How to setup ACTI camera for different lighting conditions
rory replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
"1.3 Megapixel High Resolution 1280 x 1024 at 8fps" Doesnt that mean it will be slow video, 8fps? At least at MP quality. Not that we havent lived with that before, i remember the days when 1fps was considered fast enough. But still ... If 640x480 gets you 30fps ... I can get a non IP camera and do 811x508 or actually the DVR at 640x480 pixels, but for under $100 and push 30fps easily, why would I go with this camera? -
For more features? Yep, PC based, if a PC can work in the location. Look up a GV-600-4 or the GV-650-4 ... then just need an Intel PC .. can build them for next to nothing these days .. would be within that budget you mentioned. Otherwise check the Avermedia DVRs .. http://www.avermedia-usa.com/surveillance/productdetail.aspx?id=18 Ive used the older model to this, not sure if it does the SMTP thing though as never needed it.

T-Connector working better than a Video Distributor?
rory replied to NYCBlue's topic in General Digital Discussion
GE has various units, see link below: Ge Distribution Unit or you could just look for a quad with loop outs. like this: http://www.gviss.com/products/quadsmultiplexers/gvq4chrtcbr.php Im still trying to figure out how you are getting so much video loss? What monitor is it going into, is it an LCD with a VGA convertor? Are you certain the loss of quality is just not the monitor itself, as going from composite to VGA will decrease the quality incredibly and even more so with cheaper VGA converters. How far are the distances? A last option to avoid the T connector all together is to just splice the cables together direct ... yep .. good old splice .. join the solid centers together and then join the outer braids together .. bingo .. no video loss. Ofcourse tape that up good. It might be messy but it works. If you want to make it neat then visit radio shack and try some connectors. Video loss will occur over a distance but you didnt mention the distance, 50-100 feet wont be noticable loss. -
oh ... yeah thats a problem then. If you had another PC on the local network you could leave on, you could run a relay script or app on that which relays it to another port, or uploads it to an online server. I actually wrote a standalone VBscript that does just that, when i was in between using gmail - its very basic though and only sends 1 attachment, i never went further with it. it just waits for the email then sends it onto a webpage on my site which then uses my hosting company's smtp mail server to send it out. Though you could probably just run a free SMTP server or something and change the port is all. Not sure as I never tested any real programs out.
-
another option is gmail. Ive used their SMTP before when my ISPs SMTP was down. Ive used it with Outlook express though. Can they not use their ISP SMTP with an email client like Outlook Express or other? If so then should work the same with the DVR or other apps.
-
use your ISP's SMTP and that should be port 25 by default. They normally just block it so you cant use an external SMTP with port 25.

What kind of vandalism? Can drill or saw through the Metal conduit also. Not to mention a simple crack of the camera with a hammer (no matter if its vandal resistant) and its blind, paint gun it and its blind, shine a flash light at most cameras and they are blind enough .. etc. So basically anything one thinks of can pretty easily be defeated by a determined criminal. Ive never seen lightning hit a DVR but then you live in tornado alley so .. you would think that high voltage would burn the cable up before it even reached the DVR. Ive seen cameras hit but it never went past that, just killed the camera. Anything is possible though. ps. who is Bahama Security, is that me? LOL I Cant remember. -
We are killing the thread discussing this. Uploading is not working, please locate an image from another website/hosting company and post the BBCode IMG tags to show it here for now. Thanks. http://www.cctvforum.com/faq.php?mode=bbcode www.tinypic.com seems to work best right now for images and small videos, www.mediafire.com for larger videos and files.
-
Most forums disable HTML for security reasons. Not that it stops people hacking open source PHP forums anyway BBCode is working, what error are you having? if this = that then msgbox "yippie!" end if
-
it rarely worked from day one, i dont know as im not the admin. I always use something like www.tinypic.com or my own website hosting. Rory

The Avtech DVR as with many of the budget 4 channels, only accept IDE drives. Some have SATA but not all.
-
Most are... but they make PATA ones... I looked into one for my older laptop. my laptop has one, soldered onto the motherboard.

its all good hey tried this free Windows OS yet? http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html -
They have 1 and 2 channel cards which will have 4 physical ports but only the ports you paid for will work. Do you have the the model of the card? If its a newish card, the GV600 has 1 and 2 channels, if its an older card it could be a 4 channel, as the GV250 was the 1 and 2 channel card before.

The logic is simple. That $600 PTZ camera you saw is actually dealer price, so retail would be around $1000. So when I say $1500 please note that the price in wholesale/dealer is ofcourse less. If you are an end user or dealer I do not know. Eitherway we are only allowed to post retail/list prices on this forum and that is why you will see those listed and not dealer. It is unfortunate that there are online drop ship sites that sell to end users at dealer/wholesale price, undercutting those that are in the business, that being many members on this forum who come here to help, well, end users. Anyway, obviously a $90 PTZ will be a piece of crap. A $600 or $1000 will be better, the $1500 one is not THE BEST but it is going to be very good, the best meaning it may not be the best for your location, in other words it is only a COLOR camera, which will not see a thing at night, therefor one would need to upgrade to a true Day/Night PTZ which can bring the cost up at least $500-1000 or so more .. then how about special features like WDR .. add another $500-1000 .. and lets not forget the cost of the keyboard controller .. the big brands are not cheap .. that can easily run $500+. But trust the diff between that $600-$1000 camera with a generic PelcoD keyboard, and the GE Kalatel with its own keyboard, with the same basic specs, is considerable. Then again, for most "budget" applications the cheaper PTZ may suffice (how budget is a PTZ though really)

IP camera Software
rory replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
because Vista sucks and windows 7 is the same. If its not XP i might as well just use a Mac. Windows XP Professional> -
Hi, was it second hand or brand new? Im going to take a guess that it was new right? Have you contacted the reseller about it yet? When new they shouldn't even have any tours programmed into them. Do you see anything in the manual about resetting it back to defaults? $600 retail for a PTZ its not going to be the best PTZ out there, that is more than $1000 cheaper than the average PTZ retail cost from like GE and others. BUT, it should at least not be going around in an unremovable tour.

LOL @ Squiffy. If he could do all that then he probably could just build himself a new DVR out of household electronics. anyway, gaining is strange, still check the battery if it has one.
