i think they meant it as they said it, there are Cat5 cameras, with built in Baluns basically or UTP transmission (some GE cameras have UTP option for example), but one would hardly use that only to convert it back to coax to run on coax cable back to the DVR so yes they seem a little confused .. kind of. -

Project Management company, or property management? The latter, yeah they can be a real hassle to deal with, they also can cause jobs to take longer to get started and finalized, as one has to go between them and the board. I see you are getting directly involved though and that is a good thing. If the cameras will be outside in the night, they need to do a quote at night, if they havent already, ask about lighting capabilities of the cameras in each location they are being placed, eg distances of any IR. $79255 This is the price we are interested in .. well their labour also but the desk itself is not part of my initial concern .. so basically the hardware for the CCTV system is $80K, 52 cameras, 2 (or 3?) DVRs, and Cable. If its stand alone DVRs, what are the PCs for? Are they putting the DVRs on a network for the security to view the cameras on the computers? Or is that for the Access control or Administration only? Do you want your Security officers to be able to mess with Computers? Maybe just give them a PTZ controller and Monitor and thats it? -

Any $1500 retail PTZ is going to be rather mediocre anyway .. I mean its no Pelco or GE .. but it should work. 18x is not that far a zoom though. Also, why PTZ? Is someone always watching it, and are there also fixed cameras placed there incase the PTZ is off looking at something else? Wireless can have issues, but I only mentioned wireless as it seemed as if the wire runs were way too costly. -

300' or so is fine for Coax, I think like me most were thinking you had mile long runs! Another option at this point in time would be to look at Video IP servers - you can still use the non IP cameras to save cost and get low lighting capability, but maybe run some of them close to each other to video servers, then run that cat5 back to the central location, or even at the kind of budget you have, maybe even Wireless. Could even add some cheaper IP cameras where there is alot of light, indoors for example. Eventually you could always upgrade later and add megapixels or change the software, hardware as needed. That or use baluns and DVRs. 52 runs of coax around an outside property just sounds like alot. If i was to take on a job like that right now, I would go cat5 no questions asked. Also, not sure how computer literate you guys are, but I would look for PC DVR or NVR for better evidence sharing capabilities as well as typically more storage, and especially dealing with that many cameras. -

I expect it's because that's all he's ever done. I would be shocked if he has done large IP installations. And if he's never worked with Cat5e, you need to find another installer. Best, Christopher Hold on now .. there is a first time for anything .. Ive never installed an IP Video Camera System either .. but that doesnt mean I cant handle it .. and BTW I have handled cat5 thousands of times. I would suggest they have an electrician do the wire runs though, whichever method they choose. That price he posted sounds like its all megapixel Wireless IP cameras with 10TB storage and thing. -

What are the distances to the cameras? Best, Christopher Christopher, The distances to most of the cameras is 150ft. max. Perhaps a some of the cameras are 300ft runs, but most cabling runs would be not be that long. What is the distance limitation of IP cameras? Is there the 250ft distance limitation of Ethernet? The guy that runs that security companiy is insistent that coax should be used. Is there any advantage of coax over cat5e? Why would he insist on using coax? Rob Huh?? See now you got me confused. 52 (cheap OEM) cameras and 3 (cheap OEM) DVRs installed with max 150' distance runs ... and the job is over? What is the price again, just for the CCTV? I mean using those IR Bullet cameras you could probably get away with just Color or BW bullets in some areas saving you alot of money. Did they physically come and quote this job at night, how many times did they come there, how long did they spend there? Or did they just use your Security Consultants listing from 3 years ago and base the quote off of that? -
Do you mean when shopping for one, or after the purchase? if shopping for one, a really cheap retail price, old version software like 7.0, or in some cases purchasing from China, will normally indicate the card is fake. However note there are also some legit Geovision resellers in China, and GeoVision even has an office there, I think it is moreso an issue with Hong Kong, but dont quote me

Anyone try the Atom?
rory replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
They were brought in to replace the Celerons in the Netbooks mostly, gain longer battery time (from 3.5 to 8 hours), less current draw and lower heat. Yes you can get Core 2 mini systems, much better IMO. -
Anyone try the Atom?
rory replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Im pretty sure the Atom is Dual Core anyway. The netbooks with the Atoms are all Dual Cores, 1.6, but as mentioned those are all clocked at under 700mhz, in fact the 900Mhz Celeron Models seem faster to me, clocked around the same though, by default. Pentium Dual Cores will blow the Atom away, and they blow away the Celerons, its like night and day. So yes the Core 2 Duo and Quads will also. Honestly no idea if Nuuo's software will run on an Atom, I know for certain I would never try to run Geovision on one. In fact, as a user of the Netbooks, there are MANY new programs I would never install on a Netbook or other Atom PC, many of them wont even run on my Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz PC which is much faster then the 1.6 Atom! One thing to note, they dont sell the Atom CPU seperately, so most of us would use a Dual Core Celeron before going that route, and that said, a Pentium Dual Core is just a couple dollars more so ... . -

rory replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
1.6 Atom is clocked at less then 700Mhz, just an FYI. Atoms are good for things like Netbooks but thats about it. Are you going to try one of the Acer Aspire Ones or the Asus Eee PCs? If so let us know how it works out -

im busy right now but i may reply more later .. but quick question, what are the distances of the cable runs? If long runs, did they quote you with amplifiers, or are they going to use Fiber? -
Ahh .. you should try Google Chrome, no toolbars and add ons either .. But yeah its maybe 5-10 times faster then other browsers. Its especially great for netbooks and older PCs, with Windows or Linux.

A tip: use a viewfinder to get the exact view you want prior to installation, then focus the camera in a controlled environment, so at the location you just have to mount and adjust view. I understand this cannot always be done, especially for far FOVs, but in many cases it will work the best. One is then not restricted to using a small LCD to focus which does not give a good focus, or a Focus meter which needs to be done at a certain time of the day and costs alot of money.

D1 has always been 720x480 (NTSC) in Geovision (Not sure about Pal) I would still use 640x480 Deinterlaced myself, the size comparison between the 2 recorded files could be an 80% increase to 720x480 without any major increase in video quality.
-
What browser do you use? Nothing showing up on my end, Google Chrome. Also, do you have a toolbar installed? Check for any add ons, extensions, and toolbars, they could let malware in, the browser it self, typically will not, unless you actually download something, or as mentioned, run some add on that has a security hole.

i dont know about you but I could retire off that labour cost is extremely high but we dont know what the application is exactly. Is this going to take them 1 year or more to complete? Everything seems high, even for Bahamian standards, and we pay 45% Customs on the hardware and cost of living is almost 3 times that of South Florida. But as mentioned, would need more info, what kind of warranty are they supplying, perhaps just ask for a basic warranty and then the manufacturer warranty after that. They could have added a big warranty of their own onto it which could raise the price also. -
object tracking software recomendations
rory replied to motofox's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
another option, not necessarily the best one but may be the least expensive, is to get a 2 or 4 channel Geovision card and put that in a PC and run their software. It has built in object tracking for certain PTZs. -

Sounds like an alarm or access control company quoted those cameras, I would get a quote on the CCTV from someone that does just that, or at least that can show some decent knowledge or experience in that area, this size a job is not for a beginner, give it to someone that has been in the CCTV industry for some time, as there are many struggling to find jobs right now. If these guys are it, and you are happy with them, then discuss it further and see if you can get some other options. Not that the brand of camera are horrible (personally I wouldnt go near them again), but they are exactly what is pushed on people that dont know what brand to quote, in the South Florida Area - i know this as im in the Bahamas and its the same stuff the Miami distributors push on alarm etc dealers installers down here. When I go looking to buy its me telling them what I want, if they dont have it, I go elsewhere. In other words, the cameras quoted to you are nothing special, but its up to you. See this link for what basic built in IR like that sees, and in this case I use 3 sources of IR to compare, and its a bullet camera with more IR then most domes have: http://www.cctvfootage.com/video/Day-Night-IR-Bullet-with-Extra .Its just an example, as the actual product you are quoted can differ. If its mounted up high like on a pole or even high on a building, the IR is next to useless, you would need a high powered IR like the Extreme CCTV (now Bosch) gear, and those are very expensive, or even some high powered OEM gear, but either way it would have to be extra IR. Basically, get some more quotes. the DVR cost seems extremely overpriced for one thing. Maybe ask for your electrician to do the wiring, and have that quoted separately also, even if only to compare. I personally dont want to suggest products, but you should do some browsing on this forum for what brands are popular. we dont know enough about the property or application to give any really detailed suggestions either. Im with Tom though, see if you cant get some other options, especially for the wiring. -
Nope, its Azbar machines from the early 1990's, most of the bars and clubs down here are still using them. I had to setup Win98 machines to run the DOS software that connects to them, just for basic reports.

MegaPixel Cameras - Images and Demos
rory replied to rory's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You may just have a bad camera or lens, that looks worst then a low res cmos bullet. If so, I have six of them.... One thing I noticed is that the auto backfocus seems to move the focus too much to the foreground at night, I may have to set a fixed focus setting... I don't have any defense for the video noise/graininess/lack of resolution, though. Going to try a Samsung WDR dome in the same spot to compare, when I get out there again. I was just testing a SD3 Pano for someone, I couldnt get a good focus at all, really crappy image, I was surprised. The auto backfocus didnt do anything for it either, seems like just something else to go wrong. Though as its not new im putting it down to either bad camera or bad lens, I tried 2 lenses though, was no real difference, but the lenses were old also. Ive seen images from others that have used them though and they looked good, also I used a 484 box camera at a store door some time ago and it worked great also. I dont know what to say -
1-Delete any partitions on the hard drive - it must be a 100% empty drive - no partition tables at all. 2-Make sure there is only 1 7200rpm drive (PSU originally only support 2x5400rpm drives) 3-Set single drive to master and if second drive in set that to master, make sure cables are correct also.
