  1. I have done before, fan noise was okay as it was a PC DVR and i built it. Lockbox? Once they are in the bedroom they have full access anyway so a lockbox is of no real use. On a side note I leave my computer on all night and I sleep just a few feet from it. I also leave the TV on most nights, and I live just a few feet from a main road where there is at least 2 hours of traffic jam in the morning with speaker bass rattling my windows.
  2. If the flying insects are causing non stop motion, then either you have a major insect problem there, or the motion detection part of your system is faulty. BTW I live where insects literally throw you on the ground there are so many of them, and still dont have that many issues with false motion. Either way. regardless of insects, motion detection recording at night will never be that great, even with the BEST infrared in the world. It would be in your benefit to enable a schedule in your system to record motion detection for day time, and time lapse (continuous at a slower rate) for night time. Also note that Video Motion detection is NOT to be used as a replacement for a decent burglar alarm system, and it is mostly used to cut down on the recording time you would usually have with constant recording. Motion alerts are separate from Motion recording, and can also be used with continuous recording. Anyway, back to the question, Exview is lowest light, if you could find an Exview WDR let me know Panasonic might be your best bet, their Day Night Dome or Box camera in a housing. the 484. OR, you might just need a better Exview camera from that unknown brand you mentioned.
  3. Bugs will be attracted to any camera due to the heat from the camera, so it depends on how hot it gets - small bullets tend to get pretty hot. Bugs should typically not cause a motion event, unless they have "taken over" the camera. If there are that many bugs, then best to clean the camera. You could spray bug spray around the camera also, that helps to keep the bugs away sometimes. WDR is for backlighting issues such as glare from lights and entry ways, etc. You already have one of the lowest light chips, Exview. Im not sure what you are asking?
  4. most of them dont do H.264 well. I use Mpeg4 instead of H.264 with Geovision DVR, less compression and higher quality.
  5. thanks, good idea. I searched down this 4 channel one: http://www.veracityusa.com/products/hwquad/hwquad.php Im wondering though what kind of distances they work up to, also any issues with bandwidth?
  6. ... Why not just add separate IR to this one? thanks bud. But does that have 0.01 lux in low light BW @ F:1.2? I dont want IR if its not Pitch dark though. Regardless, requoting my post was to show that I want a component that would allow me to use ANY camera for dual camera operation utilizing a photocell. I have used EX82's for almost a decade, the first dual camera on the market, its that technology I want but I want to be able to use it with ANY camera. I have seen something like it on an RC site .. but they are in Europe. I guess it would be called a Mini 2 way switch like in the following image. But I would still want to get a photo cell to operate it. Anyway thats what I actually mean, I am quite aware that there are Dual cameras out there, but thats not what I want.
  7. Hey guys, working on a version (finally right!??) that will work with the older versions (the ones I like to use ) and the latest 8.3 (.xx) ... in testing it is using 2 activeX controls, the 7.0 for everything up to and including 8.2 ... then the 8.3 activeX control. I will tell you one thing, Geo was doing good up until this 8.3 version ( I know they meant well) ... anyway .. apart from the occasional crashing of the 8.3 activeX control .. I can get it to load with 7.0, when it connects it looks to see if it is 8.3 and if it is 8.3 then it disconnects, kills that control, then loads the new 8.3 control. Otherwise I would just use 8.3 for ALL versions as new works for old .. but not vice versa. Here is the thing ... the main issue with the 8.3 control .. enable direct draw overlay is disabled .. well they left out that method in 8.3 .. funny it was in the earlier versions .. anyway .. if we utilize a certain setting that gives certain right click options, which can be pretty cool stuff actually, then you get Direct draw overlay ... BUT it causes any right click and resize not to work properly in my app, literally making the app useless. If I leave that setting out, then we loose direct draw overlay ->> without direct draw overlay you may see blocked video, or pixelised, especially in full screen .. so that is that, we loose DDO for any DVR with 8.3 as right click and resize is obviously more important to me in my app .. FOR NOW .. until Geo fixes that in an updated ActiveX control. In everything other than full screen or some of the larger screens like the large window in 13 screen, you typically dont notice the difference. I may ofcourse find a way around it though as time goes on. Additionally .. in this app I create a separate ActiveX control, one that uses the Geo Single camera ActiveX control but also creates a multi viewer activeX control full of public functions and properties (all from VB6) ... Im adding alot of public stuff into that so it could also be utilized in other apps as well as Internet Explorer. Additionally I created themes for it, those could also be changed. For example in the version I am using now to test I have a charcoal colored webcam window .. instead of the typical blue one. I also have black border and black OSD - oh yeah I added in the OSD feature .. will try work on a transparent one also but dont want to cause it to slow down any. Im testing this stuff on slow hardware BTW ... for what it is worth .. It just keeps getting slower is not a slogan I approve of! And the latest is I added a custom screens drop down list .. example resized screens are 640x480, 800x480, 1024x600, basically a whole load of other larger and smaller displays including many wide screen displays ... it resizes on the fly ... im adding an INI file that would contain the screens .. so the user can actually add their own screen size into that (it uses the full screen form layout BTW when resized to one of those). Total resize control .. that is what LiveVue is all about and now I take it to a whole other level. Also ... this version will be 100% free .. ofcourse those that purchased the earlier versions will get first priority on any BETA and also tech support no questions asked. I may ofcourse throw ADs into it though, will think about that. Ideas .. recommendations ... other developers .. whatever let me know. I am totally open for ideas. 8.3 really made me unhappy due to how slow it got compared to other versions, and ofcourse the issues with the ActiveX control .. but will see how it goes. I am hoping Geo steps up to the plate and deals with some of those issues ... speed is a major issue BTW .. I mean it takes 5-10 minutes for the GeoVision 8.3 server to load in a Pentium Dual Core Intel PC .. whats up with that!?? I installed 8.12 on a 2.6 celleron and it flies! I dont need all the IP stuff (modules) with Geo, give us the Option for Dot Net ... we all dont need or Want it. example images: (using some geo demos found online) http://www.bahamassecurity.com/lv/lv2eg36way.jpg http://www.bahamassecurity.com/lv/lv2eg36waymemorycpu.jpg http://www.bahamassecurity.com/lv/lv2egfullscreen.jpg http://www.bahamassecurity.com/lv/lv2egfullscreen2.jpg notes: i got rid of 32, 40, and 56 way views since these images were saved. also, testing in these images was done on a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with 2GB of RAM. <<--- when referencing the memory and CPU image. If your DVR is imaged in any of the example images above plz let me know, I will remove or give credit/link whichever you prefer.
  8. Yes should be interesting .. weekend though so could be a while for replies Man I spent 4 hours in the sun today (and the bush where camera was located, well it was on the beach also) .. the heat was unbearable .. in fact the past 5 days on another job got home dehydrated every night and with a mega migraine, the location had literally no shade and white painted walls (and ground) and the sun never went in. I guess another option is to use Video servers. I was thinking POE to make it simpler though .. yeah I just rather not work as hard in this sun and heat LOL. Really though just not having to connect the power wire can make a difference when you are on a ladder soaked in sweat and near passing out from heat stroke!! To make matters worse my jeeps AC doesnt work. Im thinking easier installs, easier to get cat5 cable here now also, and smaller server .. DVR Card server needs full PCI while with NVR can use any size PC.

    BNC connector

sounds like a good job for splice and tape no audio on coax, video only, run audio with telco cable or RCA cable, or audio cable ..
  10. Well I dont know the difference, but its definitely not any better in IR distance wise or Extreme CCTV would be using them and not the clear ones they use now.
  11. Ive never seen a camera with Blue LEDs so I cant say, but most IR LEDs and IR bulbs are clear and give off a red glow.
  12. try www.zoneedit.com they give you alot of web forwarding options, and its all free

    Frustrated with cheap stuff!

No, only used it on one job, lasted so far, been over a year now, I was there a couple weeks ago and its still going strong - well the version that this one replaced. Actually had a couple images from back then, will try see if I can find them.

Yeah used alot of them over the years and they work well. I prefer the CNB though. Non of these are great against strong lighting though such as a big dusk to dawn in a car park.
  15. BW cameras, most cases you dont ever need IR but does depend on the club. KT&C seem to have the best selection of BW bullets and mini cameras these days, most others have gone the cheap Color IR route. check out these models from KT&C KPC-S190SWX << BW only bullet KPC-EX190SWX <<-Exview BW, lower light KPC-S50NV1 << BW bullet with IR KPC-EX35NV << Exview BW with IR KPC-VF353SWH << BW Varifocal these lower res models see more in low light, they do make the higher res versions of a couple of them but if you opt for those make note their lux ratings are not as good. You could also build you own Vandal Domes using these: (ideas only) KPC-S20P1 / KPC-S20B << BW cube pinhole/board camera KPC-S20PEX1 / KPC-S20BEX << exview BW Cube pinhole/board camera KLV-4080M << optional microvarifocal board lens ^^ the pinhole lens versions of those 2 above are actually wider angle, showing the board models for the microvarifocal lens option EHD000/ZZ - empty everfocus vandal dome housing, use any kind, this is just example Or you could look around for vandal domes with BW cameras, Day night is typically overkill since it is mostly always dark. We use color cameras where there is light, BW in the other areas. Most cases we just slap up the cheap exview BW bullets cause even if destroyed they are so cheap and simple to replace and can keep them in stock all the time.

Yeah camera wont work without power though. So you would need to put it all on a UPS if you go that route but still might not last the average power outage .. 1 - 2 hours outages around here. Power goes off so much UPS dont even come back on sometimes

    Frustrated with cheap stuff!

LOL. The 2 color views are cheap eclipse color bullet cameras .. thats color only .. so it has the fixed IR cut filter and thats why the colors are good. My biggest issue with them was they were and are only 1/4" so not as wide as I like. Been hard trying to find a cheap color bullet quite as good as them though. The newer recent models even seem to have changed a bit. The BW ... cant remember what that was .. some cheap BW bullet I had laying around .. As I cant afford True Day Night cameras, I opted to put color where there is light, and BW where there is low to no light, works out much cheaper and get good images for the price.

    Distance issue

ok my bad I have no problem with that, I agree when you go over a certain amount of cameras then thats as far as that technology can take you. But it does have its benefits, no network bandwidth issues which can be very useful in some applications. Otherwise yes I have quoted wireless network gear myself for video apps (nobody down here ever had the $$ to pay for it thats all!! )

    Distance issue

This would (should) be posted in the IP Camera section if he was interested in an NVR, where it would be moved to if it goes that direction. We like to keep the other forums to strictly CCTV where possible.

    need the Geo codecs: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/dl/?q=InstallCodecs.zip

    Distance issue

DSL is horrid down here, 128KB max upload speed, cable is the way to go. See, everywhere is different, what might work there might not work here, and vice versa. I would say if they are hell bent on wireless then stay clear of network wireless and go CCTV wireless, works well when using the right product and installed correctly. But mostly as they are not asking about an NVR system. CCTV wireless is real time video, I dont like either but Ive used CCTV wireless by VideoComm and it worked great.

where is your cctv DVR mounted??

everywhere is different though, here they just poison the dogs.
  23. or call local security companies and ask them if they have any old non working bullet cameras they want to sell.
