    Best Camera of this type

Ah yes, I remember that thread now. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Your right about the digitally enhanced B/W, is that maybe why he states its not IR sensitive? Going back to that thread from 2007, what camera are you currently using to satisfy this situation? **Edit reading through that thread it looks like I did this same type of research then and even posted a link Man am I getting old and senile or what I also posted for pm's if anyone came across those but I never received any. Hopefully by now someone has a solution Here i am digging up an old thread, but for a good reason. Ive been going over the bullet cameras on the market right now, ofcourse there are millions of them, but im just sticking to KT&C and CNB for now, KT&C being one of the only players still doing BW bullets. I used their 600TVL Exview bullet before and was not happy with it, was not exview type low light, I had a standard bullet that outperformed it. Anyway, after going through the KT&C site, it is this simple, the standard res bullets of 420TVL are 0.0003 faceplate (0.05lux?), while the 600TVL bullets are 0.003 faceplate (0.5lux?). Cant even find this Exview model on the KT&C site, but used the other Exviews and High Res bullets to reach this conclusion. In addition the online stores advertise the above faceplate levels for each camera. It then came to me that Extreme also uses lower res cameras in their BW cameras with IR, and this seems to be a common thing across manufacturer lines. So basically seems if you want to see in lower light, get the 420TVL Exview version. Also, KTC has the KPC-S50NV1 which is a B/W IR camera. http://www.ktnc.co.kr/english/viewtopic.php?t=554 Im going to probably try this out at the night club in a couple areas (pitch dark 24/7) as its pretty inexpensive. Also worth a mention, would like to see where these cameras go, if they are any good: (HQ1 chip had problems with Geovision DVR though, black borders) http://www.ktnc.co.kr/english/viewtopic.php?t=365 http://www.ktnc.co.kr/english/viewtopic.php?t=375 http://www.ktnc.co.kr/english/viewtopic.php?t=582 http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1027 http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1026 http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1025 and CNB is pushing this new CHIP they came out with called monalisa: http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1071 id like to try one first before i start advertising them though, i see some issues with their specs. Monalisa: This new technology provides a sharper, high quality image and enhances the low-light sensitivity. What that means, is that the MONA LISA chipset allows for brighter and better visibility in low-light settings. The BLC (back light compensation) from this chipset dulls out bright light for better visibility during daytime. The DNR (digital noise reduction) efficiently reduces video noise and trailing effect to provide a pure, clear picture.

as far as bullet cameras go, Id prefer something like KT&C and CNB. Some other brands will surprise you with one or two decent bullets, but these 2 guys look like the big players in the Bullet camera area right now, and both are the actual manufacturers. Ofcourse they each will have their own "bad" products as well, thats a given.
  3. Do a search for Extreme CCTV. More expensive then the rest but pretty much guaranteed to work. Also check out CNB Cameras (http://www.cnbusa.com), they are a manufacturer from S Korea that is sold on most US based online stores now. They have a couple cameras that mimick the Extreme CCTV EX82 dual cameras (1xcolor and 1xBW camera in one housing with IR in a seperate part of the camera). Or do a search for a Day Night Exview BOX camera (eg. GE has one) that works up to 1100nm (or at least 950nm) then put that in a housing and install some Extreme CCTV UF500 (or similar) 930+nm IR Lighting, mounted separately from the camera. Or just install a bunch of Optex IR Beams and hook them up to lights, and disregard the IR.

upgrade geovision or go w/ standalone dvr?

as mentioned, most of those holes dont exist, only if software is installed or enabled on the windows PC, which in most cases it is not, and definately is not in a DVR setup. Example: if you were to install certain server software on your mac, and plug it into the internet, one with the client software could also gain access to your Mac and then once access is gained, they can do anything they like. sure there is, you block all internet access (as well as all browser features), except the port required by the DVR software. Only software using that port is the DVR software so unless you physically get on that DVR and replace the DVR software with your own, there is nothing that can be done. they are not all small, some are small, some are huge, ive used many different types. In fact some of the best new standalones are bigger and heavier than the average PC. Ebay cards dont compare to Geovision, or most others. Its not even so much the card, its the software, and the drivers. In fact i would never recommend buying a card from Ebay, in many cases they are pirate cards and they WILL crash your computer due to hacked software. A PC DVR should be not different from a stand alone in that regard once setup properly. A user's incompetence can never do any damage to any of the systems i setup (short of a physical issue like taking the DVR and throwing it out the window!). I think you just used the wrong ones. Been there done that. I didnt even touch a PC DVR until Windows XP SP2 came out, and still only when the software and hardware started to get better.

upgrade geovision or go w/ standalone dvr?

Sounds like you havent used a properly setup Windows computer yet. Windows Security updates dont exist in my world, only time Windows XP ever crashes on me is when I make it crash, and the PC DVR goes the same place a standalone goes. http://secunia.com/advisories/product/22/?task=advisories < yeah, no thanks On that page you will find no less than 30 different unpatched ways to either crash, gain access, or block access to any windows xp machine. Not only are Microsoft not patching these gaping holes, they are also dropping support for service pack 2 summer 2010 -- good luck Also it seems every time I boot into my windows in vmware, it asks to reboot to install yet another security patch - are you simply ignoring these? As for DVR location, I would say it's unrecommended to put a windows DVR behind the ceiling or mounted inside a wall without easy physical access - unlike a quality standalone DVR that can operate for years without any maintenance, you will need physical access to a Windows DVR. I wont go into details on this thread, but a DVR is just not install windows and walk away, it has to be setup properly, secured, tweaked. Default windows will be a problem, default ANY OS will be a problem - please note, ANY computer can be hacked or compromised, windows or not. BTW that list shows mostly additional software that is not installed by default, be it a service or other, or that is disabled by default even, and in most cases much of which is disabled by the user post installed anyway, or customized using Nlite so that it is not ever installed on the system to begin with. The software or service does not exist or is disabled so there is no threat. Additionally, that list also shows exploits/problems from older versions of Windows such as Windows ME. Yes i ignore all security patches after SP2 on systems I install (most of the SP3 updates are just crap anyway), they arent required, they are for people that dont know how to setup Windows properly. Support from Microsoft is not needed. As long as the hardware manufacturers continue to create drivers for XP, that is how long it will survive. Last i heard it was 2014 though, but really it makes no difference. Right now it still blows away Microsoft's latest horrid concoctions, Vista and Windows 7. Ive used Standalones for years myself, the really expensive ones too , and though they can generally withstand a little more abuse, they can still die. Ive seen both in very heavily abused locations, just this week past actually, 3 inches of dust each +-, both the stand alone and the PC were still going strong (amazingly, but obviously needed cleaning). Its all still just hardware, both get hot, both are still electronics and can go bad. As for access to the hardware, you need as much access to the standalone as you need to the PC, so I dont get your point. Bottom line is this, if a PC DVR still seems like PC once installed, then it was not built and installed right. Unfortunately most that install PC DVRs dont know what they are doing in that regard, they just install Windows and walk away. Then again, most using Standalones dont have much of a clue either, hence why they are using a Standalone.
  6. exactly. even with standard lenses (non IR corrected/DN lenses) one can still focus it so it at least stays focus in full IR or full light, if anything it should go out of focus a little only in extremely low light. I've focused for IR for years. Course could still be a camera/lens problem.
  7. your argument is the same as saying why doesnt it work with windows 98/ME.

The cameras are the same as they were back then, still not worth it IMO. They are just cheap cameras with the WZ name on it.
  10. In terms of quality AND performance, best to lowest: Japan S.Korea Taiwan China USA and Canada do make some of their own products as do some companies in Europe (eg. Extreme CCTV), ofcourse many of their components come from another country though. Big brands have manufacturers plants in many countries now.

yes it is the same color exviews we dealt with in the past, its not day night, at least i dont consider it day night, and i dont think it should be sold as such. the chroma is just cut out to fake a BW mode. ir cut filter is fixed so it will never pick up infrared. dont worry i cant remember half of what i wrote on here before

far as I can tell .. and I could be wrong. Its not a True Day Night Camera. Sony Exview bullet cameras started doing this from a few years back, when i was using Provideo Exview color bullet. It use to be a low light color then one day out of the blue their manufacturer changed it, so it was color but switched to a digitally enhanced BW mode. This appeared to be consistent with other Exview cameras though, so seems it was a switch up at Sony. As most color cameras, it has a fixed IR cut filter - hence the greens etc look normal in color mode (even my $50 color bullet has that). That is one way they can cut down on the price, and size. Under low light it then takes out the chroma (kills the color) which produces a BW image. I didnt find the BW mode from the exview chip worth much though, its okay but really not of any use compared to a True Day Night camera with a real BW mode and no IR cut filter on (auto switching). Better overall is a BW only camera though, for night clubs that is what you need. Lets get one thing clear though, it is NOT a BW Exview camera, that would be much better in low light. Also, Exview is 0.01 lux BW Only chip, 0.1 Lux color (normal BW camera is 0.1 Lux) so i would take those specs with a grain of salt. Camera looks interesting though, but I would hardly call it a Day Night, and definitely not a True Day Night, as I had that same argument with provideo way back when. Interesting part is the varifocal lens and it being so thin - that could be good or bad though. Rory disclaimer. I cant speak for provideo current cameras, so dont take my word for it, nor this camera that is mentioned here. this is opinion only.

KT&C is the only one really that you will find making those any more. they have a whole bunch of different types, some good some bad. B/W Exview would be the best for night vision other then that if its Day Night it will be a larger bullet camera. Just goto any distributor that carries KT&C and they should have an up to date list of all those cameras and prices. Rory
  16. hi, perhaps upload it to here: http://www.mediafire.com/ you can sign up for a free account there, 100mb per file, 200mb max (with free account) then assign a custom URL name, eg mine is: http://www.mediafire.com/bahamassecurity
  17. Hi, what DVR system is this from? Were you able to backup the video to your computer and if so what type of format are the video files?
  18. as mentioned, yes. now adays they are easy to get and not that expensive, well worth it.

Has anyone tried Windows 7 with Geovision

I disagree, i have XP machines that boot up within 15 seconds or less, in fact my 630Mhz netbook does it in around 11 seconds, I had one desktop boot in under 8 seconds, so fast we never saw the XP logo. IMO Vista is the worst thing MS ever came out with, bogged down slow systems full of intense graphics. No matter how fast a computer one has, Vista is still a slow OS. Thankfully some PC manufacturers still ship their computers with XP, HP ships some of theirs with XP and Vista so the user can choose. XP support was through 2014 and may go further, however most never need support from MS anyway (you can secure a base XP SP2 without any additional updates required). Only thing one will have to worry about would be a lack of drivers for XP, perhaps 10 years from now. Well thats just my opinion anyway. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/eeepc/eeepcTweaked2.wmv http://www.bahamassecurity.com/software/utilities/boottimer.asp
  20. Extreme CCTV have a few cameras designed for the desert .. that should cover it.
  21. I used tapes before and I wouldnt go back for anything. Sounds like there may be something wrong with that DVR.

What is HQ1? ANd IR CUT FILTER?

Hi, a couple threads to check out: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12468&highlight=cut+filter http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=10919&highlight=hq1 basically without an IR cut filter, colors can be washed out. some newer cameras seem to do a very good job without it, but thats rare. HQ1 is just another chip from Sony. I saw nothing special, except the cameras I used which had it, werent that great (cheap).
  25. my whole life has been a recession .. rite now its a depression though. at least in the US you have welfare for the unemployed, we have nothing here, if you have no job you get no money, and therefore starve to death. There is so much opportunity in the US though, i just dont see how people could NOT be making money. So many things I try to sign up for, where I could be easily making good money on, are only available to those in the US or Canada. Even when I find something that does work with other countries, then comes the payment problems. Sucks.
