Luxriot Pros/Cons?
rory replied to danielsan2222's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
True, no worries. However that app you posted the link to is not a portable app. I just tried to run it on a stripped down version of XP i use for my DVRs and I got 3 fatal errors and it wont run. Basically missing DLLs and such that would be part of a feature of Windows XP that i remove. However if it had an installer, those dependencies would be installed and it would run fine, as Ive not had a problem with any other apps yet, infact it is used as a GeoVision DVR server. Alot of my own apps on my site run stand alone (note not portable) without an installer, on XP, but I realize the risk of them not working on every system is very clear and would never advertise them as portable, nor would I sell them as such (they are free apps anyway). -
Luxriot Pros/Cons?
rory replied to danielsan2222's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yeah but the main reason that is working is that XP contains most of the dependencies it requires. You may notice if you were to use some verisons of vista that they removed some components from that OS and in many cases apps wont always work like that. A professional app that someone sells will typically always provide an installer. -
People and Cars leaving artifacts? Why is this happening
rory replied to ghostrider2142's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Are you getting this problem locally at the monitor output from the DVR, or just over the network or internet?? If its the latter then the DVR itself would not normally be the problem, I would try it from another computer and internet connection. Also what OS are you using? -

You need to enable Deinterlace. That should fix that. -
How to view kodicom 8800 by the browser without client sof
rory replied to weissbrod's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
moved. also, have you tried just opening up internet explorer and going to the DVR IP and port to see if it opens up? Is there an HTTP port setting/webcam server in the DVR settings? also, most kodicom cards are not sold alone, when you find the cards being sold to end users those are normally the pirated cards, which we do not support on this forum. If you bought this as a system, have you asked the reseller about this yet? -
Luxriot Pros/Cons?
rory replied to danielsan2222's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
its not that simple though, well not always. if you have access to the code then its easier, but still time consuming. also, if the software needs .net or sql server then you need to install that, takes time, if its vista or win 7, it could need special folders to run from and other rights that it didnt need in xp, if its linux or mac it needs wine, or for the developer to learn a totally different language and to move over to those OS to develop on. So yeah in addition to other issues the code itself may need to be rewritten to work like that. A big company though could afford to do that ... smaller companies its not normally worth it unless most of their users would use that feature. -

Hi Rich, no, not 1.2 anyway. Geo changed everything with the 8.3 activeX control. It has to be changed alot. Rory [edit. see posts below, it actually does work with 8.32 and above, 8.30 was the only version it did not work with, as far as I know]

Works in MAC also!! using WINE ofcourse. FYI this is my first time using a MAC. Using Snow Leapord 10.6.2. I simply downloaded the wine app from here: http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ dragged into the applications folder as the readme says, then ran the SimpleVue Geo installer with Wine. Not sure if this is a limited version of Wine or not (?) But it works. Creating the desktop shortcut is a little different, also there is no Wine menu as with Ubuntu. Basically goto the drive, users, username, wine files, drive_c, program files, simplevuegeo, and right click "create alias" - if you want to change the name, rename it while it is highlighted (i dont see any way to rename a shortcut in mac?). then copy that to the desktop. While in the SimpleVue folder, open the INI file and change the settings, or also create a shortcut to that on the desktop. Open the desktop shortcut you made, should work.

Hi, as listed on the website: Development and activation has been discontinued on both of the above versions. Activation and support is only offered for existing clients. But I will email you later today with some further information. Thanks, Rory

which kind of cameras will be popular in the coming 2 years?
rory replied to Terry_yang's topic in Security Cameras
the cheapest bullet camera will always sell the most. -
what is better- low lux camera vs infra-red
rory replied to richard12781's topic in Security Cameras
neither, it depends on the location. also, the description of those 2 cameras dont give us enough info, is that a color IR camera or a True Day Night IR camera and does it have DSS or not .. etc. -
Unfortunately those cameras cost too much for anyone with any experience to actually test them, to make sure they are not just BSing us, like most manufacturers do with everything else.

neither does ICrealtime, or many others for that matter. So whats your point? Dude why you coming on here trying to talking bad about that company, because you lost a sale to them? That happens everyday, its business. Cheer up, there is always tomorrow.

Download Setup for Wine in Linux: v1.3 (Tested Ubuntu 9.10, Wine 1.01) Now you can watch your GeoVision DVR from Linux! This will install using Wine on Linux, and it will also install on regular Windows XP. This is currently not available for Geovision 8.3. This includes the above package in a Windows setup file. Installs VBRuntimes and other required libraries. Right click and open the setup package with Wine. Install the program as normal, select desktop icon if you like. A menu item should now be located under Applications, Wine, Programs. Edit your settings file. Desktop link: click on the "SimpleVue Geo.desktop" icon to open the program, select "Mark as Trusted", then reopen it. You can safely move the "SimpleVue Geo.lnk" file to the trash as it is invalid and created by Wine. All testing was done as root user. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/software/geovision/simplevuegeo.asp

Most WDR cameras are not considerd low light cameras ...there is usually a better camera for the job if low light is what you are looking for. WDR is for situations with alot of glare or backlighting.

Neat benefit to IP cams :)
rory replied to Soundy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Ok i see what you mean. Course a loop through card will do the trick with no loss. But yes neat But No I use Motion Record pretty much standard, hardly ever timelapse. But either way its 3 minute clips and 3 second pre and 3 second post record. Never had an issue with the smoothness of the motion recordings. Ofcourse each DVR has their own method of recording, some do 10-30 second clips. the couple I have set up with timelapse and event (more like 15fps on event, 1fps on timelapse) all function great. Just depends on what DVR it is. Also, with some IP software out there, that extra channel just cost you another $100+ and additional resources from the PC a really neat trick I d like to see is 2 cameras into one single channel .. a BW CCTV camera and then a color MP camera ... switching over depending on a photocell, but cheap like the acti price and in bullet camera form -

I dont get it ... we used this feature on DVRs for years .. with any camera connected to it -
IMO appart from a couple minor workable bugs, i feel 8.12 was their best version. Stable and Fast and the remote video is good quality. Soon as they went the IP camera route they messed everything up.
