Has anyone tried Windows 7 with Geovision

I have an SSD in my XP laptop, have had it for a couple years now, its the very first netbook. What problems did you have with XP and your SSD? The thing is, you have to get the best ones, or most expensive ones, to get the speed, most people just cannot afford that. Less expensive ones are still just as slow or slower then HDDs. XP is working great with even my slow 20 mbs SSD by the way, 8 second boot time That said, I would love to get one, but i would rather a new ride first .. anyone?? Oh yeah, thing is you guys keep speaking of i7 systems, most consumer based computers coming with windows 7 these days dont have any hardware close to that, we are talking atoms and cellerons and on the low end of the pentium dual core with 1GB of ram, some with 3GB - the systems just arent ready for Windows 7 IMO, or it is not ready for them. And that is new computers, Ive worked on at least 10 computers in the past week and all of them have been less then a P4 2.8 Ghz, several were 2.12 Ghz P4 and some were celerons. I guess maybe it is the economy or the area, but many people are just not upgrading their computers these days, they want the existing ones fixed, which with XP it is fine. Heck, tonight I am wiping a brand new Atom Eee PC that came with Win 7 and loading XP on it, so that it will be blazing fast and easy to use Anyway .. thats just my 10 cents

    Which cctv testing tool?

Unless I have a zoom lens I normally pre focus it in a controlled environment. As yes carrying them up ladders can be a pain . I use to carry a 13" TV up the ladder though .. LOL .. but the 9" CCTV monitor was much easier (its blown now, need a new one). Problem with most 13" TVs now, hard to find, and then they dont always have the handle.
  4. Another possibility is that there is something wrong with the DVR, like the firmware. You could try update that if the manufacturer has that option. Also, could be a bad USB port, maybe dust got inside, happens to computers all the time, or even a bad USB drive - does the DVR speak anything about formatting the USB drive as fat32 or Fat16? If it is Fat32 now then maybe try it as Fat16.
  5. The camera is powered separate from the controller, normally need a dedicated PSU for those. Im not sure of the actual voltage and amps it requires but if you dont have the Kalatel PSU for it ( they sell them specifically for their cameras) you could find a 3rd party PSU from somewhere that has the same power specs. Sounds like they sold you the controller and camera but no power supply for the camera. When I ordered their cameras in the past I always just bought their PSU and powered it locally at the camera (weatherproof PTZ PSU box).
  6. To the OP. They are pretty easy to install. Are you an installer or is this something you dont normally do? Might be able to talk you through it if you are just having problems.
  7. this has been discussed before, over and over and .. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8386 viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6964 viewtopic.php?f=6&t=908
  8. Does the installer have the Camera Master? Are they incorrectly focusing using an LCD? Does the installer drive a truck or a van? Did the installer quote the job in the day and at night? Did the installer use a viewfinder? These are all silly questions really, except for quoting the job in the day and night, depending on the camera placement. And ofcourse is using an LCD to focus cameras then it is not being done right at all. But you seem to be suggesting that by not having a tool to do compression connectors, which are not necessary hardware for CCTV, that they dont have the tools to do the CCTV job, and if so that is totally incorrect. Forget connectors for a second, just tie the cables together and then this entire debate means nothing, cause that is better then any connector can ever be!
  9. If they can remove my twist ons, then they are good. I dont even bother, I end up cutting the cable. But If it were to happen they get charged for a service call, just as if they messed with anything else. Additionally BNC compression connectors are hardly available in this country, Twist On BNC Connectors can be bought from pretty much anywhere these days. As mentioned, I have NEVER had to go back to any of my connections, EVER. I mean if they are messing with things, they could just as easy pull the plug on the DVR or Mess up the camera. Arguing over this is the same as saying never put the DVR on the network, it makes no sense. The customer IS getting quality with Twist On BNCs no matter what anyone says, but still, we should look beyond that, are these installers that are using Compression connectors, also using Professional Box cameras, or are they using Toy Domes and Bullets?? One could ponder this in all different directions.
  10. It will only give that appearance to someone that knows nothing about CCTV. So I would not worry about them.
  11. We will have to agree to disagree then. I have never EVER had to fix any of my connections, ever. One cannot compare Cat TV twist ons to BNC twist ons, they are completely different. Twist on BNCs are used by CCTV professionals, anyone that says otherwise is simply out to tarnish the reputation of other installers and it is not a good idea. Also, while you are cutting off connectors (and shortening the cable) why not change the cameras to some Professional Box cameras, get rid of those little toy domes and bullet cameras that so many DIYs use. Also, pull out all that flimsy cat5 cable and baluns and put in some solid siamese cable. And place the DVR in an air cooled lockbox, fire proof. Dont connect that DVR to the network either or it can get hacked.
  12. There is no reason why a twist on would fail more then a crimp on once both are done correctly. If that is what you are suggesting? Anyone that says a quality install can not be done using twist on BNCs is simply wrong, but they are certainly entitled to their opinion.

What does it use? It has to use something, Javascript?
  14. That is correct, however the same could be said about Crimp Ons. It really is up to how good the installer is, regardless of which connector is used.
  15. That is incorrect. If one uses RG59 connectors on RG59 cable, and puts it on properly, one can literally hang from it, and it will never come off. But we have gone over this topic before.
  16. Ok sorry my bad. Could try to simply tape them to make sure they are not grounding out (touching each other) Or splice them so there is no connector at all, ground to ground, center to center. they are most likely going to both be RCA type braid cable so look for some crimp type connectors that alarm companies use, called beenies. Or goto Radio Shack and pick up some heat shrink tubing and use that instead.
  17. Well you have a couple choices: 1-Splice the existing cable and add a short piece of RG59. 2-Change the cable for Rg59 Siamese one time, just visit your local electrical store and they should carry it, ask them for video cable, Siamese, they even sell it down here now, and its not that expensive (40 cents a foot but we are 3-4 times the US cost). In both cases make certain the cable is copper in and out and solid center, should be with the siamese but who knows what RG59 they have lying around. then add a twist on BNC connector done properly, you might find them at the same electrical store or even a local computer store. Bottom line is that all in one cable is a problem, cheaper in some cases but can cost more in the long run. If you have a local source for really good Cat5 Baluns then you could also look at going that route now, if you might want to upgrade to IP/Megapixel cameras at some point in the future. OR, if you can afford it, and if you are going to rerun Rg59 Siamese cable now, then perhaps pull some cat5 along with it one time. If the runs are short and easy though then dont even worry about it, just pull the RG59 Siamese, you could always use that to pull new wire later. Oh yeah, I ONLY use Rg59 Siamese cable right now ... but eventually cat5 might be the way to go. Either way, even for budget jobs, I use RG59 Siamese instead of the all in one budget cables, its just cheaper and twist on BNCs are more accessible here. If you do the twist on BNC right, that will last for years.

How can you spot a fake GeoVision card?

There are alot of fake Geovision cards all over Ebay, using cracked GeoVision software. So I think their main goal as a software company is to have all authorized resellers only sell from their main sites ... then again I dont know ... if the reseller sold it under their company name and linked to their site, and it is approved by Ebay .. it should be okay .. anyway I guess that is their policy, hey, some DVR companies dont even allow their resellers to sell the card separate, eg. Kodicom. Personally, i would love to see the price come down. also, though I can vouce for 8.1x versions of their software as blowing other DVR software out of the water, their 8.3x does not impress me, if anything the foot print is WAY too heavy and one needs a much more powerful PC .. that annoys me, much like what MS and Mac have done .. and other developers even Nero and such, software too slow to be worth using. In Comparison, Ubuntu runs laps around [stripped down super tweaked] XP on my Eee PC .. and even has Desktop Cube and Wigly Windows! BTW you might want to check out Nuuo for Hardware Compression, their 16 channel hardware compression card is half the price of Geo's hardware compression card (sorry geo but really, that price is ridiculous). I cant say how their software is, but they seem to be competing with Geo now so they have tons of features, and it does run fine on a slower (3 ghz P4) system.

hahaha am I the only one that caught that? awesome The problem I see with "browser" based remote clients for DVRs/ NVRs is most I've played with require Active X, meaning IE ONLY! Bummer. Not to mention they have to run some sort of plug in which requires admin rights and loose internet security settings... The average web user probably won't know how or have the patience to tweak all the settings, or know to hold down that "shift" to disable the pop up blocker... I have a feeling this client is thinking of something as clean and simple as YouTube. Probably wants something ANYONE can navigate to and the video "embedded" to the web site. Well, I know what won't work... out of my league to know what will. I dont know anything about flash as I looked at it a few years back and it could not do anything much and definately could not do what activeX could do, but now it seems to have total control (dangerous really) .. that might be what you are looking for .. no idea why no manufacturers have not hired flash coders and gone that route yet. Ofcourse there is always Javascript .. Axis has really done a good job with their streaming, even their activeX control is sooo light and can stream video from pretty much any of their cameras .. i was testing it in my app along side the Geo activeX ... Axis blows Geo away in that regard.
  20. I still cant over that Bosch owns them now .. anyway yes the EX14 for sure. For the walk in fridge, a simple weather resistant bullet camera should suffice for the lower budget (not 100% sure a vandal dome will hold up as its not sealed).

Not sure about Nuuo, but as they are competing with Geo I would hope they do.
  22. dont bother. If you can once every so often delete everything (format, but you loose all video) and then no defrag needed but i would not even hurt my head over it. As mentioned one could defrag the OS drive but then set the page file to a fixed size max and min and it wont get that fragmented anyway. Log files and database updates etc can cause some minor stuff as well as recyclebin but anytime you work on that stuff just do a quick cleanup - I always install 2 programs on my DVRs, CleanUp! and CCleaner - and I run them whenever I am called to do something, most times there is nothing really to clean up though, as the System is not used for anything but a DVR and its also heavily tweaked. My DVRs are super tweaked as I learned from working with slow SSD netbooks.

Has anyone tried Windows 7 with Geovision

Sounds too expensive for me We pay duty on computer parts now, then plus shipping .. one day though I agree as I was looking at the new SSDs and their speed specs are amazing. I have used raptors before and they are fast but noisy and still dont come close to those faster SSDs.

I agree with one you mentioned, Quickbooks .. the rest though are quick and easy. Trust me, I do it every other day (I hardly ever install quickbooks though). But yes, Quickbooks is a bit longer. However, I know nothing of this patch you speak of, I just installed and activated it. I did not say install the OS in 20 minutes, I mentioned installing the APPS. not even component drivers. I have all the apps ready to install from USB hard drive, but thats me. As mentioned it will never work the way it was before with Win7. Ok yes .. time to move on.
