  1. I did not use the Intellicam, but it is the same DVR, from here: http://xtsvideo.com/viewDetailProduct.aspx?productId=XTS-DVR720-S&categoryId=7 The slimline is the budget one, all cif but one channel. The other one I used had D1 on all channels, but if set to CIF it was just as bad as the budget one. I never use CIF, unless I have a really low priority camera and the clients have small HDD space .. which is almost never as HDDs cost so little these days. CIF is just too small in most cases to be able to get any kind of useful evidence from, but sometimes in a small area with equally low quality cameras it makes little difference. I think this was the 16 channel one I used, same brand from Asia: (older model though) http://xtsvideo.com/viewDetailProduct.aspx?productId=XTS-DVR5616-S&categoryId=7 BTW I didnt test the remote video, just was not interested in it enough .. but I imagine you might be seeing a Dual Stream DVR, which means the network video is seperate from the recorded video, as most DVRs should be, but many cheap budget ones are not. if you get a chance, there is another standalone I want to get my hands on, someone here said they will buy it to test, it would be the Hikvision. They make PC Cards which are hardware compression and which server software works in Linux and Windows. their standalones also look good, which is why I want to test one out. http://www.hikvision-usa.com/ Ive used alot of various stand alone DVRs over the years, including big brands like GE, Everfocus, AvTech, Avermedia, Indigo, OEMed Eclipse CCTV Models, PowerTellecom OEM from Asia, various others .. but just havent found anything I can say I was impressed with yet .. the HDMI on the intellicam type DVR was moderately impressive but then how many clients have or will buy HDMI monitors for their DVR .. I dont know of any myself. The Indigo one currently using for example .. its moderately inexpensive and just works. remote video is high quality, but slow .. single stream .. same as recorded video. I mean when you sit down and think about it, I end up just going back to GeoVision .. even with its flaws and hassles of buying PC parts .. it works great and has all the features. Im looking at testing the Hikvison cards though, so can use it in Linux as eventually XP will be priced out of the market or hard to find, and I literally DETEST Windows 7!
  2. Yeah the CIF recording was very blocky, thats what basically pushed me away from it. The live quality was great.

Need Two Camera - Placing 20ft high.

Cheap cameras with no IR Cut Filter, hence washed out colors. If you want something better, look at the CNB line.
  4. Avigilon 16MP = $15000 Arecont 10MP = $1300 Yup a huge difference! While on the subject, I was at a job the other day totally unrelated to CCTV and they had about maybe 16 total of some vandal arecont domes, they seemed around 1.3 megapixel, and they had 9 of the cameras over wireless, maybe 1-2fps each camera. They had what seemed like 2 systems, both Nuuo, one had a Nuuo DVR card, maybe 16 channel, for a couple old non IP cameras, and the non wireless IP cameras. Seems the 9 wireless cameras were on the other system, perhaps a single wireless tx per camera. What kind of rough retail price do you expect that to cost, parts only? If say the Wireless was a standard consumer based, not mega expensive. They apparently charged the people over 100,000 for that BTW. Just trying to get a handle on how much they ripped them off.
  5. Im afraid im with nobody on this one, I would only ever use wireless as a last resort, it just isnt as good as wired plus consider all the cancer causing stuff the wireless is putting out there
  6. I guess without any real low light performance it will still be good for a very expensive retail store.
  7. Looking for any feedback good or bad, the Blue-i is their eclipse models which masks out the glare from car lights etc. Seems the blue-i cameras havent made it to the USA yet though. thanks
  8. Thats a really loaded question, unfortunately there is no unbiased answer for it.
  9. Does exacq do it or is that just the client? Thanks.
  10. Whats this going to do to the Avigilon 16MP camera?
  11. these guys sell the same brand DVRs intellicam sells .. both are OEMs: http://www.xtsvideo.com I wasnt overly impressed though, only improvement I found over other DVRs I have tested, and its been ALOT of them, is that it has HDMI output which is really amazing quality for live video.
  12. Not NVRs ... Hes talking about PC based DVRs like Geovision, Avermedia, Nuuo, etc.
  13. No need to do that when they have hardware compression DVR cards. As long as the video adapter handles direct draw overlay then good to go. Surprisingly some dellls from only a couple years ago have onboard video which cannot handle dd properly, and then need to use a separate video card, which in those cases were actually already installed by Dell. So basically most current onboard video will work fine.

    LiveVue Geo 1.2

still working on it .. doing the site and group tools now .. once that is done then I can work on the events and extra methods and hopefully at that time get a beta out there for you to try. meanwhile also adding in features as I think of them .. Such as .. one I added in yesterday was "Custom Windows" .. a settings.ini file contains the custom windows such as 720x480, 800x480, etc. which go into the drop down when the program loads, one can just add their own window sizes there or edit the existing ones ... OR the user can manually just enter it into the drop down and hit enter to change to the size they enter .. eg if they enter 10x10 it wont do anything as it needs to be 100x100 or higher .. but it lets them resize it on the fly to a set size within the app without using the settings file. Just another feature I wanted for myself so I added it in Latest is ... Single Window Popout (like Divx Windowed Mode) .. double clicking on OSD opens the camera's video into its own window with additional tools such as to change quality, resolution, etc. This will probably be where i put in super high res, like whatever the max quality/res setting is on the DVR webcam (eg. 640x480/720x480), then set all the other cameras to lowest quality while its in that mode, or give that as an option in there. Im currently testing all this connected to 49 cameras/sites, a mixture of Geo DVRs and alot of Axis Cameras (Mjpeg), and a couple Acti cameras. Also in this window one can resize manually with the mouse or make it maximized. I guess if I had multiple monitors at some point then I could add that option in there to move the window to that, as well as do that for a type of digital matrix for the other cameras as well, options are endless. Below example without any live video just as a sample, but it works the same with the live video. The Axis Mjpeg ActiveX beats the others though, it is so light and fast to display but the video frames can be very slow, especially as in some cases it is megapixel. In fact I think using mostly Axis I could get away with a 100+ multiview. example double click cam 7's OSD (no video for sample or I have to blur it for security) BTW the OSD names change when it connects, uses the DVRs camera name in the case of Geo or the IP/DDNS name in the case of Axis and Acti. then manually resizing that window with the mouse. .

  16. bear in mind the OP is probably looking for a price comparable to the avtech or avermedia 1304 also I had this discussion regarding the atom with thewireguys before, he is mostly using it as a server only, just recording, no live video, also the new atom and I think the one thewireguys is using(?), is supposed to be much faster then the ones used in most netbooks. Its like Intel switching from the Pentium Dual Cores to Core 2 Duos and now they have the Dual Cores again but much faster and less current then the old ones. Also like comapring the old celerons to the new ones. I guess the Atoms will keep getting faster as time goes on. After all its just a name. I was also shocked after using many Atom based netbooks which were dead slow, that he was using that CPU for a video server. thewireguys, a colleague here is very energy conscious and has recently turned his entire alarm monitoring company over to solar, as well as switched out all the computers to imacs ($$$$) ... less current but still core 2 duos ... all in one computers and all wireless network except the monitoring PC. . plus local warranty on them here ... we put XP on most of them BTW due to the software requirements (no bootcamp or virtual) and run them at low power (1.5 ghz). Anyway I am sure him and you would get along on this subject

    The sun!!!

Ok, cheap cameras, bullets and domes, cant handle bright light or glare well, so the more expensive dome you mentioned may work. Otherwise you could try one of the CNB WDR cameras.

    Software Help!

the Geovision GV250 does not exist anymore. Bottom line card is now the GV600. Software is the same for all their cards. You question should address the software though, Ive used both and I much prefer Geo even with its own flaws.
  19. Or, you could splice the cable together, center to center, braid to braid. Seal it up good. There is no "proper" way, they all have their pros and cons. AND it depends where the splice is. Although if there were a standard way to do it, it would be using what Soundy posted.

    The sun!!!

I think any near decent camera will handle that fine. The camera is not actually looking at the sky so perhaps its a reflection from something else. Either way going by the washed out colors and quality of the image I imagine it is a very cheap camera, no IR Cut filter and perhaps 1/4" Sharp, maybe even CMOS? Also, have you tried cleaning the camera, a dirty camera can sometimes cause the issue you are experiencing.

    Dome CNB little help

I hear you, Im in the Bahamas, and cant even find anyone in Florida that sells CNB .. i shop up north and have it shipped down to Miami to a freight forwarder. Its the latin america market that messes it up for us, the distributors in florida like to bring in the cheapest things they can get out of Asia and put their name on it, so they can resell for the lowest cost to export to Latin America (which they count us as btw!). Other then that they sell some larger much more expensive name brands.
  23. ive tried the budget slimline under a different OEM name (they come from Asia). Its okay, live video is amazing using the HDMI. Recording is only cif so its blocked and degraded. They have 1 channel D1 but thats it (in the slimline models, other ones have D1 on all channels but more $$). Ive never used an iphone so cant speak for that. over all its a good unit for the price, had some issues with painting delays on playback but live was fine. Ofcourse as mentioned it was not the actual Intellicam model so dont quote me on that, GUI and DVR look identical though.

    CIF or D1

That depends on what you are trying to capture.
  25. First thing to change is the battery, that is a common error with a bad battery.
