusted (factory focus), and it has a fixed ring to prevent the ir reflecting back. Edit, found a similar camera on youtube with the same exact issue, seems this must be just how they are. If so, cant say I would use it again.

Thanks, yeah that sounds correct. Guess for $1200 less then the EX82's we can deal with the ring effect

whats the brand? if its cheap could maybe sell it down here .. or use it to watch my now broke down jeep pictures look good by the way. -
Buy a variation of cameras and some tools and wire and start installing/testing them by your appt/home .. thats one way to learn. Get some after hours jobs for friends etc also so you get a feel for other types of locations. Books are good, but there is always more then one way to skin a cat. Also one can gain a ton of information just by browsing through this forum, lots of ideas from techs that are in the field every day.

You would do it under Exceptions, Add Port. telnet 192.168.1.200 80 Where 192.168.1.200 is the IP, and 80 is the port. Change the IP to your own. From the bit defender website, it claims it has a firewall?

although its been a few years, I used a couple before. Back in the day when they were competing with GE Kalatel .. the DM were not as good IMO, also very overpriced in North America. I cant speak for either of their current models though.

marketing hype??

Hi. That is a very very old version of the GeoVision software, are you certain the card is not a clone? If it is, the drivers do not always work good, and can cause all kinds of issues in many cases. That said, have you tried the camera in question on another port? which shows a camera okay? Also, another thing to test if you only have the one camera, is to test it at the DVR but direct to the test monitor, not connected to the DVR.

Ok actually you can have tcp/ip filtering disabled and that would work the same as enabling it and enabling all. For now I would also uncheck aegis protocol and wlan transport, those I am not familiar with, neither are required for Windows Wireless. I would suggest using the Windows Wireless for now, if your PC has a 3rd party wireless tool installed. Ok port 23 is telnet, but with Windows firewall that is only blocked for incoming requests, not outgoing. Although it should not matter on the client computer, goto windows firewall and add port, name it 23 and set the port as 23. Did you try telnet to port 80 on the DVR? Another thing you could try is reset the windows firewall to defaults. Also, are you sure you are not running another firewall?

3-Goto your network connection .. right click properties, while there take note of other checked items, let us know what they are. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties. Click Advanced. Click Options tab, highlite tcp/ip filtering and click properties. Each check box should say Permit All. 4-I'll have to get back to that, as that gets more detailed. 5-Start, Run, Cmd, telnet IP PORT, eg. telnet 192.168.1.200 80

Mobotix IP cameras vs traditional DVR
rory replied to munque's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
With the DVR you can backup several hours of video from 2 weeks ago, can you do that with the mobotix, without an NVR? 3x DVRs, a fast rack DVR cost approx $400 to build, or one that can handle 32 cameras approx $700, based on 2TB HDD, plus the cards ofcourse and extra HDDs, can then add any camera from dead cheap for low priority areas to higher end for more important capture. Either way, if cost is a factor, the DVR route will be be the best. If you meant NVR, not DVR, then that changes things. -
Ok .. couple other things to check. 1-Hosts File - make sure something is not getting blocked there C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts Open with Notepad, should only be "127.0.0.1 localhost" by default. 2-Check DNS servers in TCP/IP Settings. 3-Check TCP/IP Filtering. All should be enabled by default, and no ports being filtered. 4-Make sure you have no proxy server running. 5-Telnet to the DVR - start, run, cmd, telnet ip port where ip = the ip of the DVR and port = the port of the DVR. If the screen clears then it is okay, otherwise it will give an error. Also, Im not 100% sure if the viewer you use uses Java or not, but its worth updating that anyway. If your viewer says Anytime Anywhere then its an avtech one .. i cant say for certain though still if that uses Java or not, I know their older one, Video Server E did rely on Java and errors with that may result in login problems as well. See this thread for the latest version of Video Viewer though, I think yours is the Avtech one as 1.5 was the older one like I had, this newer one is 1.6.1: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21570 Java: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Roula who posted that thread seems to have alot of knowledge of the Avtech DVRs, also Scorpion who is also a member here also does and has a website up for support: http://scorpiontheater.com/videoviewer.aspx you might want to also ask them, or wait until they come on the forum and see this thread, being a weekend they might have family business to deal with

Windows firewall is a very basic one, shouldnt affect it. But you could use the Windows firewall settings and add the video viewer exe. I use Video Viewer with XP though and its for the Avtech DVRs, never had an issue logging in and I have Windows Firewall enabled. Not sure if this is the same Video Viewer though.

IMO they need to make Axis a standard for streaming video .. they just have it all together .. i wish they could come down on the Day Night IR Bullets a bit though so it could be something close to the non IP ones .. or even a camera at the cost of the cheapest Acti MP camera .. or is that what you guys were talking about with the new HD ones? Im no fan of Acti's streaming. Ofcourse Im a little biased there though as Im just using their activeX controls .. acti's is very heavy and crashes alot inside a 3rd party app. Meanwhile I can stream 30+ Axis cameras without one single issue .. even on a 600Mhz Asus EEPC! I also use Geovision's and its still not as heavy as the Acti's and its stable as well. -
No problem .. yeah they hide the lenses way down under the accessories .. LOL. And when you search the retail stores for example, and use their lenses category they dont list all the products they actually carry, just certain ones they select. Thats why I always go direct to the manufacturer links. I buy from an online retail store myself, price is same as the distributor anyway plus I like the store better.

You shouldnt need to turn off Windows Firewall, at least it is not that good that it would normally stop you logging in. A 3rd party firewall could prevent the program from working properly though. Which one cant you login with, your Laptop with XP or the one with Vista?

Beginner looking for home security, plese help
rory replied to swong46's topic in General Digital Discussion
im going to try put a 1.78mm lens (KLB0178) on a CNB dome on Monday, it originally comes with a 3.8mm fixed lens. its just looking at a small gate though and its mounted right on the wall at the side of it, client wants to watch her dogs eat dinner Actually I ordered that and a 2.45mm lens .. if either dont fit then it will just stick with the 3.8, although the 2.45 should be no problem, 1.7 im not sure as I never used them and it might be too large. Get this though, the retailer shipped the lenses separate from the dome camera, to the Bahamas! I was a little upset -

Looks like the Pano has AGC or the Iris too bright, or its just dirty. Colors look funky also. Someone changed the settings? -
look for KT&C accessories, lenses, KLB0600 Board Lens (f6.0 mm) for Module & Complete Cameras, M12.
-
Sounds like its old code .. never updated for Vista .. nor for IE8. Try IE8 in XP Compatibility mode? Also see if you can telnet to it, if that doesnt work then its a network/port issue for sure and not OS related. use the link in my sig if you dont have an XP computer to do that with.

if you can hit the IP in the browser, but the ActiveX is not downloading .. view the source and look for the cab or OCX file name .. enter that and any extra path it has, after the IP and you should be able to just download it. if its a cab file it should contain the activeX and other relevant dlls or ocx. also normally I would go through the source and see what they are doing .. once you get an idea can either make a new html file and do your own testing .. or even drop it into a VB program and work it that way. It may simply have outdated script. What browser have you tried so far? Also what errors does the client give? Have you tried to telnet to it yet?
