  1. Yeah might as well get them a really good one .. like you mentioned, creative have some good products.
  2. Not sure, but I just put it on a Dell Optiplex 755 with internal audio, no problems but then it is not cutting edge technology as the systems are a few years old with Core 2 Duo 2.3Ghz and DDR2 667, and it is using XP Pro SP3.
  3. I dont think they meant it was "designed" for Windows 7 nor for 64 bit .. they probably just meant it "should work" on it
  4. Hi, perhaps disable the onboard audio in the BIOS and buy a separate PCI sound card instead? Some onboard audio can be very glitchy. Typically you dont want to use the leading edge technology for DVRs though. In most case you will never need what it offers. Also, could be an issue with the 64 bit, maybe load a 32bit OS on it and see if it goes away. Personally I would stick to XP 32 Bit, regardless of how "old" some may consider the OS, it just works and its fast.

The economy is so bad that......

i drive my truck half way to the grocery store and walk the rest. i save half my breakfast for dinner i only shower when it rains
  6. Are you sure about that? For example, with Netvision, they told me to contact someone else in the U.S. up north to buy their cards, not themselves, as I would need to buy from China. Turned out this person sold hikvision cards, but never mentioned anything about whether they came with software, or even Netvision for that matter. And the price is not much less if any to Geovision, so makes no sense to me at this time. Ive also watched the demo video clips recorded from the hik cards from a couple OEMs and I was not impressed, but perhaps they didnt realize the video looked bad?
  7. Yeah thats the biggest waste of money I have seen in a while ... just dont understand why anyone would spend so much money on something like that which is so limited. no USB and no Webcam .. back to the Atari days Anyway, if they really want a tablet then they should at least wait a month or two for the Droids ... and even Ubuntu ones, which blow the Ipad away. Personally I dont like tablets anyway, no real keypad is useless for my computing needs. As for the phone part of it, I dont use them, and as far as Im concerned a pocket PC is pretty next to useless anyway, been there done that. My Eee PC 7" netbook .. I can see all 16 + cameras and not just with a javascript refresh or image push ..
  8. Im no fan of CCTV H.264, its just lower quality, unfortunately that is the way much of the industry has gone these days, lower quality and slower less reliable products. Its like horrid products such as Windows 7 and useless ones such as Ipads, technology is going backwards and yet getting more expensive. Not to mention, try find a Hikvision distributor in the US ... not many of them. Im not really a fan of Aver's software either though. LOL.
  9. Less secure. We disable all Windows Remote Desktop access to DVRs due to increased security risks, not to mention slower and more overlay issues. Like it or not, ActiveX is the best there is for browser based apps as far as features and quality, so it is hardly a "shame" .. but personally I am no fan of Browser based apps anyway, always will be more limited then a full blown client app.

    geovision 800 error

Not sure if 7.05 will even work in Windows 7, but for starters make sure they are an administrator, If I remember correctly that was a common error if one tried to run Geo under a limited user account.
  11. Another hardware compression card that might be worth looking at is the Nuuo one .. its about half the cost of the Geo cards.
  12. The 1240 is software compression. The 2004 and 2008 are hardware compression cards. His hardware compression card may just use crappy compression. Allegedly the hardware compression cards are suppose to be at least better live quality, at least the MPEG2 models. With the lower cost of Hard Drives these days compression should start to get more relaxed and emphasis SHOULD be put more on quality .. but it does not seem to be going that route. Best live quality I have seen to date on any non megapixel CCTV system is from the Intellicam type DVRs with the HDMI output (other OEMs also sell the same units under different names), had it hooked out to a 32" LCD and it was amazing, with a decent camera and the HDMI. The recorded video left something to be desired though and it painted slowly in playback, but it was not an actual Branded Intellicam DVR, it was another name, same look though.
  13. check out KT&C bullet cameras ... inexpensive but okay quality.

    Best pic for $200?

bpzle. you need to talk with your avermedia supplier. here in the uk and in france/spain/germany/irland. if you buy any avermedia with the words hybrid then you also get a free ip camera. bpzle pm me the price you pay for a eh dvr. Seems they dont treat us quite as well on this side of the globe We dont even get the latest and greatest Avermedia ..
  15. As bpzle already mentioned yellow wire is normally video and red is normally power .. braid is normally ground on both of them, if they each have an individual braid. Try the grounds separate first, if no picture then join the grounds together and connect to the DC power supply ground, wont fry it as long as you keep polarity correct. But yes every camera is different.
  16. Anyone seen anything that you can use, say on a laptop, which gives you a meter of the focus, or clarity of the video, telling you when it is best? It doesnt have to be video, could also just be something that compares images, as using the API or ActiveX we could just keep saving images of the video and use those to compare, automatically. Thanks, Rory
  17. Ive used some Extreme CCTV EX82s (now Bosch) which have been on the ocean for approx 10 years now... solid housing ... ofcourse I have also used regular bullets at my own place on the beach but they have been only a few years at a time ... they normally die for other reasons before any real corrosion kicks in. Ofcourse stainless steel screws and caulking should be kept on hand.

i wonder if their app will run on the emulator .. just for grins and giggles

    Help with Resolution

Codec is up to you, depends on the connection. I always use Fast MPEG4 as Geo's H.264 and ASP are both lower quality .. I use the H.264 for webcam on slow connections though. The Geo quality has decreased over the years IMO, they should add back in some higher quality codecs now as hard drive space is so cheap these days.
  20. Tons of Droid tablets coming out that will blow the Ipad away. And for much less $$ Here is another one: http://wepad.mobi/en
  21. Manufacturer IS I-View .. I used them before Geovision, 3 years or so ago, then they seemed to had stopped doing anything ... almost like they had fallen off the map .. dont know if they are current, press stops at may 2009.

    Help with Resolution

yeah for some reason that section doesnt seem to save the info. Not sure if 8.3.3 is using the same codec as the Remote Viewlog HTTP server now ..

    Help with Resolution

Actually this is a good question to ask in this thread .. in 8.3 anyone know where the webcam codec setting has been moved to? Benny this could be affecting your remote video quality also, if its H.264 then its going to be very bad quality, but good for slow connections. I need to take another look today but for the life of me I could not find a setting for the webcam's codec in 8.3.3, its not where it use to be, by the webcam quality setting.

    Geovision 1480 cameras 9-16 issues.

For Geo's sake lets call it the Pigtail, a Dongle is something used for software authorization, and Geo needed those in older versions, and still uses it for some new optional features, so it may confuse some people. Make sure the cameras are enabled. Goto Camera enable and check the box for that input, if it is unchecked then check it and restart Geo, then enable the camera by checking the enable camera box for that camera.
