Do wireless IP cameras actually work?!? I DONT THINK SO!
rory replied to billeh's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
that would be pretty shabby then since that jeep image was a camera from 8+ years ago and it only cost $50 plus it was only 380TVL max. Now .. you really should try the KT&C color bullet .. it will blow your mind boss man. -

Then I would have to say there is something wrong with the camera, or your encoder. Ive seen $50 bullet cameras with a better picture then that. Literally, go pick up one of the KT&C Color 550TVL bullets and you would see it blows that image away. -
They stole my car seats Help with new system
rory replied to wolfmanrules's topic in Security Cameras
Yeah I would work on improving the cameras first ... ofcourse garbage in garbage out so if the DVR sucks then that needs some work too .. but deal with the existing camera placement and quality first and foremost. Also, the image looks much lighter then the movie .. do you have the original video from the DVR? Seems like the guy that robbed the car close to the camera showed a good enough shot of his face. -
GV 8.3.3 works on X58 chipset w/i7 proc, 64bit, except audio
rory replied to micksgonefishin's topic in Geovision
Another thing you could do while waiting for them to fix it .. Maybe disable the IP camera's audio altogether and get a small cheap mic .. nothing amazing .. then hook that up to the PC using the mic input and see if that works at all. Actually ive only ever used the audio ports on the DVR cards with Geo so cant say if that would work .. but might be worth a try? I realize it will kill the whole point of audio from the IP cams but just a thought to get it working for now. -
I think he means buy a couple clones, but we dont support that on this forum. I am pretty sure they have to the same identical card when using Geo cards. But I may be wrong. I just remember seeing it in the manual about adding another card, and it shows only the same card as a second one.

A standard true day night would normally all be: High Res (480-550TVL), 60 feet of IR, and with a switching mechanical IR Cut Filter (or ICR). the picture would probably be much better but the IR may not be as much. If you wanted a True Day night with more IR then the cost would normally go right up. The standard True day night may be more then that camera also, I am not sure about the UK pricing. these are examples using the brand called CNB, out of Korea .. it is actually generally a little less expensive then other brands, but still good quality for the price. There are ofcourse many many brands that make these type of cameras, just showing you one of the popular ones: For example of a standard True Day Night IR bullet, 65' max IR http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1030 this one has 164' max IR http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=339 7.5-50mm with 196' max IR http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=417 And to put it into prospective this is a Color+IR similar to the one you listed: http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1034 Well .. it seems to have less IRs but it claims 98 feet of IR, 6mm lens, and low res again. Only major difference is the one you listed is IP67 rated, which is more weatherproof then this ones IP65, IP67 basically meaning you can immerse it in water for up to 1m, so long as you dont drop the IP65 one in a bucket of water should be good to go. But then again cant always go by that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code

rory replied to micksgonefishin's topic in Geovision
under the add camera/audio part is there any audio there? -
If you are in the UK then it should be fine Ok actually going by the specs alone, its low res, but thats common for that price range. IR Distance maybe around 80 feet, maybe more indoors. Its not a True Day Night (or at least it does not say it is), its a Color+IR so colors MAY look washed out. My Mod Note to others: Store links arent allowed here but I think we give eBay a pass as its not really a link to a store.

Same here, saves the client money also

Have you tried CNB's WDR yet? Also looks like they have a new model coming out with WDR and Eclipse in one.

Residential Complex CCTV system, need suggestions...
rory replied to nickCR's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just to clarify, you can do 32 channels with Geovision in a single DVR. Some other DVRs even do 64 with hardware compression cards. Additionally you could use the same wireless you want to use for IP cameras, and using less expensive NON IP cameras, you could use IP video encoders/decoders where needed, or use a mixture of that and wired. Also if one had available existing twisted pair (UTP) running around the complex, it may be able to be utilized for the cameras as well. For example cameras from brands such as KT&C and CNB are very inexpensive but also work great (depending on the model and placement). Additionally you could get much better low light capabilities if that is required. Just offering another solution to the mix. I would also check around and see what other such complexes are using, as that might the best solution for the area you live in. -
hard to tell what it is, but have you checked: http://www.videolarm.com

There are tons of them. First you need to decide what brand and products you want to carry, then find a distributor that carries them. Even with a distributor that knows what they are talking about, they can sell tons of brands and its still up to you to decide what to use. There are also companies, not distributors, that bring in their products from Asia and put their name on it, calling themselves a manufacturer .. they would sell a range of products from DVRs and different types of cameras.. most cases these are smaller companies and will sell direct to you without going through a distributor; perhaps this is more what you are looking for?

Yes it helps .. recall we are talking about when we are home sleeping .. so hear siren get up check cameras get gun or in the other order ... ba da bing! My neighbors never check anyway, dont even know them .. also I have 2 loud sirens and 1 small one outside, and 1 small one inside .. i let everyone and they ma know someone set off my sirens certainly .. in fact physical security is always the first and most important step. dont have ADT here though .. but i installed alarms for several years myself. -

Thats what the siren is for In movies or party if the CMS calls cant hear them anymore then if the alarm calls them .. if the police go there and nobody home they cant get into see if there is a crook in there anyway. BTW i do work for a couple CMS here but still .. I like to keep it real .. most value is when the client is out of town. But also one of the CMS i work for, they give the alarm free and the user just pays for monitoring for a year, same cost as if they paid for the monitoring only. In fact, they are coming to Canada, well they are there already, but monitoring over IP from here: http://freealarmcompany.com/ -
Careful though as some PTZ require their own power supply due to the large current draw, at least with further distances, which doubling up or even tripling up of cat5 normally cant always provide for. Personally I still stick to RG59 Siamese, guaranteed to work every time, and could still run Cat5 along with it, especially for the control.

how to buy a linux-able card
rory replied to pr0n's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Well to be honest I havent tried Hikvision yet, I was looking at them for the linux support, but I was hoping also it would work in other Linux such as Ubuntu, at least to start with as thats what I am familiar with. I Guess its still worth looking at though .. but ill check out the bluecherry and see if that will suit my needs. I have someone that is getting a 4 channel Hikvision card to test anyway, so will still have some time to test it out. -
how to buy a linux-able card
rory replied to pr0n's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Hikvision is all I know of, but I am sure there is alot of other crappy Linux cards and software out there. Hikvision has an SDK, so you can change all the annoying popups. Ive had Windows XP DVRs running for 5 years without a hiccup at all either. Ive crashed Linux many times ... wobbly windows is cool but otherwise its not all that. Only reason to use Linux would be that XP is so expensive now and eventually will not be available, or to browse porn or casino websites. -
suggested cable for long distance
rory replied to mighty12's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
RG 59 Siamese has video (RG59) and power (18/2). Audio you can run telephone cable if you want. (eg. standard 2 pair alarm wire) -
