Dead Camera Card in PC
rory replied to zanteian's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Probably got hit by power brown out or something. Maybe try it in another PC? Or try a different power supply in the Computer. Still no go then probably time to get a new card, especially if its a clone. -
Dead Camera Card in PC

If its too dark it can be snowy. Especially if its Exview BW. Though Exview BW will see much more then regular BW, under near pitch dark there will be noise. Ofcourse a bad camera can do that also. Depends on the light level and the camera you have, the location light level, as well as the DVR used. Have you checked the picture without it going through the DVR? How old is the camera? A Swann DVR is a dead give away for a system that wont be good quality video.

Hi, doubtful that you will find any "high end" PTZ cameras for $500, not even at dealer discounted cost. Not to mention with Infrared and an IR Cut filter (gets rid of the poor color). Your best bet is to forget PTZ and focus on some decent True Day/Night IR bullets.

When our ISP's SMTP server goes down here, and it does, i either switch over to Google (gmail), or i use an SMTP VBscript i wrote. I had Gmail working with outlook express. they block 25 so I cant use my US based SMTP server which doesnt allow changing the port number. Oh yeah, the VBScript (i did it in VBscript because at the time it was the quickest and I needed to send mail!) is setup as a server listening on port 25 on the users PC, it then grabs the email and sends it on to a webpage (therefor bypassing port 25) and that page checks the user info then if valid it sends it on using the hosting companies SMTP server. Also it can send just 1 attachment as I didnt complete it further.

I just want to know why they spend so much money to look at dirt and rocks (wonder if they can see anything at night)

Youre better off building the DVR than using a badged one. For one thing you can build a much cooler PC. The cheaper HPs and Dells are normally so jammed up inside that they can get very hot, and are difficult to upgrade or add cards into. But that HP has a Intel® G45 Express so it should work fine. The onboard video is all you need unless you want DVI output. http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/th/en/sm/WF06a/12454-12454-64287-3328896-3328896-3804427.html click on Specifications BTW you will need a PCI Express (x1) DVR card for that computer. They draw power from the Power supply as well so you might need to upgrade the power supply to one with a PCI-E power lead. Also, a good DVR is never just plug and play, it requires alot of tweaking and setup of the OS and software.

How does remote software reconize my dvr card
rory replied to robkey's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
because no dynamic-DNS service, free or not, is 100%effective. i've had ISPs that force IP changes every 1-2 hours... when DDNS updates can take up to an hour to propagate, DDNS becomes nearly useless. yep, there can be delays also. static is always better, most business accounts will include at least one anyway. for a home use its a different story though, the extra cost is too much, least in this country. Built in DDNS type server software can work well though, designed for the DVR only. So the use signs up for an account using say a name, Rory, as an example. That goes to the database on the DVR software company's website. So every 5 minutes (eg) the server software running on the DVR updates the database and that user's account with the updated IP. Now ... when using the remote software the user just enters their name instead of an IP and it searches the database on the website for their latest IP and then connects to that. To have the browser work it, the user could just log onto the website and enter user and password. too many flaws with browsers though, so I prefer not to use them for that. -
i have some in the field for around 10 years now. Some IR Hallogen Bulbs can only last a year or two, ive changed plenty of those, just the bulbs that is. IR LEDs can last 10 years, or more. The ones I have in the field for say 10 years, quite a few are burned out, but there are still enough left working on the Illuminator, to light up the location.

That would be the Sensormatic?

I would not rely on video motion detection for a burglar alarm system. It is good to save on hard drive space and assist in locating events, for the CCTV system, but I would suggest installing motion detectors, or beams, for the alarm system. Ive used Optex for beams, and others for motions, such as Rokonet.

Adapters to turn analog cams into IP?
rory replied to Tailbone215's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
its expensive, not worth it IMO unless you are adding it to an existing network setup. Especially when the camera could cost as much as ten times less then the video server, and you can build an entire networked DVR for the same cost as the video server. But that axis one looks interesting. I think vivotek is cheaper though? http://www.vivotek.com/products/model.php?video_server=vs7100 -

KT&C have a line of bullets and board cameras with Exview in 420TVL or 600TVL though id go the 420TVL to see more in low light. here are some cams from KT&C with Exview: KPC-S20PEX1, KPC-S20BEX, KPC-EX190SWX, KPC-EX35NV, KPC-EXTW670NHACI. Seems the Exview box cams from Ganz and GE have been discontinued. KT&C also have them in Box cameras, no idea what those are like. Alot of manufacturers stopped making them and went more into IR and other low light technologies, but still IMO Exview BW is one of the best, for the price.

insects will attack anything thats a heat source. I have BW Cameras outside that are covered in spider webs, IR just gives off more heat. Spray them with bug spray every so often, just around it, not on the glass. Ofcourse I live in an area where you can get knocked down from clouds of insects in the summer time, thats how bad they are here, specially as im right on the ocean. as to the camera, not all will pick up 930nm+ but you stand a very good chance by just using BW cameras. BW, if you want low light BW cameras look for low resolution BW Exview, high res is not as sensitive and neither is standard BW. Low res standard BW is around 0.1 lux while low res exview is typically around 0.01 lux (not faceplate, faceplate would typically be around 0.0001+-). If you see a faceplate spec then times it by 200 to get the standard lux level.

Panasonic WV-NP502 images
rory replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
who needs a day time only camera, where are the night shots? Also the real WDR test is when the light is hitting the glass from the other direction .. in other words shining right at the front door. -

Silly thing is, it probably does... at least, the finder utility DOES work with Win2K... but the INSTALLER won't let you install it without XP. How dumb is that? do you need the installer though? maybe just extract the required files, and put together your own installer? if i can help let me know.
