  1. PCs get hot that is how they are. Especially in hot environments. Not everybody can run AC all the time. You can add all the fans in the world you want but those Hard drives will still get hot if they are in a hot location, as that air from the fans will just be hot air.
  2. Thats in the best environments, in hot conditions they are lucky to last a couple years, and when they do last, they are typically not without fault. In other words cool the crap out of them and they should last the warranty at least. Main diff between hard drives and SSD is that you can drop a working SSD on the ground, try it with a hard drive and its all over, and also, SSDs dont generate the heat or power consumption of a hard drive. Personally I would never buy another laptop that has a hard drive. But for data for video, there really is no other choice but a hard drive. I can see an SSD for the system but thats going to still cost $500-1000 for a small fast SSD.
  3. For one those specs appear to be totally incorrect. For $299 and a 256GB if anything that would be around 20mbs. so i would double check those specs with the manufacturer's site and not just go by an Ebay posting. Prices havent dropped that much, the SLOW SSD is the price range you are looking at and thats not good enough. As for it writing, i have an EEE PC from last year january with a 4GB SSD, I can tell you I have written to it literally thousands of times maybe more, especially during testing of XP setup over USB and testing of many other apps on it, and its still going strong.

    DUAL CCD CAM 540cl/600bw

A dual camera is for Day Night applications. 2 separate cameras will always be a better image compared to a single camera trying to attempt 2 functions. Color is always best for Daytime. BW is always better for night time. In many cases the color will be the typical higher resolution camera (not necessarily any higher res than what you have now) and the BW in lower res will have better sensitivity at night. Not sure which camera you got those specs in the title from. So no the view and resolution is not effected, it is a Day Night application camera. Search for Extreme CCTV EX82 for sample images.
  5. Can you also put preview on both screens? Let's say I wanted to preview on two 1080p screens with one computer having several Hikvision cards. Hi No you cant! I think very few systems do that due the DSP function! JD What about cloning the monitor? also whats the deal with 1080p?

    Geovision static/noise

How is each camera plugged direct into a monitor? Try each one in a CCTV Monitor, TV, or LCD using a composite (as these are composite cameras). If they are all okay, then put each one back onto the DVR one at a time. Also, check the Video Pigtail, if you have an extra one try that. If you are extending the video, that might be a problem also. Any abnormal hook ups on this system, like monitor extender, are all cameras individually fused? Are the cameras all the same brand or mixed?
  7. if you want to use that as an additional storage I see no harm, personally i wouldnt depend on that for the main storage or back up though.
  8. if you were really "paranoid" like I am, you would have bars on the inside of your steel door and bars at all the windows, additionally you would have an alarm with multiple loud sirens, hide machetes all over the yard in strategic spots, and carry weapons everytime you walk inside and outside the home. Yes the camera is placed quite high but you can place it at face height and still not catch their face unless you perhaps install 100 cameras covering every single angle and every single spot. If they are wearing a mask then bingo no face. If the sun hits the camera/face the wrong way then bingo no face, if it is dark and their face is dark unless you point a light right on their face, bingo no face. So many things so many options .. what do we do? I dont think he wants to literally install cameras ALL over his property .. that can get quite expensive Also, I see people get stabbed all the time and ID the suspects on camera and I dont need a face ID camera to do that, as for license plates, plates are useless here anyway as no real database exists, but he will need more than one camera to catch plates as its a wide area. Using the images I have seen so far, and thats based on smaller more compressed networked video as opposed to the actual recorded video, I am certain I would catch the criminal, but hey thats me, and I live in a different country
  9. Whatcha mean? Could that ruin the camera aiming it at a bright light like that? No just saying ... it handles it well though.
  10. How you know they arent coming through the back window? Why does he need to read number plates? Its just a house.
  11. Looks fine. That seems like a serious light though to do that to the Pano camera .. and sure if the light was off to the side it might be better .. but for now its a good night shot. Have you looked at maybe mounting it more to the very left and then at an angle to perhaps get a wider fov?
  12. Nice shot there Ps. I hope the thieves in your area dont have internet
  13. My choice between integrated IR Dome or Bullet, bullet by far. Longer Distance IR in most cases and better image typically - BUT, big BUT, has to be a TRUE day night camera, both of them. Some places you have no choice but to use a vandal dome though.
  14. nope, no store links in the forums at all. think about all those advertisers that stopped advertising, the forum would be loaded with links then. Would also be an excuse just to take out a one month ad so one could post their links.

Geovision on Windows Server 2008? 32bit?

I dont know 2008 server but I dont see why not, from what I read in the past basically Server 2003 for example was the same as Windows XP, basically, same OS version with just some added features. 2008 might be like Vista in that case?
  17. My bets on the quality is just crappy because its a cheap H264 budget DVR, I have used them and like other budget 4 channel DVRs (though the cheap h264 ones even worse quality) their remote video quality, lan or not, just sucks. But im not a gambling man these days so dont bet on me
  18. Um first try, just switch all lenses to 3.6mm or 4.3 mm ... get rid of sun shields or at least move them right back so they dont block the picture. The IR is not even really being used there so you could even disable that if you were so inclined to (if the camera allows it). Other than that, the camera is mounted very high and you loose alot of FOV. Get more light in the picture if you can, but without it pointing right at the camera. They do look dirty and or out of focus, that amount of street lighting it should be bright and much crisper, ofcourse could just be a crappy camera, those were KT&C cheaper models I think. Lets put it this way, without alot more money you wont get exactly what you say you want above .. bad placement for cameras to begin with, least for what you say you want to do. Also check local laws to see if that is even okay what you want to do. I can see wanting to see who comes on your property but walking down the street is normally a no no. Otherwise, a couple Panasonic Box cameras with about a 5-50mm lens zoomed in, placed on each corner of your building at an angle, should cover the walkway ... then a couple more, perhaps the Panaosonic Domes, lower down, angled to cover the door and driveway areas. Actually you could save a couple hundred $$ if you just used True Day Night box cameras from a cheaper brand like CNB though the image might not be as good. You COULD try and find a 5-50mm True Day Night bullet, that should do it also (but its not WDR and not Panasonic). Still, alot more money than those 3 B/W bullet cameras which btw are older models and not their best BW bullets (they arent even exview), and no you probably wont catch what is in their hands and probably not the licence plate at night. Sounds like you want Megapixel, price goes up there. Well, maybe check the acti cameras, throw up alot of lights though. Bottom line is, what is your budget? With that, then others might be able to give you a better direction.
  19. Sure, we could do it with GE Kalatel Multiplexers 10 years ago - just not cheap. It was the old matrix stuff, you could link hundreds of matrixes and muxes and up to thousands of feet. Eg. 1 mux to another mux with 1 UTP Cable. Was beyond anything I actually had to do though.
  20. Post some snapshots of your existing system if you can, perhaps you are doing something wrong.

    Frame vs CIF

Back in the day it was Frame and Field .. now this .. way to confuse
  22. LOL its not that important .. enjoy your beer Im not really a fan of any wireless anyway but i hate attics even more.
  23. Yeah well that can happen with any wireless device you use, happens to alarm systems all the time. What frequency was it?
