Check your lighting, as it differs from one to the next, but in most cases an Exview Black and White camera will be the best (not the high res version) - color at the entrance and car parks. You will find it hard to get a dome in that, but you could buy the mini BW exview cube cameras from KT&C then put those in any housing, dome, or anything you want. We use mostly the Bullets though and place them higher up, they are black housings so people cannot see them. You could also add IP video servers/encoders to them if needed, then you still can use Cat5 and NVRs.

Look into your forum username, and try the first part of it viewtopic.php?f=12&t=19615 Or, install basic XP in a virtual world such as Vmware, or install full using bootcamp.

Where did you hear this? We use them in Bars and Night clubs, and other locations where cheap color IR cameras wont work or True Day Night cameras are too expensive for the app. Also we prefer lower resolutions of 420TVL as it can see more in low light then the 600TVL equivalents.

If you have upgraded to 8.2 or above on the DVR server, then you may be able to use an older Multiview now ... something pre 8.3. I know the 7.0 activeX control works with 8.2+.

DVR System Upgrade to Win 7 and Non Intel / Nvidia mainboard
rory replied to pochrist's topic in AverMedia
related threads: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20177 viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18787 viewtopic.php?f=43&t=19075 (there are many more like these) viewtopic.php?f=36&t=19622 viewtopic.php?f=36&t=8059 Just for info, I actually had a Geovision GV250 running on AMD before (my old old AMD HP) but that was their most basic card, the others typically had issues with the Via and Sis chipsets. -
DVR System Upgrade to Win 7 and Non Intel / Nvidia mainboard
rory replied to pochrist's topic in AverMedia
Its pretty much the same with almost ALL DVR cards. Its a given in this industry, I haven't touched an AMD system in years, no issues though. There is a reason why many people charge to build systems specifically for a certain purpose, such as in this case, a DVR, because they know what can run it (supposedly anyway). Lets face it, Windows 7 runs like crap on a 600Mhz CPU system, but XP runs, well, good ... so if thats the case ... im going to tell you run XP .... and if you choose to run Windows 7 .. you are on your own boss. PS. if you run Linux, even better!! -
Here is one idea: http://www.eclipsecctv.com/ECL-555_dome_camera.html Though having used them before, the picture is god awful, but they are cheap enough to chuck the camera in the trash and buy a better mini cube camera made by KT&C and put that inside it. The link above is the smallest they have, the following one is nicer looking, but a little bigger (still smaller then most domes though) and if you order the same size camera module then it would be more inconspicuous due to the black plastic assembly: http://www.eclipsecctv.com/ECL-555C_dome_camera.html The KT&C camera would be very low power consumption also. http://www.ktnc.co.kr/english/viewtopic.php?t=433 http://www.ktnc.co.kr/english/viewforum.php?f=88 Thats the smallest domes I know of, though I am sure there are others just like them as they are mostly OEM from Asia. Like I said though, the image is going to suck in them, want to replace the guts with something better. It only takes seconds to change those out in most cases, and any CCTV tech should be able to handle it. Oh yeah, there is also CNB though not sure of the size, but they have a high res in what they claim is 68mm, I think that is around 2.6": http://www.cnbtec.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=102 Other then that, bigger domes and bigger box cameras will get you a better image overall. If you want a really good picture, check out the Panasonic CP484 box cams.

IP Surveillance over Internet
rory replied to firassh's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hi, If you are good in IP, then DDNS should be simple for you. It is very easy, sign up for an account at somewhere like DynDNS.com (or whichever is supported in your IP device), add a new name, then add that name and login into the router (or IP device) you are using - most have DDNS built in. Some devices even have their own DDNS type system, much like NOIP.com, so then you just enter an id when using their software and it checks their site's database online somewhere. Lots of options available. Good luck! -
25+ 2megapixel camera monitoring/recording! Please help.
rory replied to kt00's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
IMO I dont see any good reason to use an Atom in anything but a netbook. The Atom is like a celeron, really not designed to do anything much at all, replaced the celeron in netbooks for less power consumption and less heat. Can just use a core 2 or pentium dual core and its much faster then the atom, day and night, still power consumption is very low. MP cameras are not exactly cheap so cant see it being a price point? But I think he was only doing the Atom system as a test anyway, not for production. Exaqt is doing it but with linux on an SSD, and it seems to only be a server, no live video like we are used to in the CCTV industry. -
25+ 2megapixel camera monitoring/recording! Please help.
rory replied to kt00's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Not for live video though right? If so, can you post some screen shots and system build specs? thanks -
It appears to be legit. Software version is current, 8.3 Another thing to look at is the Resolution, on clones it is typically max of 640x480, while Geo can do 720x480 . Also the clones dont always have the up to date compression types.

Thats an illegal card, most on that site are, we cannot discuss them here sorry. Geovision is a decent brand, there are many others also.

If I go that route, its normally bartpe .. otherwise I like to get down and dirty and do it manually or run scripts I write on the fly ... for imaging .. i only ever use "snapshot" http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/ http://www.bahamassecurity.com/usbdisktools.asp

Not to fond of their prices and products myself ... they need to send it to latin america if they really want to sell them .. name brand wise I think its all Bosch or Panasonic now .. even GE seems to have been kicked to the curb.

Funniest one is the client that calls you and admits they were browsing porn sites and they say the PC is a little slow .. something about a red exclamation mark and a popup about buying some internet security thingy, bout how they used that internet security thingy to "scan" their drive for "malware" .. but they never installed that internet security thingy .. it just magically appeared one day

LOL yep ... nortons is the biggest one .. Facebook i stay clear of anyway .. Still so many come from Porn and Free game sites ... and alot of free software is plagued with adware or malware, even some of the well known players, they like to include toolbars left and right and make it hard to click No dont install ! Many get it as easy as being on a chat site and clicking a link someone posts, and then using an IE or FF vulnerable version or with some other plugin that is broken, they get infected. I mean click OK to cancel or Exit to close.. so they click OK and then WHAP!!

Thats basic stuff Its all over the code forums anyway ... in fact I think I posted alot of it in the past, and im sure some of the code examples are even on my website, but its also used for legit reasons! Also alot of that can be done manually in the registry. Many times when fixing PCs loaded with malware Ive still had to manually go in the registry and fix some things which the Anti-malware apps dont fix. Dont worry I am no genius, I still have to use google sometimes to find where in the registry some things are

Hi Mike The thread was removed as I cannot vouch for 8.3 versions which seem to have alot of "issues"compared to previous versions, and also more persons have begun to use Windows 7 which the article was not made for. Original version here though, still good for XP: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/tweakgeovision.asp though additionally I have setup XP with even less services, and Geo 8.12 has been fine for a long time on those DVRs. One can use my eServices tweak app and at the minimal just check the firewall and audio boxes and it should perform good. I also changed the desktop and startmenu items but that could be a personal customization anyway based on the installer. So essentially the only real change are the services. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/eservicesxp.asp If unsure one could do a full XP install and just do the other tweaks. Dont forget the Recovery DVD or Recovery USB/SDCard.

In the case of AVG and AVGfree, it is still their full software which others pay for, but minus support, and minus additional add on modules such as some added malware protection .. other wise .. its all I use now .. never had a problem .. also use it to clean PCs ... I cant speak for the wider definitions though. I know that several infected PCs ive been to had MacAfee on it, but cant say if they had been updated recently or not. But there is alot more to cleaning a PC of malware then just an anti-virus or anti-malware program so I dont solely depend on them anyway .. we use cleaners and also have to many times go deep into the registry and really manually clean the drive up good, depending how infected the system is.

Cat5E cable concern over contractor installation
rory replied to tdrinkwater's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Some UTP manufacturers recommend no more then 750' for passive, so its a good idea to install active. Personally I would use Active for anything over a couple hundred feet anyway, but thats me. I cant afford to go back to the job and reorder active, waiting another 2-4 weeks for the product to arrive, if the passive did not work. Ofcourse make sure that is really the problem, make sure it is powered correctly, the camera is good, and the connectors are connected properly. Thats their job ofcourse. -
Virus Writers can get around ANY Anti-malware application. I had to remove Nortons manually a few times recently (to install AVG HA HA) .. its not that hard, even though its probably the most difficult one to remove. If you can do it manually, its even easier to remove it using code. Once they cripple the anti-malware program then the sky is the limit for them ..! I dont think I would be using a Microsoft Anti-malware program any time soon though ... I just dont trust them enough

Retail price is probably around that, depending on the model. Yes they are supposed to be one of the better ones, the cheap no name ones (OEM) dont always last as long or perform as good. There are other cheaper brands that probably do perform well but its a gamble most of the time when dealing with those. I am not sure about your application, but have you looked into a Megapixel camera? That way there would be no moving parts and can zoom in after the fact - but typically need alot of light.

Good manufacturers of Height-Strip cameras
rory replied to melisandeneowald's topic in Security Cameras
I just saw one in a bank here the other day, at the door, the top of it was way below my height, so really, any people entering the bank should be able to realize that particular one is serving no purpose. -
Just curious what it is, dont have a card to play with but saw it on someone elses 8.32 system (all my systems are primarily 8.12 as that was Geo's last great build IMO), and they were wondering if they could use it to backup video? See nothing about it on Geo's site either. In fact, overall GeoVision has very poor literature on their software, online. Thanks, Rory

Good manufacturers of Height-Strip cameras
rory replied to melisandeneowald's topic in Security Cameras
Those (from EyeSonic.ca) look like nice products right? I guess, but I could think of many other places to put a camera. The height strip serves no purpose in most places, but if you want one, it would be cheaper to buy the height strip then add your own camera, I reckon? (not knowing the cost of basic height strips myself).
