Mount IR illuminator high or low?
rory replied to blake's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Flood is the widest at 60 degrees, so you would need 2 Illuminators. Also most IR Illuminators will be around 30 degrees, so whichever one you choose make sure to ask for the proper specs. The UF100 is approx 60' at 840nm and 60 degrees. Ive used it in the past. They arent cheap though. Have you considered visible lighting though? Ive used High powered IR for years and although it works as it says, the IR itself really is overrated IMO. I would take visible lighting like a dusk to dawn or motion lights and a decent true day night camera any day ... over using IR. Sometimes there is no choice though. -
Mount IR illuminator high or low?

The EX12 is a small LED, not very good for outdoors. I would look at something more like a UF100 and if you really want to flood the area, a UF500. -
yes just setup a separate account for remote viewing.

Mobotix Q24 with images
rory replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
not if they have shelves in there, or corners, and still you cant see the other side of the person .. In reality you need just as many MP cameras as CCTV Cameras in most cases, plus you will need to add a CCTV camera just to see in the dark. -
Budget DVRs dont generally have any features like that, eg. Avtech. PC Based DVRs will give you the most features, such as Geo, which can enable/disable cameras for separate applications based on the user account. Most PC software will do this now, except perhaps the stuff you find at kmart or sams club.

Mount IR illuminator high or low?
rory replied to blake's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
i got the link. Its a budget IR illuminator, i realise its not THAT cheap but the brand is. If it were something like Extreme CCTV I could tell you exactly what to expect, but the specs on that dont even give the width of the beam. It could end up being good though, and if so, let us know Oh yeah, being that its small and fairly easy to mount, if you cant adjust it in the dark to install it then put a single temporary screw in it, check it the next day, then move it if needed. I guess if there is a trick at all to this, it would be that all Infrared apps should be adjusted in the locations darkest condition, eg. in the pitch dark/at night. Too many people, even the so called pros, adjust Day Night applications in the day time only (unless location is a controlled lighting environment such as an indoor room) and wonder why its not that good, or just dont care. -
no actually it has a face that covers the entire front (though it did have buttons and stuff below the face cover), i used a mouse when i was there, the rear is pretty much identical to this one though: http://www.aposoniccctv.com/Products/Surveilance/2008/A-S0401R2.htm I am finding the X_IRS.exe software around sites with argus in the page somewhere though its all in asian (various languages, mostly korean).

perhaps though nothing on their site resembles the DVR in question, nor the software: http://www.arguscctv.com/

Mount IR illuminator high or low?
rory replied to blake's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
LOL no thats TOO low ... just mount it around 6-8 feet and make sure it has something to reflect off. If there is nothing to reflect off then it needs to be really powerful or you would need to just bounce it off the ground but then it might not spread properly. What kind of IR is it? -
Most Zoom cameras let you adjust the Shutter speed manually. Ive used Samsung Zoom cameras that let you do this, were testing slow shutter for low light before the awful DSS became built into cameras. However going by the PDF from Samsung Techwin the SDC-435 is not a zoom camera and has an electronic shutter. Looks like an interesting camera though, if you try it please post the results here

Mount IR illuminator high or low?
rory replied to blake's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
the lower the better. although it depends what might be in the way of it. If you install it at night, you can use a monitor at the camera/IR to adjust the IR on the fly before even mounting it. If you install it in the day time, not so easy unless it is inside a controlled lighting condition. -
nah checked them already, different software. DVRs look different also.
-
quite right, i had just googled that as memory not as good as it use to be
-
Well hard drives are considerably cheaper now, so it wont matter as much. As mentioned it ate up a 160GB very quick due to over motion detection. But you can put a 1TB in there now and its alot cheaper than they use to be, so would get alot more time.

24 Camera System Required - What direction to take?
rory replied to SambaNoodles's topic in General Digital Discussion
Um you can get that field of view with a non IP camera also. But dont forget, you might need to see what someone is doing on the other side of the liquor shelves. -

24 Camera System Required - What direction to take?
rory replied to SambaNoodles's topic in General Digital Discussion
that system is so funny and a good example for people to see what NOT to buy. to the OP. 24 cameras are alot of cameras, who is going to maintain them? Eg. clean them? And being on that small budget, I would drop it down to 16, put them in the best locations, and call it a day. I dont think you will be able to do anything besides very budget cameras for that system. Another thing to note, if you were to go with BW only cameras you will get much faster remote video due to a smaller image size. Check KT&C bullet cameras if interested in the cheap bullets, BW or Color, Mini Cube cameras etc. Dont go cheap on the Distributed Fused Power Supplies and the Siamese Cable. -
I didnt want to get in this, and to me it really doesnt matter (other than the couple self advertising posts), but how do you explain this? http://twitter.com/alasl01 http://www.linkedin.com/in/luisalas basic search on google. Look, its okay, just stop the self advertising please. Thats all that we would ask. Like everyone else you are welcomed to put a link in your signature.

Yeah seems some call 320x480 2 CIF as well, also called Half VGA.

question regarding using only 4 channels on a 12 ch. card
rory replied to vitreous's topic in Geovision
As mentioned depends on the card. Most let you enable/disable channels, therefor the empty ones will just be blank or no video image. You can then set a default multiscreen display such as 10 way, 16 way, 4 way, etc. based on the number of cameras you have. -
Also see this review, the previous unit however, but seems the same. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12446

Having used CPCam or better known as Avtech, having one right here on my desk, and also having used the Avermedia, I would say Avermedia blows it away no matter what quality setting it is on. Frame rates are about the same. Avermedia EB1304 is not without its own issues though, but video quality is not one of them.
-
Its less pixels, so lower quality. HOWEVER, when played back I think it is widescreen. Only DVR I used that on before was the Iview. QVGA = 320x240 CIF = 352 x 240 VGA = 640x480 2CIF = 704 x 240 D1 = 720x480 edit: whoops

T-Connector working better than a Video Distributor?
rory replied to NYCBlue's topic in General Digital Discussion
well ive only ever joined 2 cables together like that, but dont see why 3 would be an issue. Works great, actually better then a connector. Splice can be messy though, difficult (messy) to get back at for maintenance in future due to electric tape melting over time. -
Cat5e Underground - EMT Lightening Rod
rory replied to TJCCTV's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
So you'd put an analog camera into a camera server and a wireless bridge of some sort? How do you get it back into analog form at the DVR end? ************ Edit ************** The DVR is a Dedicated Micros unit, and it only supports a very small range of network cameras, and only at 2CIF resolution, max of 18K per frame. No motion detection is supported on IP cameras, and there is a maximum of 25fps split over ALL IP sources... DM is actually pretty miserable in the networkability department. http://dedicatedmicros.icentera.com/exLink.asp?6302542OT32U57I28598570 You can read it there you're interested... check out VideoComm for Wireless CCTV. I have used their products before and it worked great. You are limited over a certain number of channels though, such as 12 for example, at least in one particular frequency - the pro of it is that it is real time video, no networking needed, just raw video. Apart from limited channels is that it is not cheap.
