What hard drive and how many will be in there in total? just leave them empty and it should partition it itself. make sure the correct ones are set to master and slave. -

they are probably busy driving that porshe you paid for Can you not just set the time zone manually? -
There is USB Backup, but could not get that to work. It didnt seem to see my USB jump drive. The network software is tedious, you search, find a time, has some thumbnail thing but that is very slow, and then eventually backup. Its been a while but I just remember it being very tedious. And need their player to play the file, but if I remember correctly that allows you to then save it as AVI but in low quality. This other one i tested, lets you backup straight to AVI over the network, as well as setup the DVR and even Motion masking, even in the less expensive 4 channel. Nothing is perfect though.

also, the other thing I dont like about the EB1304 is the evidence sharing .. sorry that is a pretty major issue! Its network playback software is very lame, at best. HOWEVER, it still blows away the AvTech DVRs in that respect

GeoVision / Avermedia: Are these the best consumer DVR Cards
rory replied to mpr86's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Hi, yes especially with the Combo cards you can benefit with the Quad core, according to Geo. Im using Core 2 Dual Core 2.2, and 2.4, or greater now, and Pentium Dual Core 2.5/6, and it still works great, mostly real time recording, if not it is close to it (eg. 15-20fps can be seen as real time by the human eye), and using smart motion recording. Definitely you would want to buy a Dual Core now, even if it is just a Pentium Dual Core, which is the cheapest CPU that can handle the Geo 8.3 software right now - 8.3 takes alot of CPU and memory, it is much much slower then the older versions which could have run and I have running on 2.4 celerons (old celerons). I would not use a Dual Core Celeron, the price of the Pentium Dual Core is not much more. Obviously a Core 2 would be better, but we cant always get what we want, depends on the budget. Quad Core and above is up to you. Add lots of Ram, the more the better. If you can afford large fast SSDs, that would be great .. LOL .. I doubt it though so ... 7200rpm is fine .. in fact the new noisy 500GB 7200rpm drives from Western Digital, I clocked it as fast as a 150GB Raptor, approx 80mb average read, compared to previous 55mb read speeds. Not sure of the writes though they were also greater. They were too noisy for me though, but they were fast. Imagine the 220mb Solid State drives (limited writes though, not sure how long they would last until failure if writing everyday), perhaps an 8GB Solid State for the OS (that is plenty for an XP OS drive) and DVR specific or even standard 7200rpm drives for the storage. Ignore the PC recommendations on their site, they are probably old, 8.12software was much faster and required lesser hardware, and same with earlier versions such as 7.xx. The P4 3.0 would struggle with Geo 8.3 software, I have the P4 3.2 and tested 8.3 on here, so thats how I know. the 2.8 would definitely have issues also, at least if you are going to be operating it such as live monitor and playback on the PC. If it is only a recorder you could get away with it. Then you could use Remote Viewlog over the network to view it, though that would raise the CPU cycles somewhat, not sure. -
The local EB1304 quality is great. The biggest downfall to that EB1304 DVR is the remote video, and also the lack of motion masking. I recently tested an 8 channel that blows away the EB1304 for probably a couple hundred dollars more, and has D1 recording on all channels. 4 channel DVRs with all D1 are rare. The manufacturer (OEM) link is: http://www.vsionis.com Yes they have a 4 channel but it is only D1 on 1 channel and CIF on the other 3, uses the same multi site software or browser activeX also. It is half the cost of the EB1304. Not sure on who sells them, I was using a couple demo units, its a new OEM company so would need to search, but testing came out great, I dont see it having any issues.

Hi Spiro. Sorry I have never used that program, though by the looks of it, it is for IP cameras only, so perhaps it will connect to the Geovision IP Video Servers and IP cameras, but probably not the DVR. Also, Ive never used any form of Mobile software for Geovision, to be honest the mobile transmission technology down here is far behind that of the US and other countries. In fact I dont even use a cell phone anymore, but thats for other reasons. Back to Geo, 8.32 release fixed the ActiveX bug that I had originally mentioned, I can now use the 7.0 ActiveX with 8.32 and above, and 8.2 and lower. Why would I want to use the 7.0 ActiveX?? Same or better quality, but more importantly, it is so much lighter. For example it could be a difference of 2-3 seconds per control to open up, compared to the 7.0, so when you have 16-64 controls (one per camera, is how Geo works), thats a big delay. Only way around it would be for one to use the SDK Geo supplies to create their own webcam Server installed on the DVR, but that is just not feasible. This ofcourse is for the DVRs, the IP cameras operate different. Sorry if I went off topic, I just wanted to clear that up as well.

Its important to note i had issues with well known american made baluns and expensive brand name 24VAC box cameras at short 150' runs, so although it is probably rare these days, there is always that "chance". Also, not all cameras can be powered over cat5, one prime example is the EX82 from Extreme CCTV (Bosch), at 50' it fails at night even with power tripled up. But the 24VAC non high power IR cameras probably work fine, in fact I have a 10' piece of cat5 spliced on the end of BNC to my personal 12VDC IR bullets (less then 400ma current draw with IR on) now with no image problems (ran out of coax when moving them and had to extend the cable with what i had lying around ). I think the baluns these days are probably alot better then the ones I had issues with several years ago. So yeah Soundy is pretty much correct Maybe Soundy can recommend the baluns he uses? -

How to setup ACTI camera for different lighting conditions

What we need is a color IP bullet like that, then mount a BW Exview Bullet camera underneath it .. actually mounted to the bracket .. then using some kind of photo cell enabled switcher, switch the video signal between the 2 of them .. oh wait one is IP the other is BNC .. ok .. will need some more work but ... thats the general idea ... need a cheaper IP bullet though .. maybe the color acti indoor 1.3 camera in a custom cheap housing? -

And hence why I wont spend the dollars on them yet, thats 4-5 times the cost of an equivalent non IP camera, which has better low lighting I was looking at these same bullets actually .. but i just figured it wont do what i want .. and you proved that with the image above. -
from GE to Extreme CCTV to Many others I havent seen a Vandal Dome Cover that doesnt scratch easy. WizKid's definately scratches the easiest I have seen yet .. strange as it is suppose to be able to take blows from heavy trucks ... but scratches nearly disable the cameras. Oh yeah, another thing, dont use paper towel or glass cleaner with ammonia, both of those help to scratch them. As to the image, interesting, there is color but its blury/not sharp, I imagine its probably like Exview with SSDR, hence the missing pixels making it look blury. Have you tried any Exview color cameras yet? If you will try one, check out Exview Box cams to make sure you get the best Exview chip, as the Exview bullets tend to use the cheaper one, there are a number of variations with a wide price range.

Im not too familiar with that, but here is an example from one particular DVR company: http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/3_1.asp?stable1=Pro&sfiled=pgid&pno=28 Examples of other features that come with DVRs: http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/3_1.asp?stable1=Pro&sfiled=pgid&pno=33 http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/3_1.asp?stable1=Pro&sfiled=pgid&pno=32 http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/3_1.asp?stable1=Pro&sfiled=pgid&pno=34 http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/product/GV-SystemV8300_Feature.htm Other DVRs will have similar if not the same or even more features. BUT, big but, basic DVRs especially the lower end stand alones, typically wont have anything close to the features available in the links above. -

are you sure its not just water marks? If you take the cover off do they go away? ps. If its an IR bullet Camera I would expect it to have something to block the IR, so check for the rubber ring. -

The quote just doesnt sound right, we may be missing some info though, but we can only go by what he is telling us. The equipment alone makes me think they were just told what to sell by their distributor, probably ADI or Silmar. Could be totally wrong, but we are not here to just sit back and say nothing so ... -

Ask them: 1-Is the CVC-6700 a high res camera - if they say yes you know they are full of it. While on that camera, should ask them why they are quoting you a cheap 1/4" low res camera. Additionally as it is has a sunshield it is obviously going outside, if not then why they are quoting a color bullet camera with a sun shield (there are many other choices), and if going outside, will there be full light at night - otherwise it wont see anything as going by the specs it has 1 lux color and needs daylight type lighting. 2-I cannot find any camera on Speco's website with the model number CVC-650 - perhaps it is very outdated, and if so, why are they quoting you that? 3-CVC-60 - pretty much the same as #1 Ive had issues using baluns, quality and overall image loss, others say they have not. I try not to use them. Some are better or worse then others. NVT has some decent high end priced stuff. Active (amplified) any brand would be best. Quality drop on passive baluns is typically greater then that of Coax or starts decreasing at a lower distance, but it still depends on the brand of balun, cat5, and other factors. You can amplify coax out to 2000-3000', with cat5 and or cat6 UTP transmission being amplified out to 1.5-3 miles. But as for Coax and IP, i would use Cat5, I dont see any reason to use coax for networking unless that is what is there currently and you want to utilize that for a network? Yes the cameras are BNC. very few actually come with UTP built in and the ones that do would typically only come that way if you order them specifically. About analog cameras, see my sig. Basically there are choices out there, there is no one way to do it, you have to choose what you feel is best for your application, and what you can handle. As mentioned you could also see if there are any free telco pairs you can use, depending on where they are located in proximity to the cameras. -

No, not installed. I dont know what an electrician will charge in your area. Typically to run just the cable here, approx $25 per run, maybe more, normal distances only. Whoever is installing the conduit should be pulling the cable, whenever it involves conduit, i use an electrician. I have no idea about Workers comp, does not exist here. I have no idea about Access control, I just sub that part out to locksmiths. -

$5 per 10' of conduit, 200' per camera, 20 x 10' pieces of conduit per camera, $100 per camera, approx $5200 for all camera conduit? that cost of wire you posted is cheap though, down here it is at least 3 times that. But in Miami yep it might be that.
