  1. Although a box camera can normally be a better image, I wouldnt count out the vandal dome just yet, for that location at least. As with all camera types, some domes can be awful. One thing you could do is gut the dome and install a mini cube camera into it, something like a KT&C mini cube camera. Otherwise, try a better dome, a vandal resistant one but from a decent brand - and dont go for the cheapest model, as they all sell their budget version, which is budget for a reason. There are some corner mount vandal housings for box cameras, or dome/ceiling mount also.
  2. Nope, nothing like this exists. As mentioned you may be able to get the SDK or ActiveX for each DVR, or some of them, but then you would essentially need to create your own program, or as also mentioned, you could use the web browser. SDKs are limited on many DVRs and only option in most cases is the ActiveX control, which in most cases also is limited or have their own issues. For example, with GeoVision you need a separate ActiveX Conrtrol for each camera ... that gets very heavy, and that is only one DVR (I am using an older version of their ActiveX control just to make it lighter, but it is still heavy). IP cameras are much easier to deal with though, Ive used the Axis stuff and it is soooo light and quick, basic jpeg stream though, but it works. And speaking of which, I am currently working on a Mixed GeoVision - Axis remote viewer. From there, I may look at including other DVRs. Sorry I cant help you right now though.

    Good manufacturers of Height-Strip cameras

Please explain, because that has no bearing on this thread.
  6. Looking for image samples if anyone has used this camera. Its a KT&C model. KPC-VSN700NH Im looking for something small to replace the guts of some very bad mini dome cameras - dome itself is great, camera really really sucks, even though it claims to be CCD. Thanks!

    Good manufacturers of Height-Strip cameras

Doubt they can, well, maybe in the US. But I saw that type of camera from before 2003. Besides, they didnt invent the height strip, and anyone can place a camera inside anything they want.
  9. Also, before you spend a fortune, make sure they will work in your lighting conditions.
  10. I was just going to say, check out the KT&C cameras. They have to be the largest maker of mini cameras, they have tons of them. BTW that 0.05 Lux / Faceplate, is really 0.5 Lux.
  11. looking for a reason to hit Miami Beach hey?

How can you spot a fake GeoVision card?

At that $US price, it must be either fake, stolen, 2nd hand, or bad. Thats 5 times less then the average dealer cost, in fact that is cheaper then pirated copies of Anykeeper out of Hong Kong.
  13. Ok thanks. Specs on that camera; http://www.q-see.com/products/security-product.php?ProductId=59 A couple things to note that are out of the ordinary for most CCTV cameras, but should still not cause a problem, typically: RCA for Video, also it has Audio. 50ma Power Consumption - I have to say I have never seen a camera that low before. I dont know, another thing I guess to check is that there is not some PAL/NTSC issue.
  14. I cant see them saying that, even though it doesnt provide you with an answer, I am using CMOS with a Geovision card right now .. I just checked it today, still working fine - okay crappy cameras, but there is video signal. I guess at this point, we have asked all the normal questions, so time for some different ones. When you have it connected right near the DVR for testing, what voltage does the camera have, what PSU is being used for the camera, and what is the camera's current draw? If there is any kind of telco, cat5, or RCA cable being used anywhere for the video or the power, we need to know. Can you post the camera model number.
  15. Ok, but do any other cameras work with the card? Can you try a TV input if you dont have other cameras? Just want to see if its not a bad card, or something else.
  16. Yeah gas is pretty bad, $4.30 a gallon of the crappy gas and we sit in traffic inhaling horrid emissions due to no emission regulations, burning up all that gas, as some little shacks have but 1 single room for a family of 20 and no running water but can afford 10 cars!
  17. Yes you are correct. Many times the PTZs are powered locally also. They could use it for Video and Data though.
  18. Why? Nowhere else to go. What is? Rum is cheap if you drink ..
  19. Here is another option, I have never used it so cant say how good it is, but NVT is well known: http://www.nvt.com/content.php?type=product&key=218a&cid=root
  20. Ok sounds normal. Do any other cameras work on the Geo Card? Where the cameras dont work, is it video lost or is there something else, like blue or pink?
  21. Trust me, it is much worse elsewhere
  22. Some manufacturers make flush mount LCDs, eg: http://www.totevision.com/Second/ToteVision%20-%20FLUSH%20MOUNT%20MONITORS.htm
  23. QSee? Oh my. How are they being powered? What type of connectors and cable?
  24. Sometimes if a camera signal is not strong enough, it wont work in Geo. Check the camera directly at the DVR, powered there and with a very short piece of video cable, and see what you get. Also, what kind of connectors and cable are you using, and what are the typical distances of these cameras that are not working with Geo? Do they work when you plug them into something like a TV at the end where the Geo DVR is?
