long range wireless video
rory replied to bs953's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
4 peephole cameras? Also, sure that card will work with windows 7 and 64bit? Also, using 1 single PC for the 2 server apps? -
Have you looked at the quality of the image from the camera directly plugged into a CCTV monitor or TV? Just basing it off the DVR or even an LCD is not accurate. I imagine you used a monitor to focus it right? Also, specs are here but only in the PDF; http://www.nuvico.com/product_detail.htm?id=130

Telephone wire to power 12V cameras?
rory replied to stuspick's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
the OP is talking about powering a 12VDC CCTV Camera using 2 pair 4 conductor solid core 24awg wire, POE has nothing to do with CCTV cameras. -
Im a little confused, you said a 580TVL camera?? Anyway, no the image is not that great, but it could be the DVR you are using not the camera. I hope the image doesnt look that bad locally? edit; found the specs, nice marketting hype from them on that, actually effective pixels are less than most 480TVL cameras at just 768(H) x 494(V). IN any event, camera doesnt seem like anything special, their Super Image Enhancer is not working in this case though.

Radio shack or your local hardware or electronic store should have them.

Telephone wire to power 12V cameras?
rory replied to stuspick's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Simply, NO!! Buy 18awg and do it properly. If you are dealing with cheap cameras with low power consumption it will most likely work though. I cant tell you how many jobs Ive been to where the idiots used 2 pair telco wire doubled up and were wondering why at night time the Camera was going blank ... use the right wire the first time or dont do it at all. -
Sure, check out one of these: http://www.videologyinc.com http://www.ktnc.co.kr many others out there also ..

Sure, the quality doesnt look great there, but remember thats compressed for the network. Many DVRs will have bad quality on the remote video. How is the local video? What type of monitor are you looking at it on? There are alot of factors involved. I wouldnt write the cameras off just yet. Cheap DVRs arent that cheap anymore, many are terrible quality though. I have 2 units here, an old AvTech and a new one, the old one actually has slightly better video out quality, the new one has a ton more network features and slightly better quality over the network. Something like the Avermeda EB1304 blows it away in quality, but again the 1304 also has issues such as it shares the quality settings between the recording and the network and it has no motion masking. I used GE DVRs for years, expensive and no real features. There are some new players out there but there is also still alot of marketing hype.

I dont want 8.2 or 8.3 and if I can get 8.12 to work on the new cards I will keep buying Geo cards . .. if not I need to find another DVR card to use. Any ideas?

Best indoor camera for small convenience store under 100$?
rory replied to melisandeneowald's topic in Security Cameras
a $40 dome with IR? LOL ... dont expect much .. at all with that Remember ... you get what you pay for -
HTML is disabled on the forum for everyone. However you can use BBCode which is similar. For more info on BBCode please go here. http://www.cctvforum.com/faq.php?mode=bbcode Thanks, Rory

Ok I also went to a job recently where the IRs were blinking and powering the camera down and back up again fixed it temporarily but it did it again later that day, so I changed the power supply (the client had individual plug in power supplies) and it was fine then - so check the power also.

Own a Geovision card? Do yourself a favor, check out Livevue
rory replied to RichTJ99's topic in Geovision
Hi Gary. I honestly cant say as Ive never used a 64bit OS, I dont see why not if the others will as it uses the same ActiveX and Codecs. -
Some cameras come with a blinking LED such as the recent Eclipse 599Ts. In the case of that camera one would just cut the yellow wire, or remove power from the yellow wire. Wire colors can differ and this may not even be the issue you are having but it is just a thought.

What kind of comments are you looking for? they look like rebadged OEM, even the big name brands do this alot these days. Its one of their cheapest cameras so dont expect too much from it.
-
What they said, plus there can be a huge diff between a small brand's specs and a big brand's specs and their accuracy. Although I use specs in general to decide what kind of camera it is, I still dont trust it unless Ive tested it, even the big brands dont always have it right, and even the big brands buy OEM in many cases.

Geo uses/used UDP. Also check out Comart as they are big providers of SDK.
-
check the idle protection settings.
-
BTW, just a note, the video quality of most H264 DVRs is rubbish and especially with the cheap ones, not speaking about any in particular, just a general statement, so buyer beware.

VideoComm has decent wireless tx and rx for video, Ive used it in the past and it worked great. Ofcourse only ever use Wireless as a last choice.

Any MAC IP Server Software?
rory replied to rory's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions

Any MAC IP Server Software?
rory replied to rory's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks, mentioned it to them, they seem stuck on mac though but even that looks like it might not happen. How about Exacq on a 1.6 Atom Laptop with stripped down XP, that way can just stick it on a shelf and forget about it, plus it has the LCD monitor built in -
While you are at it might as well change the camera board for a newer and better one

Any MAC IP Server Software?
rory replied to rory's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yeah I use virtual PCs religiously. But . the person wants a MAC server for multiple cameras, view them all on one screen etc. all recording as a regular DVR/NVR server app does. Also, the idea is to use a new dedicated Mac, if they wanted to use Windows they would buy a new dedicated Windows PC
