then paint gun all the cameras and ... take out the main power source, generator, and throw in some higher voltage on the siren wire, man look where we going with this LOL. time to get a moat for my castle also.

when both communications are disabled, there is no way for the signal to go through. Here the CMS uses RF as the primary. That also can be disabled.

suggestions/thoughts on an additional ptz rollout
rory replied to purdywis's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Ive used GE Kalatel CyberDomes with GeoVision and you can use the Keyboard AND the software, presents, tours and all - using the Kalatel Protocol. Not Cheap though. You also need an additional GE device. This is the same with ALL DVRs. Your KT&C situation, why not just buy the keyboard then?? GeoVision supports many PTZ protocols, its up to the PTZ manufacturer to supply the rest of it. GeoVision has serial communications as with any other DVR. I cant say what the problem is with the Bosch unit but you should contact the reseller and get it working properly. -
Yeah but then they can jam the cell and cut the phones. nothing is 100% .. for one thing I cant live without bars on my door and windows. That to me is more important than anything else.

Heh... between on-site backup generator and large rack-mount UPS (>15min of run time), they're going to be waiting quite a while. They can kill the generator also also they could just send a brownout down the line and blow all the electronics .. the point is, if they can get inside to the DVR they can disable other things as well.
-
Unless its off site then it really doesnt matter, they can just cut the power and wait 15 minutes until the UPS dies. Its not like the old days when they would just grab the tape and run, now adays they do more disabling, like paint gun to the camera, cut cable, etc.

True. I was talking with a company out of Taiwan that specializes in mini PCs etc, at one time, they were very inexpensive and custom build anything you want. Cant remember the name as that was a few years back, but could look at something like that for more long term maybe?

1 gig of ram 640GB WD HD Sony slimline DVD-r XP PRO For 450$ Guess I need to learn Linux how about these guys? They've been around for years, were expensive though maybe the price has dropped. http://www.cappuccinopc.com problem with any of these small type of computers is the heat. The hard drives will be adding to that alot also. Even the Eee with Solid State drives get very hot. A couple months ago they had the Eee PC 901 for under $200, now its discontinued, but still a good laptop, 8 hour battery ... could have just tried one of those The video can lag with high quality though, i think thats where you might have a problem.

Specs for that camera list: Selectable Back Light Compensation, H/M/L/Off Selectable Gain Control, H/M/L/Off Sens-Up disable Sens-up go through the various back light settings until it is best image same with the gain control, might want that off. in fact start with everything disabled/off blc and gain enabled can both cause extra brightness.

I would go Atom but then I dont know much about Via. Only thing I know is the Netbooks that had the Via CPU typically got hotter then the Atom based ones.

LOL. Sorry no 80mm computer fan will do anything for you in that regard. I have to ask was this thread a joke?? I dont see how you could even think that would do anything, I mean at least say a 120mm, and even that would be useless. You would almost get as much air by just not having a fan. Tip. Push the air out, that will be better. If you can, push some in as well, but the most important thing is to push the hot air out. At least in hot climates like here, and with PC cooling. Already mentioned are fans dedicated for this from local hardware stores. They are MUCH larger than an 80mm computer fan, but they are also inexpensive. I wouldn't put anything on the actual roof though, expect water leaks. Put it on the sides or under the attic eave if anything.

do IR illuminators attract bugs?
rory replied to wozzzzza's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Every heat source attracts bugs, the more heat the more bugs. I have a BW camera that gets covered in cobwebs and has no IR and is barely visible as it is so tiny .. but it gets hot and the spider loves it. An annoying example of this is inside my appt the darn bugs tear me appart some nights, best way to deter it is to leave a light on in say the bathroom with a very bright bulb so the bugs to that way instead of all over me, yes basically its the body heat they are after, as with LCD displays, TV Displays etc. I kind of live in a little jungle though So to answer your question, that 90LED will get covered in bugs .. if you have alot of bugs in the area. In fact it could be like my Infrared camera here which looks like its snowing there are so many bugs! -
Guess we have to take into account the cost of the cameras and servers they have to buy in order to test them with their software. And all the other development hardware as well. Wish i had that kind of funding
-
let me know how it works out.
-
ouch! they think they're name is Microsoft aye?
-
Oh yeah forgot to mention it works well with Remote video also: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/eeepc/eeepcTweaked2.wmv

sure .. start over here .. it has most of the info http://www.bahamassecurity.com/software/utilities/nlite.asp Note it is an Nlite config, but its not just another Nlite config. I tested it for months in Virtual Box and on actual PCs, before sticking to the final version as seen on that page. It was ALOT of testing, literally hundreds of test installs at least in Virtual Box over approx 3 months. It was geared towards EEE PCs at the time ofcourse. disable ALL hardware not to be used preferably in the BIOS, and dont install any of the drivers for them. Disable all services not to be used, using app in my link but also using the registry, go through all services, look for parallel, serial, etc drivers, get rid of or just disable. Things like that. Every little bit counts, it depends on the PC hardware, and check the boot log until its clean as poss. I had my Eee PC 630Mhz celleron XP booting up in 10 seconds, though ofcourse i had things like Webcam, Audio, Themes, LAN (used Wifi instead) etc disabled. Eg. you could get rid of the windows desktop alltogether and use another shell like bbLean, i did that for a geovision before, did a browser version also for a webcafe type of app, using a file that ran in the background and locked down everything else, and then a commands file for the right click menu in bbLean. I still have that code. in fact i did another one where the shell WAS the Geo DVR software, and it worked .. but didnt have time to test it properly.

I know i can get XP down very low, not sure about how Exacq will run though.

What sort of cable should i use for camera, mic and video?
rory replied to wozzzzza's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
that should be fine, im talking more the 1000ma + and IR cameras. -
True .. thanks. So basically its an embedded board inside, should be cool enough then. Though wonder about air flow. Have you used it yet? Id like to see it with XP next They dont say how fast the CPU is.
-
NAS box?? Whats inside it?
-
Correct me if Im wrong, but isnt the Mini still a PC, uses PC hardware?
-
If you want features then go PC based, DVR or NVR. Features such as decent evidence sharing are lacking in most stand alone DVRs. Sometimes though there is no way to use a PC based due to location such as heat, thats where a small stand alone like the Avermedia or AvTech, really shine, they only have a small tiny board and nothing else that generates any kind of real heat (besides the hard drive).
-
Also removed the drivers then cleaned up and reinstalled drivers and software? If still having issues might want to try it in another Computer if you can.

Careful with which cameras you double that up for, distances, voltage and amps required. You wont be able to power all types of cameras with UTP doubled or trippled up.
