    Mobotix

He has "not" got you onto using the mobotix cameras?
  2. It does use the serial port in ADDITION to the IO card. (At least mine does). PC serial ports speak RS-232, PTZs speak RS-484. That would be RS-485... and not all PTZs are limited to it. I've only ever run across ONE PTZ that would ONLY work with RS-485 - all the others so far work just fine with a direct RS-232 connection. Some models from Brand names like GE etc wont, if it is a Kalatel Protocol. You are probably right though, I think Geo get you with the card, I dont think they use the onboard serial ports.

I don't think it's the IR or the camera. I'm guessing it's the color. I have an Axis 223M and RayMax Fusion 50. A very dark blue sweatshirt that I own appears bright white and much brighter than a medium pair of blue jeans. I've seen various dark deep colors reflect the IR very brightly and while some lighter colors don't reflect much IR. Best, Christopher Yeah but thats why we pay extra for the Reg cameras. .. its not your standard IR, its totally different build. not sure about the reg bullet though. Id have to check but im pretty sure we had no problems with any color plate here. Its been a while though.

Have a look IR and Plate What kind of IR are you using, also what type of camera? Maybe its a different red then on the plates we have here. All our government plates are red letters with white background. Maybe its the camera? I only used the Extreme CCTV Reg camera for night time licence plate capture .. are you using that or is that something else? I wouldnt sit so close to the Extreme Reg camera with IR on though, could burn skin.
  10. Just remember most of those ranges are hyped for sales pitches. As for the larger LEDs, ive used alot of long range Extreme CCTV gear and they had small LEDs.

    PTZ Camera issue

Did you change the PTZ power supply or the DVR power supply?
  12. rory

    Exview, HAD, and WDR

nope hasnt changed much if any at all. if anything there are more IP cameras out there but they still have the same issues with nighttime as other cameras do.

We have no issues here with those plates, red writing on white background. Must be the cold up there Seriously though, why is that a problem for you?

    Exview, HAD, and WDR

Oh my .. well daytime is easy .. but for night .. Ok, you need a Panasonic WDR True Day Night camera and Separate Infrared ... Unless you are doing a highway .. that should work. Get the appropriate lens for your application. Oh yeah it will no doubt cost alot more then $750 though using that camera ... you will need to try find a cheaper OEM WDR camera, maybe look at CNB or another manufacturer like that. IR will cost a little also but you dont need that much. Get the camera close to the plate, within 10'. It will take alot of time and alot of testing to get it done right and each location will differ. Please search the forum for LPR, that should also help. here is one thread on LPR, there are many: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11540&hilit=LPR
  15. No, not necessarily. There is more to an Infrared Day Night Camera then just the IR LEDs used.

Just put a speed bump on the road, or park a car in the middle of it, so they have to slow right down almost to a full stop, then slap up a 4-9mm IR bullet zoomed in on the plate and you are good to go!! Less head pains (oh wait, the car lights will glare at night killing that particular camera so you need to have a paint gun and hire someone to take the lights out)
  17. Yeah but thats not bad, since Thermal is not for ID anyway.
  18. IP + PoE + low price for thermal is big news. I just checked some online prices for the Samsung STC-14 Thermal Security Camera and found some in the $7k - $8k range. I thought I had seen some in the $5K - $6K range last year, but I could be wrong or perhaps the retail prices have been increased. In any case, the street price for the Axis will be significantly less than the previously available competitors, even if they sell at MSRP. Best, Christopher Nope, not really news, cause really you can just add that feature to almost any CCTV camera. No idea about Samsumg but yeah the Ganz is not cheap. Thats why when you look at the Extreme CCTV Cameras their price is not that bad, compared to thermal IR.
  19. Thermal cameras are nothing new in the CCTV industry, but that price is good compared to the others. Im not a fan of those old crappy housings though.

    Shutter speed AND frame rate

Thats the old and cheap way to do it, but most cctv cameras are electronic shutter, yes the zoom cameras and some others have manual adjustable shutter. best is to buy a License plate camera, designed for the purpose, which also handles the pitch dark or low light capture. If you have full light though then its alot easier and you can get away with a basic camera like he suggested, in fact, in many cases you could get away with almost any CCTV color camera, even a bullet, unless you are dealing with speeding cars on a highway. Night time is the difficult part in most cases.
  21. Hi, Scorpion should know this, it is his line of DVRs Anyway, if he doesnt know, I wont either .. but maybe try to image the drive first .. download a trial of drive snapshot (http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/), hook drive up to your PC as extra drive and from inside Windows, image that drive. It backs up the partition and should not check for file system type. Now the drive data is saved .. somewhat .. try to find someone with one of those Avtech DVrs and send them the image file .. which ofcourse will be huge .. so you will need to fedex it to them .. or spilt it up and host it on something like mediafire.com or something else that uploads large files. then let them restore it to a drive on their end and see if they can access. Well .. still .. cheaper you just buy one of the DVRs .. they are very cheap.

    frame rate

You will need to set the camera to zoom in on the area where the person will be, with say a 5-50mm/7-70mm lens camera, otherwise not going to get a face at that distance, other then as mentioned going Megapixel, which seems to be out of budget especially if you also want to see something at night. If that was 25' then sure but I figure meters is much further, even though we dont use that measurement here If you dont have the budget then just go with the 4-9mm and you will get what you get. When you get into faces and licence plates, details like that, it normally goes out of the average home user budget.

  24. As part of the Haiti relief effort, the U.S. military is sharing imagery from one of its high-end, high-flying spy drones, the RQ-4 Global Hawk. This image, shot yesterday by a Global Hawk, shows damage to the National Cathedral in Port-au-Prince. U.S. Southern Command is sharing the images so that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and relief groups can get a better picture of the situation on the ground.
