I didnt notice that, but can you list some IP LPR cameras, specifically for LPR I mean, for pitch dark apps and day time. Something that replaces say one of the Extreme CCTV LPR cameras ... the overview camera could be any cheap camera. I mean maybe he doesnt want to spend the huge amount of money they charge for somewhat adequate NVR software when he can plug the CCTV camera into a cheap sub $100 DVR He could always use the video server for the other cameras and throw up some CCTV cameras to save $$. Actually he could decode it at the other end and put it into a DVR also. Now just to find that MP LPR camera.

IP video servers even better, so you can use any camera you like.

What brand/size UPS are you recommending to your customers?
rory replied to Tailbone215's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hardly consumer UPS. Solar is cheaper. Problem with either is if they are on the grid they stand the chance of failure from brown outs and other issues, least in most other countries. With the solar its run off the grid. I have a client that spent $50,000 on line conditioning equipment from USA which handled her entire estate (huge mansion etc) and it was busted in a few months, cost her another $10,000 to send it back and have it fixed only for it to fry again. They claimed it was the best in the US .. go figure they dont have the type of electricity we have here. LOL. Either way, using the consumer APC and Triplight, when you have say 10 customers whose Security systems did not power back up due to the UPS power output not activating .. let me know if you will still use that stuff. Oh yeah and in most cases the Generators came on within a few minutes. -

have you considered solar? Seriously though a consumer grade UPS is not a fail safe. -

The average UPS only gives you 15 minutes if you are lucky. If thats whats happening there though in your case it might help. Dont forget my note on them not restarting properly though, which will effect you no matter where ever you live, even if only once in a blue moon, it could be a full moon night and then you wont get ANY video because it wont come back on. I live in a place where the power goes off every other day, so we are well experienced in that side of it, and we live with constant brownouts. Most important thing to protect your products is a Voltage Regulator. -

New 8 channel card not working, don't know what to do...
rory replied to BabiesNBellies's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Put XP on the PC and try it with that instead. Also, does that HP PC only have 1 PCI slot, if so that could be your problem. Might want to try it in another PC. Also, what are the PC specs? Does it have an Intel chipset? Better yet, send that Error Message to the DVR Card Manufacturer as them or their Software Developer should know what it means. EDIT: Appears that is an activeX control error: The ClipHeight and ClipWidth properties specify coordinates which are outside the boundary of the bitmap loaded in the PictureClip control. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa228381%28VS.60%29.aspx it might also be an error from other ms programming languages. -

It really makes no sense for most embedded DVRs, for the Windows file systems it can though so you can shut it down properly. But then I rarely ever use them now cause there are other problems I have had with them where they wont even come back on occasion and occasionally is enough to be a problem. Our power goes off like mad here BTW. Ive had the problem with both APC and Triplite. When a DVR doesnt come back on after a power outage thats a big problem, especially when its connected to a UPS. It varied from year to year so it wasnt just a bad batch, it is just how it is. The most important thing is to use a Voltage Regulator, UPS battery back up is a secondary option especially since most power outages here last longer than 1 hour. Most APC units over 550VA come with AVR built in, the smaller units normally do not or never use to. But locally the UPS is around $100 more than the Voltage Regulator. So basically most will get the voltage regulator if anything (and if they want their equipment to last). -
Odd thing happening with a ge storesafe proII

I cant speak for this newer model, but with the older models if the DVRs were not recording you would not see any video. -
newbie question regarding typical native color saturation
rory replied to serbokl's topic in Security Cameras
Simple, it has no IR Cut Filter. That is considered a Color IR camera. Resolution: Get a True Day/Night Camera with ICR (Infrared Cut Filter), or just a Color only Camera which typically has a fixed ICR. One thing you dont have to do is spent hundreds of dollars to get decent color, now the rest such as higher quality hardware and better light handling, thats a different story. Optionally, see if you can locate a camera store locally or online and buy an IR Cut Filter to manually place over the camera, but that will require some work. They come in various sizes. -
Who knows, but its more than acceptable that he wont sell you something he has not used yet or tested, especially since the consensus from those that have used both properly setup CCTV and IP cameras say that IP cameras are still not ready for real day night apps, least within a decent price range. If all you care about is a full color app with plenty light then go for it, he should be happy that you are willing to spend so much money so that he can test the cameras out, ofcourse he needs to tell you he cannot make any guarantees on the product or the final image, though you mentioned your image already sucks. To say that one cannot get high quality video from a CCTV system (non IP cameras) is just ridiculous and would show ignorance of the industry on a whole. There are many cameras out there and many of them do suck, additionally installation location can cause many issues, and the DVR itself used could be another issue, not to mention bad wiring and power. And if you put a composite DVR onto an LCD it will look like crap in most cases, but thats not the recording, thats just the viewing - put that same image on a high quality CCTV monitor and it can be just like a movie picture. There are many factors to it and thats why there are professionals, and ofcourse some that claim to be. Additionally, a 540TVL camera should be 811x508 total pixels. BTW these threads are a dime a dozen.

Who makes single camera w/web server & dynamic dns?
rory replied to sequoia's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
for the CNB product, check the CCTV stores that sell CNB products, there are many that sell them now, not sure about the video server though. -
Looks like Capture and these guys share the same tools http://www.grandeye.com

The majority of stand alone embedded DVRs need a clean partition meaning no FAT file system or any other kind. If its been used before just delete the partition. They use their own file system and will create it when you plug it in. When you format you are creating a file system. Also sometimes partition tables can get corrupt and you can fix those easily as long as the physical hardware is not damaged. Most of this can be done right inside Windows XP. Sometimes you need third party software but instead of installing something most times I will just run a program called Drive SnapShot from the USB drive and that gives you some additional low level power. But ofcourse all DVRs cant be different.

Plug the hard drive into your desktop computer - power down the PC first ofcourse. In windows right click Mycomputer and Manage, goto Disk Management, select that hard disk, should be something like Disk1 or higher. Make sure it is the correct one. Right click in the section on the right and select delete partition. power down the computer. put it back in your DVR. If the hard disk is bad, where you have to use a zero fill scan, then that can take hours and your labour will cost more then the cost of a new hard drive. Food for thought.

well LTSSecurity are DIY products, not really professional stuff. Newegg sells them too. Im not saying they are crap, just that there are much better cameras. It may come down to whether you want concealed wiring or a good picture.

Most True Day Night IR Bullets will do that, there are MANY brands .. eg CNB-B2760NVF is just one of many. Ofcourse the actual IR illumination will depend on where it is mounted and the height it is mounted, as well as any reflective objects within the camera's IR range. Take note that bright lights can blind just about any camera but Bullet cameras really dont handle lighting well. So just make sure it is not looking at bright lights, get the lights behind it if possible.

What do you want to do with that? Its a cheap Color IR camera. No cut filter so expect washed out colors.

Mobotix cameras with images
rory replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
So the bottom line, the END RESULT is the more you set it to see in low light, eg. slowing the shutter on CCTV cameras, the slower the video right? Correct me if Im wrong because thats my understanding so far from your posts regarding this "t" thing. If so I dont use cameras like that, if the chip cant work for low light then I dont buy it. EG. SuperHADs suck for low light, while Exviews work great. I would never use a SuperHAD Color only camera for a low light app, unless it had BW and IR ofcourse. If one has to slow the shutter (or slow the video another way) then its worthless as a CCTV camera.
